Spoiler :
Turn 14 (-3350) – I get a palace expansion! Classical_hero said he is building a road to my new town, and I can see his worker. It is very suspicious, but what can I do? If he attacks my town, I will attack his, and I would think he would have more important things to do with his worker.

Classical_hero completed Bronze Working.

I see a brown border and can make contact with Rik! I am up Bronze Working and Ceremonial Burial on Rik. I know he has Masonry, but it doesn’t appear he has anything else I lack. I am strong compared to Rik with my 1 warrior. What is he building first? Barracks apparently.

EDIT - It just dawned on me that I am not up Pottery on Rik. Since he apparently doesn't have a warrior, how did he get it? 1) He had a warrior, popped it, and then the warrior was subsequently killed. 2) He popped it via cultural expansion of his capital. 3) Gbno1fan or classical_hero traded it to him. It also means he could be building a granary first instead of barracks. Very big difference in potential game plans for him.

EDIT 2 - Rik just replied to my introductory email - he mentioned he researched Pottery. Now I feel stupid :wallbash::blush:. On the plus side, that almost guarantees he is working on a granary and planning a peaceful start.

Spoiler the lurkers :

I've met Chamnix.

We have already chatted and are exploring a tech trade possibbility.
I've send him Masonry unaccepted. He has Bronze and CB (so he says) and I'd like Bronze. Masonry is a bit more expensive, but I told Chamnix that I'll forget that if he becomes a "friend" - when we agree to research together + have a non-aggression pact.

We'll see how he responds.

Spoiler :
Turn 15 (-3300) – Lots of diplomacy going on during the long layoff. Rik and I are going to be friends and work to the Republic slingshot together. We have peace until at least 10 turns after the slingshot and can negotiate more at that point. He started Writing a few turns ago. We agreed to an immediate trade of Bronze Working (from me) for Masonry (from him). I also told him about my friendship with gbno1fan, and Rik agreed that the 3 of us could work together.

With gbno1fan, we have an agreed trade of Ceremonial Burial and the Wheel (from me) for Iron Working (from him). I send him Ceremonial Burial with accept this turn. We also have a non-aggression pact that can only be cancelled with 20 turns notice.

Pre-turn –

My 3 citizens give me 20% of the world’s population – somebody lost a citizen. Checking F11 shows it was Babylon. Babylon just grew to size 2 recently, so it is very unlikely General_W produced a settler – produced a worker, hit by disease, or ravaged by barbarians?

F11 looks great - #1 in manufactured goods (6 – even with 4 I would be in first, but 3 knocks me to 5th), GNP (8, but 7 puts me in 3rd), and productivity.

Classical_hero – my military is weak, I am up Alphabet.
Gbno1fan – my military is weak, I am up Ceremonial Burial (for now).
Rik_Meleet – my military is strong, I am up Bronze Working (for now) and Ceremonial Burial.

Nothing new during play. I offer classical_hero a non-aggression pact with 5 turns warning.

Spoiler :
Turn 16 (-3250) – On the diplomatic front, I agreed to peace with classical_hero unless 10 turns warning is given. I guess he was sincere about building a trade route and is not building an attack road – I would have thought his worker had higher priorities, but what do I know? He also wanted to trade free cities, but I had to turn that down – my location looks much better than his.

I learned the Wheel – how did that happen? I’m almost positive I was 2 turns away last turn… set research to Mathematics. I need to do something while Rik does Writing, and I suspect I can outresearch him, so I don’t want to do anything too cheap.

Pre-flight check – there are horses east of my capital between me and classical_hero’s free town. I don’t believe there is much chance that C_H will get them – if he does, then obviously I would take them pretty easily. Classical actually has horses near Zimbabwe so if he tried to take mine, too, that wouldn’t go over well.

Classical_hero – my military is weak, I am up Alphabet and Masonry (he does have the Wheel).
Gbno1fan – my military is weak, I am up Ceremonial Burial, The Wheel, and Masonry. I thought I gave him CB last turn – either I screwed up, or he didn’t accept it because he wants out of our deal. I send him CB and the Wheel this turn and a note.
Rik_Meleet – my military is strong, I am up the Wheel and Ceremonial Burial.

One civ has warrior code (c_h).

From F11 – my 3 citizens are now 21% of the world’s population so we are down to 14 citizens total. Classical_hero is no longer matching me – he lost a citizen (built a settler/worker?). His capital no longer appears on F11 so I can’t tell what his drop was. My scout finds still more horses to the southeast – classical_hero will probably get that one and be able to sell a source if he wants to.
