Don't I know it, I've solved the problem e.g that they haven't activated the line and I don't care what their records say. But, getting them to admitt this...oh the many tests they do and every time you call back you get the same "steps" to go through...how very Kafka.

In the end I lost it with some fool in Bombay and soon the problem was sorted. Apologies to all Indians but you are at customer support, you are over-polite, smarmy sons-of- who don't know anything about computers.

Also, these guys are obsessed with drivers and if you've plugged things in correctly. I've been using PCs since I was aged 4 for more hours than I care to recount trust me to follow your installation guide for morons!

I know what that's like. They must hire the most incompotent people to wotk in tech support.

I work in computer security tech support, if you think the support people are stupid, you should see some of the people I deal with.

+One didn't know what "edit" meant

+many do not know how to copy and paste

+many have never heard of an address bar, and have used a yahoo search bar as thier only means of internet navigation

+When I says double click, at least three times a day I get, "left click or right click"..... trying to explain how to drag is a nightmare

In all actuality, it is amazing how personal computers are that any tech support can work at all over the phone, having to listen and understand what people mean when they say things:

+reboot to many means reformat

+homepage means desktop, and visa versa

Your own computer is easy to mess with, and most users assume we should know how they have everything set up.... don't get me wrong, I love my job because I learn so much about what people are using and doing, and knowledge in this industry is power.

I'd also like to add, where I work, we solve almost all problems... and get sent people from stupid/lazy techs working at most major companies, even though 35% - 50% of the time, the issuses are not related to our program or computer security at all. it's liek a giant game of pass-off until we finally solve the customers problem. Comcast, AOL and SBCGlobal/Yahoo tech support are the largest offenders.

I have learned to despise AOL tech support, they got a bunch of know-nothing monkeys on the phone it seems, with a program that interferes with just about everything, is near impossible to remove easily, and has tech support it seems trained to blame everyone else.... and simply get the customer off the phone and passed off to someone else...

My father once called them and spoke with them for 6 hours:

They once tried to go online while he was talking with them

THey told him to reinstall AOL 10 times even through it didn't work the first time.

The problem was my father had accidently told the firewall prompt not to allow AOL acess to the internet.

AOL in far more trouble then it's worth/

copied right from the thing i thought it was funny

Customer: "When my computer boots up, all I get is a black screen that says, 'boot2/'."
Tech Support: "What operating system are you using?"
Customer: "I'm using Windows 98 and NT 4.0."
Tech Support: "Ok, I'm the Mac tech. The Windows tech is gone, but I can try to help you."
Customer: "Ok, what should I do? I've reformatted the hard drive and have fresh installs of both operating systems."
Tech Support: "Sir, have you put any cheese or mustard in your a drive?"
Customer: "What? Did you just ask me if I put cheese or mustard in my floppy drive?"
Tech Support: "Yeah, we've had that happen a lot lately."
Customer: (staring blankly at roommate, who was laughing uncontrollably on the floor) "I think I'll wait for the PC tech to get back. Thanks for the help." (click)
