The 2nd Team PBEM

Where are we on this guys? Do we all agree that Gen_W should set up the game? I'm anxious to play...

Ok – I set up a game and sent the file to gbno1fan!

[party]

I wasn’t sure how to narrow the random civs down to a certain list in-game – so I just used some dice, and randomly assigned civs here on a piece of paper. I used all the suggested civs, except the agri ones.

Hopefully everyone is ok with their selections.

Here’s a screenshot of all the game settings:

Looking forward to playing with all of you!

I'll post an update on my first turn tomorrow.

Here's my update for all lurkers!

Spoiler lurkers only :

Turn Summary for Lurkers Only!

-- 4000 BC --

Update:
Well, I drew the Babylonians as my random Civ. I'm not thrilled with my traits, but I do like the Bowman UU. It's no Hoplite, but at least I know what unit I'll be building A LOT of.
I founded my city right where I started – seemed good enough, I had a nice river and a good mix of grassland and plains… but no special resources… however, this is a small map, I'm sure I don't have time to look around. Planting my city revealed Furs to my Southwest, so I sent my worker to start a road to them.
In a reminder of how long it's been since I played civ3, (and I was so excited to get this game started…) I forgot to set my research! – slaps forehead –
So, I'm already a turn behind that way.

Stay tuned for more from Babylon!

- Chapter 1 -
Ammora knelt by the riverside, vigorously washing the crude animal skin clothes of her family. Most of her days began down here by the river – either drawing water, washing clothes, or playing with the children when the weather was nice. Today was all business though. Her husband, Esarh, had ben called away by the Great General for a meeting of some kind. He had been gone for days now. Ammora tried focus on her work… and tried not to worry. Before long she settled into a rhythm of rinsing, scrubbing, and wringing out the water as the river gently babbled along.
Suddenly, her work was interrupted by the sound of male voices shouting. Ammora jumped to her feet, dropped her washing, and ran up the gently sloping river bank. As she reached the crest, she could see the group of 3 men running towards the large hut that Ammora's family shared with 2 other families. She strained her eyes to try to recognize the men, and then yelped with glee when she recognized Esarh among the men hurrying home.
As she ran to meet her husband, she was able to hear what he was shouting for the first time… "A city… A city… The Great General says that we will build a city!"
Ammora wondered what this "city" was that they were all so excited about it… but there was time to find out more about that latter. For now, she was just happy to have her husband home.

Hittites, eh? Certainly not one of my all-time favorite civs. Now let's see if you put me on a small island with no goody huts for my scouts, no native horses, and lots of jungle and mountains to keep me from using my 3MCs even if I trade for horses (yes, I know, you just started a random map, but if any of the above happen, I am holding you personally responsible, General_W!)

Now I'm the one reading the spoilers  . Just remember to keep your spoilers in Quotes to avoid fe's prying eyes.

Ision said:
It is said that the noise was deafening, the blaring trumpets - the pounding hoofs of horses pulling the largest chariots known - the dying screams of the vanquished - these were the last sounds heard by the once great empire of Babylon. Their demise was at the hands of a new and vibrant warrior culture known as the Hittites.

Let's hope History dosn't repeat itself! ;)

Also - Ision said...
The Hittites are a difficult CIV to play well, requiring a greater attention to detail and a full maximizing of their traits in order to be successful.
If that dosn't sound like you Chamnix, I don't know what does!

Good luck! :king:

GPS to classical_hero - I see some people managed to found a town :(

Spoiler lurkers only :
Turn 1(-4000) – 3 players go before me, and all 3 founded a town. I will not found a town on my first turn – I clearly want to move SW to the river. Usually I would move my scout first, but since I am very confident the settler will go SW to settle, and the worker will go south to the cow, and I am not sure where the scout will go, I will move the scout last. First, worker S – nothing. Settler SW – more nothing. Scout decides to go N-N to the hill – I am in the southeast generally, so north seems good, and my town will uncover the mountain area, so north it is. After going 1 N, I start feeling a little queasy – mountains and jungle. After 2 N, I see marsh to the west – oh, boy.

On the plus side, if those are flood plains to the NW as they appear to be, I could have a 4-turn settler factory. On the minus side, I have no idea if I will have any good spots to put any future settlers….

:bump:

This game is going to have to go faster than this... or my grandkids will have to finish it.

:D

P.S. I don't even have children yet!

Anyone heard from CH?

I don't have FE's email address so I can't send him the save. I'll make sure he gets it though.

Which brings me to: I think we all need eachother's emailaddress for Diplomacy.

I don't know what this "Diplomacy" thing is that Rik mentioned - does it have anything to do with chariot grooves on someone's back? But my email address is chamnix at hotmail dot com

I've added emails to the info post.
