Tech Tree Discussion

I edited my post above with a picture. Its how it should normally look with the icon used for Kemetism religion.

:religion: = Not Founded
No :religion: = Already Founded

Shouldn't it then be, the other way around? " I'm just sayin"

Why would it be the other way? Its following the same pattern as we had before, which was the tech picture with an icon in the corner. Instead of a religious icon in the corner its a :religion:. If we had it like the old way it would look like this ...

Which looks kinda of weird.

OK as long as everyone else is ok with it then, i guess i really didnt pay any attention to the religious icons before.

But i keep forgetting to say, who ever changed the color of the kelp, did a good job:)

Oh, I have them working before you posted, I have backups of my backups. ;) One problem we are having with sea features is that they are placed before the seas get split into polar, temperate and tropical.

Tags would be need to be added and map scripts changed. They probably should be anyway. Currently we change the ocean climate zone after everything else.

I know the tech tree changes are still a new thing but I believe I'm seeing dividends from the Religion changes already. I'm not the city leader on Noble and the tech race is neck and neck for the top 4 players.

I'm beelining Judaism as hard and fast as I can and I have Narbona and Pericles clipping my heels. Next day or 2 should really start to give a good feel for the breakups of the old clusters.

JosEPh :)

Great! Keep us updated on your progress and if the techs help keep civs from hording the religions.

ok so i thought of this idea that maybe i should add techs specific to a tech or a culture in the game(kinda like age of empires 2), if such a thing can be done it would really add some variety to the cultures and make them seem more different. can such a thing even be done?:dubious:

Techs towards culture:hmm: Wouldn't it be better if events would happen per culture through techs:dunno:

So, just to make sure before I go and change stuff again, the proper button for the religions is

Code:
<Button>Art/Interface/Buttons/TechTree/found_scientology.dds</Button>

Correct? Where I replace scientology with whatever religion I'm doing.

ok sorry let me rephrase that, what i meant to say is that certain cultures would give you techs unique to that culture (like in AOE2) so that say a french culture could give you a free tech a tech called champange making (i don't mean that in a sterotypical way i just don't really know something that is very unique to them:undecide::dunno:)

This seems to be better done through a building that required French culture resource in that case.

true, but that's not the point, it was just an example you could call the tech pretty much any invention that's unique to france i thought about the montgolfier brothers balloon(i know this is already a tech but it did come from france...)

Well one of the biggest problem is the alternate timelines. Unlike other mods which try to replicate history and historical events C2C is all about making your own unique culture. Thus you could have Egypt build the Great Wall or the Aztecs invent champagne. C2C is more of a Sandox than a historical simulator.

However when things do line up historically we do gives some bonuses such as the French culture wonder can build the Eiffel Tower faster. In short culture techs, while a cool idea I don't think fit it well with the open ended nature of our culture system. If you have a specific example of one that could be done only through techs please let me know. otherwise I think it can be represented through culture resources (ex. French) and/or regional cultures (ex. European).

I agree. I don't think we should have specific techs for cultures, but we can represent some of the "flavor" of a culture by having buildings with culture resource requirements. We already do that with a few buildings (like Dike and Salon).
