XIII beat me to it. They take up a lot of bandwidth (especially for moderators who use modems... ). Not only that, it's distracting, and a spammer could put in a not-so-nice picture...

IIRC this site originally had sigs in it but they were removed. (see the oldest posts available in the forums and some people have weird link things in their sigs)

Pics in sigs? Sounds awful to me. Just that we have the possibility doesn't mean we'll have to make use of it. It would make the thread pages much longer, too. If you want a pic, use your avatar slot. (Aaaaargh, I'm not even halfways to 300!)
