I like the advice. Trying to get you to play the game as you would if you were a general in real life. It makes the game more fun.

Good Job!!

I kind of want to make a warmongering article, but I'm not ready yet :(. Obsolete would be mad at the quality if I posted it with my n00b powerz I currently possess.
Do what you want to do. Critics will always be there to do what they do, critize their own preconcived thoughts on a given topic. Think of them (most not all ) AS the Hollywood scandal papers, rags,in general the ever present press. After awhile they become trite, yet you can still gain knowldge from their articles. That said, remember knowldge is power. Take the critics with a grain of salt, who knows what people will learn from ANY article you post.

I encourage you to post an article. Heck, I post all the time and have no clue what I am doing. There are some very skilled players on this forum, that will give great feedback and then everyone benefits. Remember that there is no ONE right way to do everything. My axe rushes usually take place with macemen/trebs/pikes/longbows.
That Sir. in my very humble is what I personally call (Please take note critics 0 a tactic. Short but sweet. It is not your game plan, just a skillfully thought out plan to gain an end. Thank you I have learned from a short post, which is something alot of arm-chair generals do not think possible without a full blown thesis. Thanks----Bob-

When surrounded by enemies, surrender like a wise man. Live to surrender a another day. Violence isn't the solution for a diplomatic victory. You need your civs to mate and become more. More votes, more victory. Laugh behind your enemies back. Chuckle if you want. Men cant mate if they are dead. Simple evolution.
People are starting to see past the Rex Reeds out there and are comeing up with workable, if not at least tryable tactics, that is where it is at. This being a solid tactic which I have accident wound up in. It does work but very late in the game you do other things with them like give them as gifts. They built your empire, then they become a finical drain with nothing to do.

Here's another pro tip: In war, use your units to attack the enemy. The great matters of the day are settled by blood and iron. It is tactically sound to assail your foes with the most stalwart of your men, especially in overwhelming numbers. If equal in number to the enemy, use the terrain and don't come out in the open. If greater in number than the enemy, seek and destroy his army. War is best won when the enemy's army is totally annihilated. Also, don't forget your supply lines. Try to cut off the enemy's. If possible, live off the land to reduce costs and logistics. A few columns of troops converging on the enemy base is generally a sound manuever. Encirclement is superior. Don't forget the manoeuvre sur les derrières.

I shall now go read Why I am So Wise.
I enjoyed your article . Seems to me you may well be a fan of Sun' Tzu. I do have a ? for you ,in game tactics how does one live off the land-(CIV IV?)

This thread delivers!

Earth-God makes my head explode. I cannot seem to understand what he is saying.

Is it his useless attempt at some pseudo-rethoric? Is it his "hey, I read a smart sentence in a book and I wanna post it but I cannot quite remember it so I try to make up my own smart sentence and fail miserably" tactic? Or is it his cunning subversive tactic of stating the most obvious points (1+1=2 and if his army > your army, you're in trouble)?

Either way,
I am fascinated how out of nothing came a comic relief that just made my day.

1. write nonsensical thread
2. try to add less sense in every subsequent post
3. ???
4. profit!!!

(sorry, couldn't resist)

cheers

I of course agree with NO THING you have just stated. As a citizen of The United States of America, I would defend to my death your right to say it. P.S. Feel free to knock this too! Are there any post written by the english major that people found helpful,if so where , no not to tell you you are a bragert;maybe, just, maybe I can learn. Evev from one whom appears to live a cynical life.

I think most people here have already grasped that tactics are important. That does not however turn stating "tactics are important!" into a useful article. Your initial post also contained nothing that could really be construed as a tactic (barely intelligible comments abount a certain number of soldiers in a squad doesn't translate into anything practical in game).

Your second post also lacked any useful tactics, containing some vague suggestions which seemed to be based on real life rather than the game - and indeed indicate limited knowledge about how the game works. Running away in apprarent confusion might lull a human into a false sense of security, but the AI doesn't really have a sense of anything. Any value in such actions relies on an opponent which can become overconfident, and indeed rationalise the actions of the human player rather than simply responding. The AI may be improving as the series goes on, but it has a long way to go, and still plays nothing like a human.

The problem is that this forum is for articles. A post describing some tactics that actually make sense within the game mechanics would therefore be expected from the title you've chosen. This is about as helpful as if the contents of the strategy articles was a single sentence saying "strategy is important!" followed by some vacuous rhetoric that could have been written by someone who had never played the game.

Yeah, I had a feeling you took an interest in war history from your comments. Whatever their relevance in real life, they don't translate into Civ game mechanics.
You perhaps because of your vast experience, did not think! In your quote [that is what they are called- silly me I could be worng]chose to all by yourself speak for the vast majorty. Then as seems to be the case with you and I the tangent begins where I am suppose to write LOOOOOng babble; for what to please you,NOT! A few people have responded in a civil manner to my posts-(not my thesis)

Please notr edit, quote, multi. I see no ARTICALS ONLY.EarthGod_out!

I generally try to post in a civilized manner, and feel I have expressed my views on this thread as politely as is really possible. I must however admit that I'm finding your response to my post only semi intelligible, which rather hinders responding to it.

As to the comment that I'm claiming to speak for the majority, I'm not. I'm merely highlighting the complete lack of any information which could conceivably be useful to any player of any level of experience in your posts. The other responses in this thread indicate I'm hardly alone in that view. I've never seen a thread manage a 1.00 rating for so long before.

As for the comments about babbling and your "thesis", if I'm understanding what you're saying, no-one is asking you to write a thesis. This thread has been moved out of the articles fourm so it no longer has to be of that calibre. Articles are of course supposed to involve a lot of effort - half a dozen unintelligible lines however barely even merits the discussion forum. The thread unfortunately still lacks any real discussion of tactics, and asking us to supply the tactics is rather strange given you started the thread. A number of posters in this thread have written articles, but it's a lot to demand someone writes an article on a subject of your choice. If you want a tactic, pick an area of the game or better still a problem to fix, and I can come up with some suggestions.

I'm still waiting to see if you can come up with a meaningful tactic though. Not an article, just a simple, intelligible suggestion that is effective, and which is not immediately obvious to all players. A hint - we've all figured out that "attack stuff" works.

Could this be the end for our rambling hero?

Thanks man!! You really made my day!:lol::lol::lol::lol::goodjob:

EarthGod this is Houston; do you copy? over :D:D

Talking about extraterrestrial intelligence.... :lol::lol:

In all seriousness man, attacking everyone in this thread that has spoken against your "artical" (sic) shows that you have absolutely no grasp of tactics whatsoever.
What are you going to prove by attacking everyone instead of trying to justify your post?
On the contrary you are proving that everybody else here is right to make fun of you.;)

I thought this thread might have finally died - looks like I was wrong...

Reminds me of the Sopranos when Silvio keeps doing the Godfather impression: "Just when I thought I was out... It pulls me back in!"

In my latest game as Qin Shi Huang, Shaka was sending Catapults, War Elephants, and Swordsmen against my piddling CG2/CG3 archers and Combat 1 Spearmen. Guess who won, despite having neither the advanced units or the numbers?
War is an art not a sciance.Stuff happens!

Nine posts in a row, someone knows his tactics.
