This is a resource thread for Technology Costs which is good when trading with Rivals.

Notes
1. The [number] indicates a drop in cost when a rival has discovered it.
2. Green is an optional technology, not required to jump to the next Age.
3. Bolded will be the techs we know.

The Formula is ...

Research Cost = [MM * [10*COST * (1 - N/[CL*1.75])]/(CF * 10)] - Research done so far

Research Cost and research done so far are in gold.
Square brackets indicate truncation /rounddown

MM = map modifier(tech rate on world sizes tab in the editor)
Tiny 160
Small 200
Standard 240
Large 320
Huge 400

CF = AI cost factor(as on the difficulty tab in the editor)
For the purposes of the research cost formula, CF has a maximum value of 10.
Chieftain 10
Warlord 10
Regent 10
Monarch 9
Emperor 8
Deity 6

COST = technology cost as on the civilization advances tab in the editor.

N = number of civs on the diplomacy screen that have discovered the tech.

CL = number of civs left in the game
CL = 5 initially

Formula for MTDG II is ...
= MM * [ 10*COST * (1 - N/[5*1.75]) ] / (8 * 10)
= MM * [10 * COST * (1 - N/8.75)] / 80
= 240 * [10 * COST * (1 - N/8.75)] / 80
=

Using this formula ...

Variables (at this stage)
MM = 240 (Standard Map Size)
CF = 8 (Emperor)
N = 0 (since we have not met any other civ)
N = 1 (for those we began with or aquire)
CL = 5 (number of rivals)

Questions
1. These values seem very large ... am I missing something ??? :confused:
2. This one related to trading, are these beaker values directly proportunal to the gold value ?

yes. The cost of the techs is the cost in the editor. I think you used the beakers listed above? For instance, the cost of pottery is 2, which if you use that formula, becomes 60 (240 *10*2 / 8)

To get the cost, divide the initial beakers by 30 ;)

Thanks AutoTeller :thumbsup:

Using this formula ... and then divide by 30

Variables (at this stage)
MM = 240 (Standard Map Size)
CF = 8 (Emperor)
N = 0 (since we have not met any other civ)
N = 1 (for those we began with or aquire)
CL = 5 (number of rivals)

I assume that Beaker Values are directly proportunal to the Gold Value

Looking really great :thumbsup: - this will be very useful! (esp. if well maintained) :D

I assume that Beaker Values are directly proportional to the Gold Value
This is only true at the very beginning of the game. Once we start getting libraries, Gold becomes more valuable than traded beakers. (Because every unit of gold can be converted into 1.5 beakers in our towns with libraries. Of course, not every town will have libraries… and once we start building market places – that balances the libraries, but I'm sure we'll always have way more libraries than we do markets. I'm sure the math could be worked out precisely on this – but it would be quite the complicated equation once we have more than a handful of towns.)

Bottom line: before literature, Gold = Beakers. Every library built makes traded Gold more valuable and traded beakers less valuable.

Long time since we had an update, but now that we have advanced to the next age and have met BABE it seems a good time to survey the status.
There are trade opportunities with SABER and BABE if we wish to pursue them. They don't seem to be trading together. SABER lacks Mysticism, Literature, MapMaking, HBR, Polytheism and Construction. BABE lacks Masonry, Math, Construction and Currency.

We definitely know that Babe are one of the two that have Chivalry as we have seen some of their Knights sauntering around on SCI.
