T_McC02 - The Forbidden Traits (Emp, Cont)

Uhh guys, we may want to start growing our bellies and chanting. It is already worth 23 gold!!

Hmm, I guess I should have been more specific with this point.

3 cities captured. We might make Bez an honorary warmonger yet.

This is a holdiay weekend, so I actually have 3 days in which I can play. YAY!

Raze Madrid!

This war does not end until Izzy is off of our continent (or at least reduced to that isolated desert city). We're barely suffering WW yet and the two wings of our attack force are just about ready to join. (Why do all of my military campaigns look like the Schleiffen plan? ). We don't need to stop fighting: This war is only costing 10% culture (which we would probably be doing anyway) and a couple of cities building military. About the only real cost is not being able to re-configure the tiles of the cities close to the front lines. And to re-iterate: big worker push soon, we need to lay rails and work a lot of new tiles.

You can tell how much Bez likes war: We're building 2 troops, including 1 from a non-Heroic Epic city. Probably worth getting another couple of cities on military to garrison the new cities. And once the Spanish are banished (I rhymed :p ) all of those troops can move to the Japanese front, because Toku has to learn that it is we who should be pleased with him, not the other way around.

Free Religion isn't that useful for us since we can't build non-Jewish Missionaries, but getting out of Theocracy to let our cash-producing religions spread could be quite profitable. Org Religion could be just what we want, since we'll be able to build a couple of Buddhist missionaries to spread it to our core and then let the core spread it everywhere. Free money is good. Then we can decide whether Toku is worth not being in Free Religion.

We can capture two more holy cities, although Izzy hasn't been able to build the Shrines yet. We will score Ankgor Wat in one of her cities, so Priests will be better than Engineers for a while, maybe we can build one of the shrines ourselves.

well well, time to pick up the game pace aight. madrid sure is gone, same is izzy's mainland. i didnt raze madrid as u sudjested, will explain that in the later part of the post.

anywayz, i always give both good news and badnews, this time, i got quite some news .

the war front is going well, perhaps, abit too well, gotta thank toku for that one though, to push me in to a conquer race which made me attacking recklessly.
2289_s.jpg

because of the massive unit of toku that is running in to pillage our future land, i had to keep pushing forward with wounded, low promotion unit and leave very low defence to guard our conquered lands. and so we suffered quite some casualties on the frontline. and so the bad news...

"Before the Deed
General DeWalt, it is time, when the empire needs u, u must capture barcelona at all cost, we are unable to send u more reinforcement, but the mission has to continue, Can u do it? the general didnt say a word, but simply picked up his hat and left the command center
Falling Hero
"report status soldier", "yes general, our artillary managed to break down the walls but the enemy is tough and they are putting up huge resistance inside their city, our casualties are high"... and again, the general didnt say a word, but use his action to prove his worth, after 2 hours of invasion lead by no one else but the general himself, finaly the enemy gave in and their frontline buckled. just when the soldiers are celebrating their victory, bang... :sniper:, the general has fallen......

so, incase u cant be bothered to read my complete nonsense and bad english, lets just say our only named uber UU died. but heej, every war has its price, i lost about 7 units during my turns, include 2 cats suicide on madrid due heavy defence in AI capital as usual.
the results are capturing 5 cities and removed izzy from the main land.

now it is time to talk about our internal affairs:

first i put the growth at icy fish on hold, because we really need another GP for GA now, and we will get one at the end of the next players turn. with about 70% chance to not be a scientist, lets hope the RNG is on our side this time.

i traded away electricity and got us artillary, corporation, and biology, which skyrockted our score and population growth. didnt managed to get RR because huyana got electricity himself before anyone want to trade RR so i didnt want to get in to the corner when huyana trade his electricity to everyone else so i got us those 3 tech instead, some turn later, toku has rr, but dont want to trade with us for artilary, 2 bad. we do get radio with in 2 turns, but we might want to save it to trade for some other tech.

