Team Bede Gets to Know Each Other

Bede said:
In short, keep expanding if there is room, build the military and some more workers, and get us ready for the Spanish inquisition.

Where are we going to build the comfy chair?

I agree with Bede and Ghostwind. Especially the point about Washington. No markets or temples necessary there. Just settlers, all the time. There is lots of fine swampland to claim and we want to fill out toward our horsy city if for no other reason than to connect our horses faster. Fast troops are our friend. Any thoughts to settling cities closer to each other as we expand south? Granted the land is poor, but I'm figuring our productive cities are close to Washington and will also be in Izzy's lands. The jungle cities can produce workers to chop and clear. They will serve a double role as a buffer between us and the other civs, so its important to seal off the sourthern border. Maybe build out at Houston and back fill.

I like comfy chairs :mischief: .

Most of what you said sounds good to me, but i'm going to have to break my habit of OCP. In fact, that's one of the reasons i decided to play a SGOTM.

Hey guys, I've got the save, but something came up, and I haven't had time to take my turns yet. I will have them done and posted by tomorrow afternoon, if that's too late, let me know, I don't mind being skipped.

residue

That's cool. Tomorrow's fine. We don't need to break any speed records here.

Well, not a very productive turnset, and at least one major mistake. I apologize ahead of time guys.

#1 950 BC nothin

#2 925 BC Our people love us so much they volunteered to add on to our palace!! Moved new worker from Orlando to SW to work the jungle and bring in some bananas for the city. Moved warrior north of orlando north to keep an eye on barb activity in area. Clearing wetlands in seattle. Our western scout is exploring more of the Korean territory

#3 900 BC NY built sword, switched to Marketplace, almost all of other cities producing workers or swordsmen. We have currency, now researching Construction. NY made Sword, sent to reinforce Philly. Everybody else seems to be pretty poor, just to see what I could get I offered Korea, the Republic, they offered 50g, but I didn't take it, I wasn't sure it was a good deal. Scouting of Spanish territory continues Sending a settler down near houston, current position is near residueville

#4 875 BC WA produces settler, sending SW towards houston. Backed off on lux, now 10%, and since we were losing 20gpt, i backed science down to 40%, Construction due in 15 turns. Switched Residueville and Miama from Swords to Workers, man we've got a lot of jungle and marshy areas. Reinforced Houston with Southern warrior. The people of NY, got a littly pissy, I gave them some entertainment, will have to keep an eye on that.

#5 850 Nothing of merit to speak of, did some micromanaging to get Seattle producing a Sword 1 turn faster, WOOT!

#6 825 BC Settler corp from NY helping out in Philly mining in the desert. Residueville produced worker, sending him to build road down to San Fran

Ok, I made a stupid mistake, I was sending one of our settlers down toward houston, and walked him right past a Barb camp that I totally didn't see to the SW of Residueville. Needless to say, they killed him dead. My apologies, need to pay more attention to surroundings

#7 800 BC Indians are building the Oracle, Houston building worker. Another WA settler due in one Barbs are scouting West of RV

#8 775 BC .......

#9 750 BC Barb warrior threatening workers near Orlando, must keep watch. Moved Orlando worker into city due to barbs. One settler heading south towards cows, or wheat in Houston. There is another settler in Residueville, he was awaiting military escort, which he now has. Was my intention to send settler and swordsmen down to the two wheats SW of Houston, and the other settler near the cows.

Notes: Not much trading, actually none at all, nobody has any money. I think our financial situation could be better as well, we're currently down 13gpt with 68g in the bank. Construction is due in 8. Really sorry about the loss of that one settler, hope it doesn't cost us the wheat down south. Our scout from Korean territory has returned and was my intention to send him north of Buffalo to explore new territory. Gang of workers has built up the land around Philly pretty well, they can prolly move on to somewhere else.

Now, I'm a little confused on granaries. I usually build them as early as I can in my own games, but that doesn't seem to be what the more experienced players do, and it's not what we're doing either. Could you guys educate me on the subject?

I'll comment later when I have a bit more time, but is that an unescorted settler down south? And after we already lost one settler... Losing one the first time is a mistake, but if we lost a second one... :nono:

God is in the details, so turn animations on.

Got it. Will post commentary later....

It's gotten real quiet around here.....

It's time to re-orient a little.

Filled out the SW jungle and have one settler heading to the last open spot. Washington is building a barracks as we need to get the population up to at least 6 for the worker support and could use the troops if we are going to take on Spain.

Built some courts and started some libraries.

Pulled the workers back into the center to get some more productivity there after roading the furs for the luxury help.

Traded our way into the Middle Ages. Got cash for what we knew and kept the research budget as high as possible while brokering out what was learned. There was enough cash out there to fund the deficit for one learned tech and enopugh leverage in what we already knew to buy the others we were missing for the Middle Ages.

