Superslug Vs Sid

Is Zululand hitting 100k culture an issue? Or are all the other civs keeping up?

No. For a huge map, they have to reach 160k. Alright, that could still be an issue for sure, but for some reason I guess you meant literally "100,000", when it's 160,000 culture, since it's a huge map.

Yeah, I meant it in the generic sense of victory condition.

Don't they also have to have double the next guy? 160,000 won't be enough with the Inca on their tale.

I got to Communism and coal a lot later than I usually like. Communism had to wait until I had finished Suffrage and ToE. Coal was not even close to my territory, but I got one source a great distance away under some Mongolian rubble.

Now that I'm finally building up a decent army, I'm going to prevent AI wins by simply killing them.

EDIT: I am watching the Inca numbers and making sure the Zulu don't pull too far ahead of them.

1440 AD, the Arabs started a world war that drug everyone in. I was already gearing up to invade them for their oil, coal, and luxuries, but I still needed help from the Zulu and Inca to rid my continent of them permanently.

Unfortunately, I had to do something unthinkable for a cultural game and mobilized for war for a short stretch. The Incan city of Cuzco has passed my 20K city in culture again, but I'm building boats to land forces on their island. The pink/purple/green continent left-center in the minimap is them, China, and the Aztecs. I'll invade the Chinese soon for rubber since we're already at war and have a presence on that continent.

My continent straddles the map edges. I'm purple in the northwest and northeast, the Zulu are brown, and Egypt is yellow. Egypt and Zulu are at war and keeping each other occupied for now.

The Americans have an island to themselves in light blue but are a nonfactor. The Mongols still have a one-city island, but I have bombers in range and I'm building some Marines.

Inca and Iroquois are just way too similar in color! At least you wiped out the pink Arabs, who are indistinguishable from the pink Chinese.

Your city density along the Zulu border is pretty amazing.

Are you going to get the UN?

I'm a big believer in ICS outside of my core, and many border towns are a single tile apart.

Right now, the only two nations with Fission are the Zulu and myself. My UN build is clocking at 14 turns. The Zulu are on track for 19 turns.

I know some parts of the game move slower than others, but spending an entire weekend on just three turns was mentally taxing. My deliberations paid off however.

The Zulu and I have been eating up what's left of Egypt, but the Zulu were moving faster than me. I spent time plotting out a 1-turn settler creep. When it was all said and done, I went right down Cleopatra's throat, took two of her capital cities, and wound up with rubber and uranium that I didn't previously have. Getting my hands on the Smiths wonder was a bonus.

I don't plan on using nukes, but I'm sure as hell going to build some.

The Egyptians have been vanquished. The remaining AI include the Zulu, Inca, Aztecs, China, and America. The Chinese and Americans are nonfactors due to lack of resources, insufficient military, and lagging in tech. Both are still asking me for horses of all things.

The Zulu continue to haunt me. They're involved in a war with the Aztecs. While the Aztecs are on another island, I hope they keep the Zulu occupied for more turns. I'm the only civ not at war with Montezuma, so I don't know how long they'll last. My continent has a few scattered Inca outposts, but it's otherwise just me and Shaka. 90% of my cities are building Modern Armor to support my bombers and artillery, but I don't feel I'm ready for war yet. My capital city is cranking out armies as fast as it can.

The Inca are the other problem. The waters between us minimize their military threat, but they are building SS parts. Their capital city has more overall culture than my 20K city, but mine is producing more per turn and should overtake. I do have half a dozen transports headed to the shortest gap between our landmasses so I can start ferrying troops over. If it comes down to it, I'll plant artillery beside their capital and shell the crap out of it in an ROP violation.

This is why you build ICBMs...... they solve your spaceship problem! I am always amused that the AI isn't aware of an imminent attack. Especially when you name an ICBM after their capital city.

I relied on ICBMs in a previous 20K game and paid for it dearly. The AI fired back and hit my 20K city. Losing all the city improvements and their doubled culture meant that I could no longer hit 20K before 2050ad. I wound up with a diplo win and a bad taste in my mouth.

Mildly surprised that you can still get a diplo win after using nukes. Although I guess if you have alliances the AI might be more "understanding"?

My memory might be fuzzy on who fired first. I'm starting to recall a feeling of shock of the AI firing first, but they don't often do that.

ETA: I went back and found the thread from several years ago. The Aztecs fired first and hit my 20K city twice.

Seems like you should still be hatin' on Montezuma as well!

My Deity 20K game has ~145 turns left to a possible victory, but I'm also mentally exhausted. I don't think I've ever paused one Civ game to play another, but I'm spending some hours on a meaningless warlord map just to let my brain deflate a bit.

Still playing my Warlord "mental health break" game. The game will be nothing remarkable except take an empty slot at the back of the table.

The Aztecs for some reason decided to stab me in the back. I pop-rushed 72 ICBMs in one turn and vaporized them.

Much as I love the high levels of HOF competition, there's still joy in being a ruthless emperor against a hapless low-level AI.