Toku wasted his great engineer and built broadway, good thing i didnt bother to even try, but since we have soo many resources surplus, i could get the lux from him.
2294_s.jpg

as u can see, the bad news is that peter and huyna managed to get rocketry, which means they are already starting on appoloprogram right now.

because of that, i made some decisions, im not sure if everyone else will agree on it, but atleast it is what i think it will be the best for us to make sure we win, and i have to start it right the way.

looking at our empire, to win the space race, what we lack is Shieldpowerhouse, we dont even have a city that is worth building Ironworks yet. so after some consideration, i decided to start working on some specilized super production cities, since they are mostly from izzy, the improvements are still far from finished.

the cities i checked, and think that they would become a shieldpower house are as followed:
2290_s.jpg

Madrid will definately be our most powerful production city. it has 3 mineral resources, 4 hills, and loads of plains. also it has strong population and buildings already, so i think the ironwork should be built here.

2291_s.jpg

Santiago has decent lands and will be a support production city.

2292_s.jpg

i think if others would disagree with me would be with this city, it has very good commerce potential, i know, but that is not what we need once we get izzy's cities up and running. also it can be made in to a super GP farm as well, but i think by the time it grows big enough and built national epic it will already be too late so might as wel use its hills to build mines, its river to get watermills and use its mad amount of food resources to provide food for workshops.

now abit about our relation issues:
incase it gets to the point when we must declare war against the other continent to stop them from completing spaceship, we will be pretty much on our own, as peter roosevelt and huyana has extreemly good relations with each other and also might sign triple mutual protection pact by that time.

so a continental warfare 1 vs 3 seems pretty pointless, in otherword, our only chance is to get scotlandyard running and get over 5 spies on to the other continent to sabotage if necessary.

Our current standing:
we are doing ok, still abit behind on GNP, but i guess once we get all those cottages built in the izzy;s land(thx toku for pillaging our land), we will be on top very quickly.
2293_s.jpg

PS: i forgot to say that i declared peace with izzy, and the greedy woman that she is, wont give us anything in return except an island city that is surrounderd by her culture influence.

but heej, we really need to push growth now cuz the rocketry, and she only has the desert city that got completely pillaged and 2 island cities. i guess toku can have them.

PSS: i already started worker pump with 3 of our cities.

If we got biology, we should produce enough workers just using them to stop overgrowth until improvements can be adjusted. Seafood should be a good candidate for this, no?

What we really need techwise is Industrialization to see where the Aluminum is before we worry about building Apollo, and Assembly Line for factories is urgent as well - hope Radio serves as good trade bait. This would also be a perfect game to bring Al Gore into full effect, as well.

unfortunally the two that is leading in the tech race dont want to trade with us , i tried to send resources to peter as gift to gain more happiness bonus from "you have supplied us resources " but havent notice any improvements yet.

Hmm. Will it be possible to have Peter go after Huyana? This would be an ultimate Win-Win scenario.

the last time i checked, peter roosevelt and huyana are triple friendly with each other, and only pleased with us, so no luck there

I think our only hope along those lines would be a quick Jewish missionary blitz on the civ without the Hindu holy city, plus spies cutting resources to cancel resource trades. The former is probably more trouble than its worth, the latter may be to our great benefit regardless of relations.

Well, that was quicker than expected. :)

Romeo is up. First thing to check on is our civics. We want out of Police State and Theocracy, in with OR and Suffrage(?). We don't get a lot out of Suffrage but there's only a weak argument to be made for Representation.

We now own the Holy Cities of 3 religions, none of which are our state religion. Part of the appeal of OR is that we can turn hammers into gold by pushing Buddhist Missionaries around our cities and Toku's. The other two religions don't have their Shrines built, so unless we come up with a spare Great Prophet they don't need to be spread around much.

MM looks good except for one of the ex-Spanish cities is running a couple of entertainers for no apparent reason. It's not in a border fight.

How about running Pacifism to get some GP's going? If we can get three temples in Iznik, we could generate a prophet or two for our shrines, and I'd like to get two GA's before the game is over. Need to get Suffrage to rush National Epic there too. THis is a lot of trouble, but GP's are worth it, even if we just use them for GA's instead of shrines.

