Take it to Japanese soil?

Assuming we want to clear off our continent, in a few short years we will have eliminated all local competition or exiled them to far away lands.

The Japanese will still be quite powerful, and may be able to challenge us for supremacy. Should we send our troops over to their land to reduce their power a bit, or go into defensive mode on our continent and trust our superior advance planning and the productivity of our great cities?

DaveShack raises a very, very good point. Indeed, the sheer size of the Japanese quite probably will enable them to keep up with us, due to our limitations on growth. From a practical perspective, we will only have 3 more cities, and there aren't a lot of Babylon sites left.

There's a couple of good sites with an English-founded and a Japanese-founded city next to each other. I think that the advent of Tanks will be a nice opportunity for us to remind the Japanese that Fanatikos is the only super-power in the world. The delay between the removal of the French from our lands and the construction of a Tank army will also be a nice break, allowing us to focus on infrastructure and city development.

Okay, we don't need much of either, but we will be able to get all of our cities up to 12. Build up a nice group of Tanks, Artillery and Infantry, and we're off for a nice little war! With any luck, we'll grab a Military Leader, and can rush the FP over there.

Forbidden Palace over there will make the city productive. We'll need a coastal city as well so that we can get the luxuries back to the mainland and all our people.

Japan is going to be a huge threat. Their size will allow them to out produce us and their research will grow. We need to make the most of our current tech lead to knock them back down to size before they also get tanks. We just can not afford to wait for them to come to us.

Let's mount up and go raise some hell on the Japanese mainland. Can we knock them back a couple of steps? Or must we bow to their growing strength?

I say "Let's go find out!"

One way of taking it to Japanse soil may be through Babylon. We have yet to capture a Babylonian city (I think we'll be able to build the Forbidden Palace then) and they are nicely located on a smallish peninsula with a choke point to the mainland. If we took our Babylonian city, wiping out Babylon in the process, we would be able to build up a large force on the continent and when we attack clear the peninsula and fortify the chokepoint. There are going to be a vast number of Japanese troops coming for us - we are weak to them!

We have 10 turns to Tanks, 16 turns to the Modern Age!

That's assuming we go MT before Flight. We can do Mass Production or MT in 5 turns at 90% with +98gpt, 100% will still give 5 turns.

We may be able to start some tank prebuilds prior to getting the tech, but we are achieving our research rate by building Wealth in our cities, so if we build tanks instead our research will drop.

Do we therefore want to keep enough cities on Wealth to still get flight in 6 turns to enter the next age (and get our free tech) before we turn our cities fully to tank production for the Japanese invasion?

We should be able to get about 2000 extra gold (80% plus scientists plus growing income will get each in 5) if we research those two in 10 turns, so losing about 1000 gold while researching flight in 6 wouldn't be too bad. If we research motorized transportation in 4 turns (by the time mass production finishes, 100% should accomplish that), we'd only gain about 1000 extra gold for the two, though.

For a nice challenge, let Japan grow for a bit. Then go on the attack.

For another nice challenge, declare war on everyone left once we are ready for Japan. Playing "watch the birdie" with one civ at a time is the main reason I have lost interest in this game.

If you don't take this advice, then I will see you in the BTN victory thread in a matter of weeks.

Japan is about the only Civ left, they have the entire other continent (and the French island) and at the last look we were weak to them. The others (only Persia has more than a couple of cities) may have to be declared on soon to keep our continent clear anyway.

Sounds good. Although it may also be interesting to see if we can outbuild a powerful nation to become the first civ into space.

An interesting idea, DZ.

We've also got some options to take two cities next to each other, build the FP in one and see if they can hold off a Japanese assault. We've got the Wall of Fear setup, so any landing will require Marines to be successful. Give them a target on their island, and see how they react.

Meanwhile, our core cities split between building troops, wealth, and eventually spaceship parts. We certainly can't win via diplomacy as we've thoroughly pissed everyone else off by razing a few (dozen) cities ...

That little? ;)

We are up electricity plus the corporation on Japan. We don't necessarily have to invade them to launch a ship into space. Although, I like the idea of a 5BC conquest victory. Perhaps this can be the first demogame to use nukes? We'd go out in a bang...
