Tech quotes & Pedia Entries

Just to pick a small hole in the text provided for "convention center", in British English, the word "centre" is always spelt "centre", so the alleged examples with US spellings may be technically correct but are mispelt.

I noticed that 2.8 has vincentz mod's, which all lack civilopedia entries. It would be nice if someone could add the TXT KEY references in the XML, and create some entries for him...

In the XML some at least are just pointing to the great general pedia entries. I will look at them and se what I can come up with. Unless Vincentz wants to do it ;)

I have done the STRATEGY and PEDIA text entries for Vintcentz Warlords units. I recycled Vincentz documentation about the units as the PEDIA, so they all have the same pedia text. I changed file Warlord_CIV4UnitInfos.xml and added file Warlord_CIV4GameText.xml, both are in the attached compressed file.

I could give few other examples: Theater / Theatre, Aluminum / Aluminium and there's probably many others similar cases. I've usually used US version of the word. Note that I don't natively speak English.

Seeing as you're Finnish, I would imagine that that is indeed your native tongue :)

I was just making the point that if you're specifically referring to a word in British English, you probably ought to use the British English spelling. The same would probably go for American English, but that's not usually a problem in the heavily Americanised Internet.

How does that even sound right?
Remember, American English is English English before one of the kings thought it would be cool to change it up. That's why Center looks like it's spelled and Centre doesn't.
(assuming my memory is correct, I haven't had caffeine yet.)

I think your memory is correct as that is how I remember it.

And American English was British English before Webster decided to start randomly changing the spellings of hundreds of words :)

Besides which, "centre" looks like it's spelt correctly because I'm British, not American :) A bit of cunning detective work involving my displayed location would tell you that!

I had not seen anyone put any quote up for Representative Democracy, so unless someone beat me to it, I have two offerings

"The essence of democracy is its assurance that every human being should so respect himself and should be so respected in his own personality that he should have opportunity equal to that of every other human being to show what he was meant to become."

-Anna Garlin Spencer

If liberty and equality, as is thought by some, are chiefly to be found in democracy, they will be best attained when all persons alike share in the government to the utmost.

-Aristotle

At one point I will start making pedias. But the last month has been soooo busy, opening up my bar. I'm dead tired, as the living quarters in the bar was WAY below my luxurious standard, the working hours are WAY too long and the alcohol consumption is not suited for any Civ4 playing/modding. On top of that I'm still doing a bit of scuba diving (mostly to reqruit customers to the bar ;)) and my girlfriend just had a severe case of dengue fever (The doctors were amazed that she could walk around as her blood count was around 24.000 wereas the normal would be 150.000-400.000. But my biggest issue has to be the fact that I left the High Society Hills of Sairee and moved to Monkey Town Maehaad, where our neighbourgs spank their kids with blue plastic pipes, throw glass bottles after eachother when argueing and drive around tuned (and very loud) motorbikes. Monkeys.....

ahhh. always helps to whine a bit ;)

Anyway back to Civ.... Hopefully I'll join the modding train again, but as I have dial up cell phone, the 2.8beta is just too big for me to download. When 2.8lite comes out, I'll be back modding ;)

I still like both
"I question any government that holds the opinion of the local village idiot with the same merit as the opinion of Aristotle." -Author Unknown
"Democracy is the worst system of government, except for all of the others that have been tried." - Winston Churchill

Churchill's always good for half a dozen quotes :D

Caste System

“Call a truce, then to our labors - let us feast with friends and neighbors And be merry as the custom of our caste; For if "faint and forced the laughter," and if sadness follow after, We are richer by one mocking Christmas past” - Rudyard Kipling

Siege Warfare
"Fixed fortifications are monuments to the stupidity of man." - General George S. Patton
"In Siege Warfare, as in the open field, it is the gun which plays the chief part; it has effected a complete revolution... It is with Artillery that war is made." - Napoleon after the Battle of Loebau

defense - defence :)

I remember my first visit to US. My American colleagues made fun of me, when I used the word "trousers", as I was taught in my Polish school. It appeared that American wore pants ;)

Well the IUPAC name for that element is now Aluminium. They also plumped for Sulfur, but you can't win everything :P