We have to look out for the age change uprising which is coming from the south at San Francisco. If it looks overwhelming and it could be, spend all the cash in the treasury on rushing buildings or short rushing troops and then pull the defenders out of San Fran. Let them pillage the town. They will take what cash we have left, and maybe a population point but won't really harm anything down there.

Seattle is a really good place to practice short rushing troops once it gorws to five. It should then be at 7spt. Let the town accumulate the first seven, then change to a worker and cash rush, then change back to a sword for three turns. It will get the swordsman finished one turn sooner and minmize overruns while using up a small amount of cash.

Once Washington gets its barracks it can take over the sword building while New York builds the Forbidden Palace.

We need twelve swordsmen in position to take on the Spanish at Seville and Toledo if that is the way we want to go.

Shift the bulk of the worker force to the SW to get those towns connected, especially the horses. Then bring them back to clear the jungles. Afraid I boobed the placement of Detroit by dropping it on the only open grassland down there so it will be slow to grow. The most efficient way to clear jungles is to road them first, then add workers to the gang as the road finishes. Sending one worker to clear jungle just takes too long.

Roster check:

SpikeIt - get ready for war?
azzaman333 - held the course
Ghostwind - got us out of Despotism
residuetiger - up for another round
Bede - planted some more towns and got us into the Middle Ages.

Hmmm. Not sure what happened. I thought I claimed the game earlier today. Even commented on short rushing, which I haven't done previously. The work day must have been busy, I probably killed my browser session toggling between work items. Anyhow I got it. I probably won't finish this until tomorrow or Sunday though. I'm looking forward to getting our army in line. :hammer:

Looking for that settler Bede promised. Ah. There it is - at Detroit. Okay, irrigate at NY, short rush at Seattle, build swords, etc, etc.

Um Research is off right now. On purpose? I'm assuming so, so we can build treasury for sword rushes. Plus with Republic we can wait on a 2fer. At least that's how I think the logic is going.

IBT
Right. What were we saying about barbs? 24 horses appear near San Fran. 11 more next to Miami.

[1] 530BC
At Miami, I pull the warrior to defend the workers. I can't rush any of those buildings yet as we don't have enough gold. Since Miami will get sacked, I decide to see if I can get the money to at least rush the rax in Washington. I send Construction to the Mayans for 54 gold, bankrupting them. Everyone already has it. 112 gold into a rax in DC. At Orlando, I cut 9 turns off the harbor build by rushing a sword for the remainder of our treasury. We're broke!

IBT
The Anasazis pillage Miami, disrupting the library research. Maybe that wandering Mayan warrior will pitch in.
Oh this is brutal. There are even more Anasazis. They kill 3 pop and end disrupt research further. Same story in San Fran with the blasted Chehaliss. Geesh. Everytime a worker starts that darn harbor, another barb horse kills the effort.

Washington starts on swords. NY starts the Forbidden Palace.

[2] 510BC
All that pillaging sure rid us of a number of barbs. I decide to let Miami and San Fran sit empty for now, but I'm eyeing that Mayan warrior. There is an Iroquois settler pair marching through as well. I look for how I can burn 53 gold.
Spend a chunk speeding up the harbor in Orlando. Use all but 1 to speed up Philly harbor.

IBT
In an incredibly weedy move on my part, I moved the two swords from Seattle to deter Barb movement leaving Seattle empty. That was extremely foolish as the barbs can sack it repeatedly. Um, oops. Net result. Seattle is size one! Barb threat is gone. Well that kind of blows.

[3] 490BC
Since I threw off our sword builds, I decide to delay our Forbidden Palace build for a few turns to build a sword or two more.

[4] 470BC
I use money to speed up sword in Seattle.

IBT
Wash - sword-> sword.
NY sword->sword

[5] 450BC
nada

IBT
Residuevill courthouse -> sword

[6] 430BC
In an interesting quirk of geography, Baltimore if founded as planned west of Houston.

IBT
Spain completes the Pyramids in Madrid.
Mayans complete Oracle in Chitzen Itza

[7] 410BC
Nothing of interest.

[8] 390BC
The Mayans know Republic. I'm figuring Iroquois are heading down south of San Fran. Since I can't really short rush swords at this point, I decide to turn research on for a bit. I should have done this sooner. We start on Feudalism.

IBT
Seattle completes a sword and starts another

[9] 370BC
I re-emphasize growth in Seattle. We need to get its size back up.

IBT
Philly harbor->Market

[10] 350BC
Korea knows Mono now. Only Spain and Iroquois lack knowledge of Republic.
Once the current sword is build in Washington next turn, re-allocate to make 15 shields. It will slow growth by a turn, but swords will build in two.
Almost all of our cities are connected. The jungle is starting to be cleared. I really screwed up at Seattle which set us back a lot.

Oh yeah. We need to switch NY to our Forbidden Palace build soon. I switched off it early due to my errors.

Gotta love those barbarians. :D