Got it and played some of my turns tonight...

Switched to US and OR on preturn, and its pretty much worker related the rest of it (and some Bud/Jud spreading).

oh... any HC declared war on Izzy

I figure after we do the Infra on our new cities we can switch our civics again to take advantage of some GPs.

incase u wonder some messed up specialist hiring in the southern cities, it is because i declared peace as the very last thing during my turn, so the AI for some reason jumped all the unhappy citizens to artist or random specs.

OK I guess I got it after Woebearer posts his turns.

I would still love to get bombers first and take our continent, and/or take out sevearl cities of Huyana's and Peters.

I am thinking coastal hit and run, ala Bez01 style.

Imo, Civ4 is more sucesptible to guerilla style marine invasions than civ3, and with the lower average city count, they do a whole lot more damage too.

To what end, aside from general mayhem, and with what hammers? Our new lands need time to heal and our old is not particularly well defended, their young men having left home to fight Isabella. We now have more than enough tiles to produce a victory - further war will mean war with all, lest a rival beat us to space.

If it comes to it, intercontinental war would probably be best, with brave Toku again at our side to help swat naval flies.

1800 Preflight - Revolt to Universal Suffrage, and Organized Religion. Do some trades with Toku and FDR that get us +20 gpt for our extra Whale and Cow.

1802 (1) - Come out of anarchy. Set workers about their business. Switch some builds to Bud Missionaries.

1804 (2) - Huya declares war on Isabella.

1806 (3) - Radio comes in..... Yeah I know her life was saved by rock 'n roll Spock. Trade Radio for Railroad and 200g from Toku. Start working on Assembly Line.

1808 (4) - No one will trade Combustion for Radio.

1810 (5) - Spread some Big Belly Buddist (good ol' BBB) love to Ed and Seafood. Start RnR in Border Fight.

1812 (6) - Madrid comes online, and is naturally pissed as hell. Start a Theater there, and rush up a Farm to help feed it.

1814 (7) - HC dials us up and offers Cumbustion and cash for Radio. Tampalona comes up.

1816 (8) - More Infara, More Workers, More Missionaries

1818 (9) - Assembly Line --> Industrialization. We loose RnR, but get cash for our troubles. HC trades us Hit Singles for Bananna. He has extra Aluminun, so we have him to go to if we can't find it in our kingdom. Start working on a lot of factories, our GA should be coming soon.

1820 (10) - Snore.

I haven't moved our army yet, I suggest filling out our towns with decent guards and disbanding our outdated ones.

Turn 1 IBT: Peace with Spain runs out, and Huyana asks us to declare.
I think about it and then do it. Dang nabbit we have some nasty WW.
Turn 1: Spain has 1 city left. I rush a transport, so that hopefully in 2 turns, they can have 0 cities left.
Turn 2: Well dang, if it wasn't for bad luck, we wouldn't have any at all. Pop A Scientist. (Are they like zits?) Anyway, use a good portion of our treasury making our battle tested pults into city eating artillary.
Turn 3: Lose a Jannisarry
Turn 4: Reinforce
Turn 5: Stop the bleeding. Seriously folks, please don't end a war before its time. The time for an end to war is when they lay quivering under our boots.
Some stuff happens.
T_McC%231.jpg

Good news boys and girls, we have aluminum. I start on Plastics to get us to the 3 gorges damn.

Bad news, Huyana builds his Apollo.

I focused on recovering the economy and building science and production buildings. As much as I would love to build some tanks and roll over Toku, that really won't help us much.

I started West point in Border fight, and we have the Eiffel Tower started in Istanbul. That is a broken wonder for a creative civ.

Other than that, I expect to be reamed by Bez for not concentrating our workforce on getting 1 -3 cities up to speed right away. In fact I think I got ~ 0 of our cities worker moves optimized.

I did however build a railnet and fix some obvious gaffes along the way.
