I work in computer security tech support, if you think the support people are stupid, you should see some of the people I deal with.
+One didn't know what "edit" meant
+many do not know how to copy and paste
+many have never heard of an address bar, and have used a yahoo search bar as thier only means of internet navigation
+When I says double click, at least three times a day I get, "left click or right click"..... trying to explain how to drag is a nightmare
In all actuality, it is amazing how personal computers are that any tech support can work at all over the phone, having to listen and understand what people mean when they say things:
+reboot to many means reformat
+homepage means desktop, and visa versa
Your own computer is easy to mess with, and most users assume we should know how they have everything set up.... don't get me wrong, I love my job because I learn so much about what people are using and doing, and knowledge in this industry is power.
I'd also like to add, where I work, we solve almost all problems... and get sent people from stupid/lazy techs working at most major companies, even though 35% - 50% of the time, the issuses are not related to our program or computer security at all. it's liek a giant game of pass-off until we finally solve the customers problem. Comcast, AOL and SBCGlobal/Yahoo tech support are the largest offenders.
I have learned to despise AOL tech support, they got a bunch of know-nothing monkeys on the phone it seems, with a program that interferes with just about everything, is near impossible to remove easily, and has tech support it seems trained to blame everyone else.... and simply get the customer off the phone and passed off to someone else...
