Tech Trading mod

I wonder who the genius was at Fireaxis who decided to do away with it in the first place.

Because it was by far the most powerful tool for the human player to abuse the AI. The problem is the same with civ5 but under another mechanic(RAs).

Best world is giving a % raise of science between civs from deals. Now we talk for a real balanced game.

Civ4 is not different than Civ5. It's all about abusing the AI. What makes Civ4 a bit more interesting than Civ5 for singleplayer is the AI can manage wars more properly. But it can be overcome by his simplistic diplo system easily abused by the human.

These both games suffer from a lot of flaws. This game can be way more balanced if they can combine strenghs from these 2 games in 1 super nice game!(MUPT, equal trades, complex diplo, etc).

I'm tempted to check some mods after playing some months of vanilla civ. I wonder if GOTM and HoF will accept them someday.

I'll heartily endorse the Vanilla Enhanced Mod. Thal's mod addresses issues both large and small with the result that I at least was left wondering why Firaxis hasn't simply adopted it into the game. It is, to my mind, that good.

Until they make the AI smarter that is what it will always be. The AI is given many unfair advantages and the player must abuse its stupidity to overcome this.

That seems to be the aspect of Civ4 most demanded in Civ5. Civ4 players all hate on Civ5 diplo and want to be able to control the AI through religion or whatever (I never played Civ4).

The difference between tech trading in civ 4 and research agreements in civ 5 is that the AI allways signs then even if they are mad ad you So there is no reason to stay peacefull...

They olso don't vote for you in the UN There is olso no possible way to get positive relationships with the leaders so why bother just abuse them!!!!

In civ 4 to abuse them you have to conduct diplomacy proparly so you didn't pissed everyone off

To answer the queston = Vanlle enchanched mod changes the research agreement this how it works :

Research Agreements: 3% of the combined gross of both players adds to your science rate.
Declaration of Friendship: Increases income from Research Agreements and Mutual Open Borders with this leader by +50%.

So basicly the one who is farther behind gets more the one who is beter gets less olso the one who is warmongering will not get more science then someone who is peacefull.

Some AI don't sign decleration of friendhsips with warmongers

That is not really true as you have reason to stay peaceful upon signing a RA. With the old system you can be friendly and trade techs 1 turn and declare war the next while gaining the benifit but with the current system to gain the benifit you need to stay friendly or you can lose your invested gold.

It could also be said that it encourages peaceful diplomacy more than the old system because if an AI dislikes you and won't trade techs you may as well treat them badly as you have no potential bonus by being friendly. If an AI will sign a RA with you while they hate you then you have a reason to be nice to them and work at making relations better, even if it is simply to prevent them from DoWing you before the RA runs its course.

I always thought tech trading benefited the AI civs more than the human player. They always seemed more agreeable, and offered more equitable trades, with each other than the human player. Sure, the human player can make a trade and then declare war next, but more than likely, the AI civ got the better deal in terms of the trade. Also, if the human keeps declaring war, he's not going to get any future trades anyway.
