Welcome to civfanatics choleric!

It's really up to tao but I see no reason for him not to include you.

why thank you very much I have actually been visting the site daily for a good year and a half and i used to be registered but i forgot all my info and i got a new email so i just started anew. I thought it would be a good opportunity to elevate my game if allowed.

Yes it is Rome.

I'm happy to see that we have enough people interested to get this started. I will give us a kick-off once I return from work this evening. To give the (for now) less experienced players more guidance, I suggest we play 10 turns each, with an in-between break after 4-6 turns to discuss what happend and what should happen.

And since I currently also practice my war-mongering skills for the gotm, conquest or domination is fine with me.

And an essential reading (for those not familiar with this concept) the war academy article on settler factories.

Is this going to be emperor level, as the title suggests, or regent/monarch per your initial post tao?

I'm not a warmonger by any means, reaching victories on emperor through space race most often, so a warring game would be a good trainer for me. I just love building those temples & libraries, can't resist. :) But, I now know resistence is futile! :D

I'm interested in learning how the other civs start in relation to Rome and the landmass.

This is emperor for regent/monarch players.

And we will not build a lot of temples. :)

Q1: Just for the record, what are the game specs we are playing with (map size, VC, etc) and along with that, what Exploits are allowed?

Q2: More general, if both Domination and Conquest Victories are turned on, how can we have a Conquest victory without a Domination victory?

Vanilla Civ III (Windows and/or Macintosh). We play the Romans. The world is standard size continents. All victory conditions are on. Difficulty is emperor. All other information unknown.

We will observe the GOTM Permitted and Prohibited Exploits and Utilities.

Target victory condition is conquest.

Provisional player roster is:
BeefBayford (up first)
CommandoBob
Own (if you want to participate)
Inkoate
choleric
Formula51
tao
Please post, if you are unhappy with this.

I would like to have a 48 hours "got it", 2 times 48 hours playing 10 turns (split about 2 times 5 turns) each player. If you can't make it, either ask for a swap, skip, or extension.

Keep a log to post turns report after you played! The very end of the 2nd log should give the updated player sequence.

Questions to discuss before the start are
  1. What can we learn from the initial save?
  2. What will be our build order and why?
  3. What will be the initial moves and why?
  4. What will be our research strategy?

And of course the attached save.

Domination VC is based on both your population and territory, you need to have 66% of both. So you could wipe out everyone else without owning 66% of the territory to trigger a conquest VC.

A 48 hours "got-it" window makes sense because of time zone issues. I am in GMT +6, BeefBayford is GMT +1, you are located in Germany, and are GMT -(some number).

I do not understand exactly what you mean by "2 times 48 hours playing 10 turns(split about 2 times 5 turns)". I understand it to mean "play the first 5 turns in 48 hours and play the second 5 turns in the next 48 hours". Is this what you mean?

Do we discuss things before we each play our initial ten turns? Or should we play first and then discuss?

I was wondering the meaning of that particular sentence as well. Just thought I didn't know the lingo well enough. :)

I'm east coast US, so GMT -5 (or is it -6 right now? stupid DST, I can never remember). BTW - CommandoBob, if you're actually in Texas, I think you're GMT-, not GMT+.

 Oops!

It takes real talent to be that wrong!
:rotfl:

First moves?

I think settler 1S, and worker road then irrigate wines, giving +3 fpt.

If COM's free tech is pottery, I believe we should build a granary.

Got it, will play tomorrow (it's 11pm here currently).
I propose settling 1S and Irrigating first before building a road. Do I need to D/L patch 1.29? I'm assuming so, but i'll wait for a response and do so in the morning.

Many question were already answered.

CommandoBob gave the correct clarification on my timing preference.

Pottery full speed sounds good.

Settler S sounds good.

Your game needs to be pathced to 1.29.

But
  • What more can we learn from the save?
  • Which tiles do we work? (Of course we don't use the governor)
  • Do we irrigate or road first?
