Greenland has always been Danish, it's mostly ice north of where the Danes settled, so I see no reason for to leave it blank.
And Alaska, traditionally all of it has been claimed by Russia. When it was bought by America, it really didn't have much settlement, but we bought it within those borders. Also, I believe Russia claimed that her claims(haha, a pun) in Russia extended into Eastern Canada, and into Oregon. She of course, gave up Oregon claims in 1824, or sometime around there.
