Technology slowdown /speedup?

Hi!

Has anyone ever tried to slow down or speed up technology advancement? I wanted to slow it down. I doubled the "tech rate" - nothing changed. I doubled the cost for every technology - nothing changed. It just doesn't use some of my custom rules!

I disallowed civs, changed civ names and so on - no problem. Just the technologies always cost the same - no matter what...

I'm using the 1.21f temp. international editor.
 
You probably need to change the Max and Min turns to research techs. Right now, the max number of turns it takes to research is only 40. You will need to increase this with the editor to make your tech cost changes effective.

personally, I wish I could easily change the ancient age techs to go faster, and middle and industrial the same, with modern perhaps a bit longer. It seems to me that the ancient techs come slow, and the modern techs come fast, may just be my strat though, build lotsa cities at first, so most are small, then build like no cities later one, so they huge.
 
I am having the same problem...infact I came to the board today to ask this exact question of someone. I'm trying to start a new game (1.21), with a slower tech rate (I don't like tanks in 1500 AD). The problem is I change the tech rate with little to no effect. Using small map (80X80) I want all the way from 10 to 350 for the tech rate and bronze working always cost 15 to 21 turns, depending on the start location...before it was always 32 to 40 (and tech advancement was still to fast).
What exactly does tech rate do, and how can I effectivly slow down tech advancement?
 
What I have done is:

I added advances in the modern era to slow down techs.

I found the solution to my problem... I had the map in two different folders. One in scenarios and one in another one. Because I always opened it in the editor by klicking on the last used file (it didn't show the full path), I didn't realize that I was not editing the file in the /scenarios/ folder... Stupid me...

If the tech rate doesn't change, try increasing the max. number of turns, too.
