I just finished up a game where Cyrus was breaking away with the tech lead and building spaceship parts like no tomorrow, so naturally he needed to be brought down a notch. So I wiped out his main empire, leaving him with two cities locked in the southern glaciers. (The image below shows the nicer of the two.)

Later on I sent a spy to check up on him, and lo and behold, here's what he's building:

Gotta give him credit for persistence, but seriously...does he really expect to win??

have a heart! gift him a workboat so that he can at least get the fish hooked up to work a mine, you meanie! *giggle*. oh shoot you can't, you don't have OB :(

is your name by any chance elizabeth as you've named yourself elizabeth the third, seems a bit weird i always stick with the names of the leaders.

Events like this make me want to start a new trend - AS instead of AI. For example: "the AS kept building archers to defend against my quechas".

This is what happens when a so-called AI is programmed to "pursue" space victory only ( read: enter in build space parts mode).

EDIT: The thing is even worse : why the hell didn't he built a work boat first? that would allow it to work the iron.... AI at is best

@ Ecofarm: Other Civ versions have that, and this one deserves it too :(

the worst thing about it is that he has to build 5 of them and 3 thrusters and a life support, docking bay, cockpit, stasis chamber and (worst of all) the infamous SS engine.

those combined should take him about 25000 years or so... just in time for Civ5000

it could be worser-worse! he could have taken the time to build a forge but not a workboat first! so then he could get 25% more hammers but still just have only 1 hammer to work due not being able to work the fish/mine combo, for a no-hammer, less health bonus! *giggle*.

Well... what exactly do you expect him to do? I think he is smart enough to know he is done... as opposed to trying to rise from the ashes and RULE THE WORLD!! ...

I noticed the AI is still utterly stupid when it comes to the space race. Even in the midst of a war, and getting its ASS kicked, it will still sit there and work on stupid space ship parts while you march your whole army just outside the city.

I know the AI doesn't trade techs for the space race, but it is ironic. If I am about to invade an AI and I have tech for the space race that it doesn't.. I will GIFT the tech, just so it builds those components instead of military units.

Firaxis really needs some fixing in this area.

It's worse than you think -- I've seen the AI build space parts, in the middle of war, after I launched the spaceship!

I've also seen AI cities with over 100 turns to build a Bomber or SAM Infantry -- seems like that's how it's programmed, to reinforce the garrison before building a granary or theatre or something. There's a reason these icelocked cities never grow, the AI's not smart enough to build cheap infrastructure while airlifting the necessary troops & workers from its core cities. (Although I can excuse Cyrus in this case, as it IS his core city! :mischief:)

honey ... that means you were building something, anything, after you won the game. how smart does that make you?

kidding, i've done that myself, to see what happens, or to see how long it would take me to win another way, etc. *giggle*. but you were soooooooo asking for it!!!!

Ask yourself what you'd build in Cyrus' position. His chances of winning are no different regardless. The answer is: nothing, because you wouldn't play the game out. The AI doesn't have that luxury, so it has to build something. Perhaps Cyrus went insane after the loss of his empire, couldn't accept his situation, and suffers from delusions that his glorious nation is about to colonise the stars.

i'd build scotland yard to go sabotage that mean ole Elizabeth III is what i'd do. but i'd build a workboat first! *giggle*

Doubtless there are smarter things the AI could be doing in this situation, but on the other hand, maybe it JUST DOESN'T CARE. I mean, any human player would have ditched the game and started over by this time. The AI doesn't have that option. Mindlessly building a space ship part for the next 1000 turns is as good as anything else it could be doing at this stage of the game, with two ice-locked cities.

Just think of it as your opponent leaving the game and going to watch TV.

yes, the AI has that excuse to go watch TV when it's already been pounded. but i've also seen such bad decisions in the high point of their empire. maybe the AI was also just bored that it's civ was running too smoothly, and decided to go watch TV
