The Ancient Mediterranean MOD (TAM)

Thamis, I would really consider allowing ocean trade in the random map at least. Reason why I say this, is that if you play pangea, this feature won't change much anyways, though if you play archipelago or continents you can't live without it. Even with 60% water I ran accross a map where the 2 continents were separated. After conquering mine before the end of the 2nd age, I lost interest in continuing the game. I would have either had to start a war on the other continent without having the chance to bring home the spoils of war, or sit in my continent and play until the end of the game without any serious threat. Kinda boring
Of course I can just edit navigation or exploration on my own, but... I don't know, I guess I just wanted to hear opinions on the matter ?

In addition, some thought should be given to the discoveries by Dr. Ballard in the deep Med basin of Roman trading galleys which were on a direct-line trade route between Italy and Egypt. These wrecks were in such deep water that they would qualify as 'ocean' in the Mod.

WASHINGTON -- Using a remotely operated vehicle and a nuclear submarine deep on the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea, a team of oceanographers, engineers and archaeologists led by Robert Ballard has discovered the largest concentration of ancient shipwrecks ever found in the deep sea, one of them dating to before the time of Christ.
The cluster of eight ships, along with thousands of artifacts spanning more than 2,000 years of human history, lies 2,500 feet (762 meters) beneath an ancient trade route -- almost a half-mile (805 meters) below the surface. They include five ships from ancient Roman times lost between about 100 B.C. and 400 A.D., one Islamic ship from the 18th or early 19th centuries, and two modern ships lost in the 19th century.
The discovery -- including retrieval of more than 100 artifacts -- was announced Wednesday at the National Geographic Society.

*grin* well, you wouldn't risk the run carrying a load of marble unless other vessels had made it successfuly....

Besides, there's more than one ship there, so it looks like it was an established trade run.

Great mod!

There is only one thing i do not understand. Why does the Longswordsman upgrade to Raider (for Kolchis, Sea People & Picts). Is this just an error?

uhm, they don't in 2.5i. Didn't have time to check 2.5j yet though.

Hi,

Is there any other maps for this great mod?
Using 140x140 map with no barbarians, I will try to make a smaller map (something like 80x80, covering the appr. same regions with 100x100 map) and reduce number of civs to 12-14.
Any warnings?

Just the maps that come with it.

I suspect the landmass shapes will be hard to do at 100x100. You're more than welcome to give it a go but it's gonna be alot of work! TAM development is basically over with unless some odd bug pops up or thamis commissions a new version.

well, ckuyuk, the Fertile Crescent map is pretty much what you described. Did you try it ? Very well done IMO.

Yes, but I liked 140x140 map more than that one.
I will make a quick map from 140x140, leaving only fertile crescent regions & related civs.

Thanks for replies.

well I really like the Snoopy's terrain graphics and I'd like to use it with the TAM2.5j mod. I've installed clear Civ3 then the C3C expansion and patched it to v1.22. I've got the TAM folder in the conquests\conquests location. What to do to see Snoopy's terrain in the game? The default TAM look isn't really bad but I'm used to Snoopy's colors, resources etc.
anybody help?

I don't recommend trying to mod the mod. There are too many terrain and resource graphics specific to TAM.

DO NOT replace the resource graphics whatever you decide to do.

You can try overwriting *only* the ..\TAM 2.5\ART\Terrain files with snoopy's but some of the terrain may not make sense afterwards. Especially the swamp/marsh tiles. One of those replaces jungle in the epic game.

A large group of my buddies all wish to have a LAN party bash at TAM, but there are more than 8 of us, is it possible to play this multiplayer with the full 31 civs involved? or are we limited to just 8 players/civs?
