Tales from the Ether (pre-NES)

Are hybrid type crafts allowed? (Ones that are both Atmospheric travel vessels and ether ships?)

His hopes that she would forget her anarchist beliefs were for naught as she immediately fell in with the various Russian radical emigre socialist and anarchist circles in Switzerland and became particularly influenced by the works of the noted anarchist Mikhail Bakunin.

Have you ever read the Hostile Takeover trilogy? It's set on a (corporate run) Anarchist planet named Bakunin. It's hardly a rosy eyed utopia, but it's an interesting series, and your mention of Bakunin reminded me of it.

Glad you're feeling so creative, I hope it helps you get done any writing you need to do. :D

Thomas: Almost all ether flyers are also atmospheric travel vessels. Ether flyers are basically the finest ships, and aerial gunboats are typically lighter crafts (with some exceptions). In the ether flyer rules, you will see a section dedicated to atmospheric travel for your ether flyer. It is almost absolutely necessary for your ether flyer to have a separate atmospheric power source and propellers, in addition to your ether-centered solar boiler and your ether propeller. Otherwise, you won't get anywhere!

I'm interested in playing an american immigrant. Would you mind if I was Nikola Tesla? It sounds like a fun game! He feels extremely overshadowed by the enormous success of Thomas Edison and is determined to fund his experiments through any means necessary.

I think I just wet myself with excitement. a STEAMPUNK NEVER ENDING STORY!!! Oh happy days! You have only plucked my favourite setting out of the ether! :w00t:

Sadly, it is 1.30am ish. So I really need to sleep. I will fit into anywhere needed.. but British or Russian preference I think..
Were you around when I was running SteamNES?

I'm torn between which nationality I'd like my character to have, British or Dutch. To be honest, Venus is where my character's focus would most likely be, would that be unreasonable for a national whose country's focus is on Mars?

Telsa was not American.. if anything I should play him as a "Serb/Russian" dude.

I think in this TL he would already be living in space/on another planet.

Sorry, folks. Tesla is off limits. He is an NPC and is much smarter than most of your characters at this point. :D He will invent some stuff later on that will be useful.

Lord Iggy, Omega took the only Dutch slot I believe... and we really need more British players. Britain does not have a focus on Mars, by the way. While their largest colony is on Mars, they also have a sizable colony on Venus. They are trying to put their foot wherever they think it belongs. A British player adventuring on Venus would be most interesting (or several, for that matter... wherever the ether takes you!). And besides, even though it is your nationality, that doesn't mean you have to strictly adhere to that nation. Players have a large amount of independence from their nations. They are basically being sponsored, like a grant, to find whatever riches and new info they can.

And your SteamNES looks really cool! I hope I can live up to it. ;) Though I guess it is much different from this in many ways.

Question: Does everyone know that this is primarily a story game? So those simple stats are used, but I am hoping we can get some good story telling into this!

More German players might be nice! I guess I can write for a German party if there aren't more players to join up.

It's looking like it's going to be an awesome campaign!!

I'll declare my character British, and will have a background reasonably shortly.

No I haven't and I imagine Bakunin would roll in his grave if he heard, being a collectivist anarchist. These so called "anarcho-capitalists" are really some sort of grotesque abomination. You cannot be an anarchist and a capitalist. How can you be so schizophrenic as to reject heirarchy in political and social life from the government yet at the same time accept the equally oppressive heirarchy from an economic actor, your employer? They simply haven't made the mental leap from realizing democracy in society to realizing democracy in the economy.

I don't know if we are thinking of the same thing, but I think I agree. What I find a lot these days is "anarchist magazines" or "anarchist styles" - which is just making the idea of being an anarchist into a trend or something.

Can I have Rosa Luxembourg who is currently 18 and studying in Zurich? Or the now 19 year old Lenin who's in either Kazan or St. Petersburg?

Yes - that is perfectly acceptable because she was not an inventor. Tesla is an important NPC character for our purposes, which is why I don't want any one playing him.
