The Ancient Mediterranean MOD (TAM)

It's fairly easy to import the rules onto a different premade map (Yoda's Persian Empire map works well, frex). You'll have to spend some attention, tho, to making sure the resources end up sensibly, and you'll have to place the player start locs by hand.

As a general rule, I don't take breaks. (I know, I know, what's this then?)

This weekend, however, that rule was broken. Due to fortuitous scheduling, I managed to find a few hours to kick back. When I discovered that one of my suitemates had a copy of Civilization III lying aroumd, I knew that was just the ticket. So we fired up Hotseat and played for a few hours, mostly Rise of Rome.

That night, I came online and found TAM. My friend had downloaded it the next day, and despite a heavy scheduele and a pledge not to play until the weekend, couldn't keep himself from opening the map, nearly knocking down my door, and insisting we play.

I took Carthage, and he took Egypt. Thus far, it's been an interesting game. Hotseat does a number on the faction distribution; we have only a handful of the total numbers one would find in a normal game due to the inherent restrictions of the multiplayer format. That's okay, however, as we are both taking the time to expand and build up formidable pocket empires.

My friend surged ahead thanks to Egypt's capacity for rapid growth, and quickly built five cities to my three. He's got the formidable core of an army, and already managed to raze one Israeli city, turning Solomon's state into a tributary. I'm a bit flummoxed, sitting all alone in North Africa with only a fraction of the resources. Thankfully, however, I just stumbled onto some horses, which has given me chariots, and the means to quick exploration (and, hopefully, some expansion as well).

So far, I'm enjoying myself thoroughly. Just thought I'd share.

Paalikles and I have just finished the 1st TAM PBEM to my knowledge. My spoiler can be found here, and don't forget to read Paalikles's one in his sub-forum. I won as Macedon against his Roman whores, on the large Med map. The game was very slow, but I got excited in the end. :)

well first i need to say thanks, for your hard work in doing the mod...

i have a question: how come i cant download the mod?

10x for helping

Thamis, I'm sure lots of others have already told you how great the mod is, I can only say I agree.
However, I have the problem that it is impossible to set the research slider beyond 60%, it just gets stuck there and will move no further. Is this a known bug? I have the latest patch for C3C and otherwise everything works fine.

The research rates are capped based on the Government you are in. 60% is the max for Despotism, higher governments allow you to research higher, like Monarchy is 80% IIRC, and Republic will allow 100% Research.

I keep getting this when i try to play the gaem

Missing in entry "scenarios\..\conquest\RiseofRome\text\Pediaicons.txt icon-bldg-bible. How do i fix this?

do you have Conquests 1.22 installed ?

i have conquest and i tried to install it like you said but that did not work. I replaced my pediaicons for a diffreant mod. I lost he old one :( I have Conquest 1.22 how can i get the old one back withour reinstalling.

Thamis, your mod is really excellent, and i've enjoyed it a lot.

I have always experienced a problem, though. I know that max research is dependant on gov type. But I can't get the slider to stick to anything lower than 40%. If I set it at 10%, for example, it will work for that turn and then reset to 40% at the next turn. It's driving me nuts (but not so nuts I can stay away from playing TAM).

Is this on purpose? If not, any ideas? I reinstalled it and I have the latest patch.

Thanks for any help on this...

oops, no, I mean I can't set science for anything higher than the gov type allows (which makes sense) but I also can't get research to stay at anything lower than 40% - ever. So If I wanted to set science at 0% (which I do early on if I'm playing Emperor or Diety), the next turn it pops back out to 40%. Weird, right?

But if you're not aware of that happening than I guess it's not intentional. And something tells me if it was a bug in your mod someone else would have noticed and mentioned something a long time ago. Which leaves me clueless. Anyone with any ideas, please let me know.

Oh well, I'll just take it as an added challenge in the meantime.

Thamis, thanks again for making an excellent mod. It's so interesting and well rounded and I keep coming back to play a different civ, because each one is a whole different experience. Civ 3 is a great game on its own, but it's all the people like you that have made it such an expansive experience.
