Thanks to Barbatos, I finally used the #$&! world editor

I suppose it has been mentioned that Shadow will feature proper implementation of equipment? Hint dropping is such fun.

Hint all you like lol. I'm already looking forward to the shadow release of this mod at least as much as any commercial product I'm looking forward too. :D

Uh oh....I can foresee obsessive trading on an in-game Auction House will follow afterwards.

Will crafting recipes be implemented as well? :*)

Ashamed to say I win that cookie, but I've managed to detox now.

Am I the only one that thinks you should get some sort of promotion for killing him?

A tome? His skull? something?

Maybe a conditional promotion? If killer isnt a hero, make him one. If killer is a hero without spellcasting, give him spellcasting.

No, you're not the only one.

I'm not quite sure what the reward should be, but it would be nice to see one (other than the opportunity to gain a now-vacated death node). Something along the lines of Orthus' Axe (a tradeable promo) would seem to be in order, but given his nature I'd like to something magical. Not quite sure what, but here are some off the cuff ideas:

Rod of Barbatos: +1 spell range
Hand of the Lich: Grants Death I and Channelling I
Deathward Ring: +100% resist death
Mask of Barbatos: Fear

Thinking about it, there could be problems with an item like the Hand. Consider, mage gets the hand, uses next promotion to take Death II, then gives the hand to someone else. They now no longer have Death I, and presumably won't be offered it in future promotions (not sure, but could conceive that Death II renders Death I obsolete).

But as I said... off the cuff ideas.

Edit: on the subject of becoming a hero, I believe there's already an event which has a chance of a unit gaining this promo if winning against tough odds. Perhaps it could just be made slightly more common. Only slightly, though - don;t want everyone having dozens of heroes, or they cease to be special.

Death II does not render death I obsolete. (Although death I is no longer displayed when you have death II, this is purely to reduce the clutter. If you have levels I and III then they are listed separately, but then can purchase II and ave them all consolidated into one place, appearing to only be the level III one. the mouse-over of the unit still displays all the promotions separately) There is no reason the mage couldn't lose death I after gaining death II, and then get death I again.

The main problems I see with a promotion granting death I and channeling are:
1. this is a very easy promotion to get anyway (especially as the Amurites), so it isn't very valuable
2. If an adept that already had death I got a hold of the hand, and then passed it on to someone else, it would probably lose the promotions it already had (channeling I too, which could be a problem as it is needed for all the level I spells)

Personally, I'm quite enjoying the change I made: any arcane unit on the tile with the sepulcher can cast lichdom (also, when I noticed that liches no longer stat with combat I and extension I, I added combat I-III and extension I. I also raised the limit on the number of liches you have from 3 to 6, and am considering adding an alternate death III sorcery spell so you'd still want the promotion. Also note that Liches do not start with channeling promotions, sorcery, or summoning, so the arcane units do not gain access to any more spells than they had while alive. Waiting until after upgrading your casters is a good idea, or else you are filling you lich spots with undead adepts)

Death II does not render death I obsolete.

Really? Well, thanks for clearing that up.

Actually, now you mention it I do remember your lichdom variant. I like the idea. A novel reward, and for a civ that otherwise lacks the ability to field Death III archmages, potentially powerful enough to be worth devoting a lot of effort into sending Barbatos to his eternal rest.

In the spirit of Orthus' Axe, you ought to get the Tome of Barbatos. Same mechanism, you can pass it around like the axe. This one grants you twincast (Or summoner trait for all your summons if that can be coded).

Of course, there will be much more variety when items come into the game in 19 days, so there really is no need to mimic the Axe but go Magical with it :)

My personal vote would be something to reflect how insanely hard it was to kill him. Robes of Barbatos Grants the wearer the effect of Stoneskin (and since it is from an item, that means EVERY combat you are immune to the first 3 hits).

That power would be extremely powerful for the Khazad, who cannot normally build mages.

It might be a good idea to require the arcane unit to have channeling II.

I don't think anyone will disagree that this guy is a tougher nut to crack than Orthus, yet when you kill Orthus you get his powerful axe. I like the ideas of gaining some sort of object you can pass around like the axe. Of course, you have to consider what the barbs might do with the object as a goblin could end up with it. ;)

The other thing I mentioned before is that more XP should be given when you kill a barb hero and it should not be affected by the 100 XP cap. I killed one of the Horseman with a Mercurian Angel (68.9% odds) and got only one XP because the unit had more than 100 XP. Had I not had the Raider trait, I suppose I would have gotten nothing. There should be some reward for killing a hero.

Head of Vecna link was very funny, Nikis. Brought back pleasant memories of the bickering and (sometimes literally) backstabbing of a true party of adventurers.

Hogger....is like that some kind of motorcycle Gnoll gangster?

 Something you kill mindlessly for XP?

As you'll see if you check the recently updated Shadow Schedule thread, killing Barbatos will get you a piece of equipment that adds death affinity to a unit. That could be much more powerful than Orthus's Axe (If you went overboard on getting death mana)

Hmmmm... would this work in Erebus the pbf? :mischief:
