tao_1 vanilla emperor training/succession game

lurker's comment: My bad Inkoate. I didn't realize that were only PC based. Definitely DL the mood badges. They will help avoid unnecessary civil disorder.

Oh, I'm sure the programs load vanilla save files just peachy, but they're PC programs, they won't work on a macintosh.

Oh, no worries, Whomp, there are PC players in this succession game too, who I'm sure can use the advice. Just lamenting the lack of a similar macintosh tool. :)

@Inkoate: Do you have access to a PC at all? I have an old freebie Pentium that was recovered from a dumpster (a skip in English). I put an ethernet card in it and connected it to my Mac, and downloaded CivAssist2 and CRpMapStat to it. I shared my Mac's files using OS X Windows file sharing, and bingo, my PeeCee monitors my Mac game autosaves.

I usually run two screens on my Mac, but when I'm playing Civ3 one of them is blacked out by the game software, so I hook that one up to the PC instead, and it gives me status on my game at each inter-turn. Very cheap, very neat :D

Seems so. I suggest sending the warrior S to explore the FP, then onto find contacts. I also think we should build another warrior to explore in a circular pattern out from our cap city.

lurker's comment: Tao is running a succession game? Careful guys, he's mean. :mischief: *waves at SGOTM teammates*

Lurkers are welcome.

I use CivAssist II on my macintosh with Virtual PC. It works sort of o.k., but it needs to be "asked", no automatic pop-ups.

There is a Java version of MapStat available which works fine on MacOS X. However since it gives information about "the world", it should only be used once you know about 80% of the map.

@Renata: Do you call me a grumpy old man? ;)

It's linked in my sig - see JMapStat .. 'cos I modded it and re-released it to cope with the extra civs in GOTMs.

6) 3750BC
Rome; Warrior->Warrior. Warrior heads south.
IBT:
A barbar appears on the tile E of the worker! D'oh!
7) 3700BC
Wake worker and move him into Rome, then move the warrior in.
8) 3650BC
Warrior kills barb and is unscathed. Worker returns to grapes.
9) 3600BC
Restart road on Wines, warrior heading south.
10) 3550BC
Warrior onto the mountain, spots a wheat and fish :)

Here's the latest pic of the action:

...and here's the SAVE.

Ooo, I suggest that we put a settler 1S of the wheat, lots of bonus food, plus some shields from the BG and mountains.

We had a fine first set of turns. Good starting position, successful defense against barbarian.

The questions now are: What is our intended build sequence? Can we risk to put our worker for 17 turns on the game tile without protection against barbarians?

As this is vanilla civ, RCP is the rule to follow.

The tile 1S of the wheat looks good, until we find a better one.

To give the (for now) less experienced players more guidance, I suggest we play 10 turns each, with an in-between break after 4-6 turns to discuss what happend and what should happen.

Since I am a less experienced player I was expecting to post turns based on the orginial save and discuss those turns.

Is this still the plan?

@CommandoBob: My understanding is that you may post plans on what you want to do with the 3550BC save before you continue with the game.

But please feel free to ask any question about the first 10 turns or about your replay of it. As long as you don't "spoil" the game, e.g. by exploring into a different direction!

Don't we move the warrior south along the mountains? I honestly do not know what to build after that warrior is done, I would think a settler but Im guessing I am wrong.
