The Ancient Mediterranean MOD (TAM)

They have to change the history books cause the Macedonian Empire just took Rome. I would loved to see the Roman faces as the Macedonians took Rome.

If you want goody huts but no barbs, you need to use the Sedentary option. You can still pop angry barbarians from a hut however.

Popping barbs OK. It is the 25+ seconds delay as it sets up between each move that is the killer.
Do you mean to set this option through the editor?
Have just tried with Barbs on my new 2,8 Mhz machine and it is no faster.

There is an option to set the barbarian activity level for the map under scenario properties in the editor.

EDIT: Doesn't 2.5j come with a 'no wolves' biq? The 2 move wolves use up a lot of the time it takes to move the barbs on the map.

read somewhere in an other thread that having to calculate seatrade is what is slowing civ3 down. alowing only landtrade is much faster.
hope it helps or is possible with this mod.
ps
i think it was the ww2 global mod

When I open the editor and then try to open a scenario I am told that Windows does not recognise this and cannot open.
Obviously I am doing something wrong. What is the sequence to open a scenario for editing?

I finished my first game of TAM, by building a silk road. After I built the last peice, I became stuck on the 'silk road' screen, ie the modified spaceship screen. The game hadn't crashed, but I was unable to leave the screen, or quit the game. Finally I did a ctrl-alt-delete, and quit the game that way. I restarted my computer, and now my desktop won't show up. My desk top disapearing happened right after the silk road crash. Any advice?

There should be the equivalent of the 'launch' button on the silk road screen which would allow the game to finish properly.

I have no idea why your desktop got screwed up unless there was some spyware somewhere messing with it. Spyware is the #1 cause of most computer problems.

Nobody else has complained of this problem previously that i am aware of.

It sounds more like a problem with your computer then the game. I never heard or had this happen before.

I reloaded the autosave. When the "spaceship" screen comes up, it's just a blank pink screen with "sardis" in one corner and the caravan houses listed as modules. But there is no launch button.

I'm using TAM 2.1 for PTW (1.27f).

I have not seen that particular problem in about a couple of years. When it happened to me ctrl-alt-del worked by sending me to the desktop. Luckily I had saved the turn just prior to the lockup and just kept playing without trying for the silk road. After that experience I would play for other victory conditions.

Most of the "originals'' who used to play and post about TAM have moved onto other pursuits. And the ones who remain like myself have long since upgraded to conquests. Maybe Thamis might be able to help, but I doubt it as his "memory banks" have probably been cleared long ago regarding PTW. Sorry about that.

Then I guess my next qeustion would be: should I upgrade to conquests. The main reason I hadn't is that I mainly play with friends locally and we all use PTW. Is Conquests the "next upgrade?" Or is it just fluff?

Conquests is worth the upgrade, especially if you want to do MP. For TAM, Conquests allows you to play the final version of TAM.

If you and your friends will get it used at amazon, you'll certainly get a good deal. For MP, Conquests is much more stable and has some other improvements as well. PTW MP is actually considered fairly broken in the community.

Conquests is the way to go. Even though they should be coming out with Civ 4 soon, Conquests is really your only option for stable gameplay and decent MP until then.

I've had TAM installed for ages and played it many, many times yet it now tells me that I have items missing from the pedialcon and the game quits. How does this happen and must I download and reinstall the whole game?
