The Anti-Wonders of the World

Apolyton and CivFanatics were both part of CivJunction, but then split due to some kind of controversy about pay-for downloads. Most of the content on this forum actually comes from the old CivJunction site.

To the topic, I don't know what would motivate me to build a negative wonder, though I'm sure the AIs would all rush to build them.

The London Slums should also produce a Red Jack now and again.

I'd throw out Soviet Space Shuttle as an idea, but I can't think of the modifiers it would provide.

How about Social Security: Boosts happiness for 100 years, but then the country goes bankrupt.

Spoiler :
Isn't that a REAL wonder? I can't think of a nation thats actually happy to have Bush as the US Prez right now, and yes, that includes the US.
And yet, he was reelected just 2-3 "turns" ago. As was Tony Blair. As was John Howard.

Some more:
Neville Chamberlain "Peace in our time" appeasement School of diplomacy-- +50% military production in all cities of all other civilizations. Does not grant peace.
US Foreign Aid-- -100 gold per turn. No diplomatic bonus.
Hippy Revolution--Unhappy citizens give -1 health, and if you try to draft, they will move to any adjacent civ with a "legalized marijuana" civic.
Al Jazeera-No war weariness when fighting the "Great Satan". And no war weariness when fighting the "little Satan". No production lost when fighting anyone, actually. In fact, nothing lost but truth.
Genocide---20% population in all your cities. Guaruntees eligibility for "UN Human Rights Commission Chairmanship." )If UN Human Rights Commission reform is passed, Genocide guaruntees eligibility for "UN Human Rights Council chairmanship."

Spielberg's jaws movie: every fish ressources disapearred because of shark hunting....
Scary movie franchise: Hollywood wonder is destroyed and all movie ressources cause +1 unhappy. Of course, no foreign civ can prevent you from giving them!!!
Dominique de Villepin speech at the UN: When you want to prevent a war between two civ, it doesn't do anything...

Global Warming: All tiles -2 :food: -2 :hammers: -2 :gold:. Tiles next to coast made impassable for all civs. - 50% :health: in all cities.

Third World Poverty: -90% :gold:, -90% :hammers:, -90% :food: in all cities all Civs except those in the top two of the scoreboard. + 4 , + 4 :yuck:, cities grow 500% faster.

Guantanamo Bay: increase war werriness, -1 diplomatic penalty with all other civs.

US Foreign Aid-- -100 gold per turn. No diplomatic bonus.
That one made me snort.

Brad and Angelina -10%:science:, drains one pop from an African or Asian civ each turn.
Reality Television -10% :science:, -20%:hammers:, 25% chance of a worker unit downing tools for a shot at TV stardom.
PETA 10% chance that Animal Resources will explode after Industrial Age, 25% chance eco-protest ships will chase your whaling boats around the map.

Some credit to Quagga.
  • Space Shuttle Challenger: kills 7 citizens, +7  "You knew this was going to fail!"
  • Soviet Space Shuttle Program: America falls into anarchy "They built that instead of ours!"
  • Sputnik Program: +10% :science:, -5 "You were spying on us, weren't you?"
  • Hadrians Wall: prevents :traderoute: and open borders with England
  • Institute for Food and Development Policy: +50% :food:, absolutely no :traderoute:
  • War on Terrorism: no foreign :traderoute:, -25% :commerce: in all cities, -3 "Stop meddling already!"
  • World Bank Group: -10 :commerce: per turn for every other Civ below builder's score

The Three Gorges Dam:- Floods an area of outstanding natural beauty forever, makes 40 million people homeless, provides hydropower to some cities on the river it's built......

Hold on haven't we already got that one? :mischief:

EDIT: Hadrian's Wall :- keeps out all invaders under 4 feet tall (have you seen it?)

The Watergate Hotel: will launch anarchy to last 10 rounds, +2  per city.

The Silvio Berluscino Presidency: effect of courthouses -50%, increased corruption means -25% :commerce: in capital.

The Boris Yeltsin Presidency: effect of wineries +300%, +2:) in the capital, but overall production and commerce -25%

The Jessica Lynch and Pat Tillman Memorial: public trust in military leadership diminished, war weariness +50%, all Great General units demoted.

The Danish Ministry of Taxation: all motorized landbased units cost +180% :hammers: or :commerce: to produce. +20% :commerce: in capital.

@Drewbledsoe
Yes, I have, but what it symbolizes would be enough to deter trade. Symbols are very powerful.
If you want proof, look at the idea of a nation, one if the most powerful symbols ever devised. Now, look at all the Poles in this forum. My point is made. :D

On the same line of thought:
  • Polish-style Nationalism: can draft with no  penalty, all units' :strength: are halved
  • American-style Nationalism: +1 :) "We are <plural nationality noun>!", -1 "You are <plural nationality noun>!"
  • CivFanatic-style Nationalism: anarchy for a few turns, +1  "HELL NO, we won't go! No to CivJunction!"

Alien Space Transmitter- Causes an alien invasion to invade the planet and wipe out everyone but you. As you bow down to your masters, you receive a hit movie because the TV crews have a really good idea for a movie!
Einstein-Rosen-Podolsky bridge- Causes a fancy-looking portal to appear in the middle of your territory and a loner who lives in his basement, a moderately hot chick, an overweight professor and a singer named after a painter appear in your civilization as Great People. (unless it's late season 3, then the professor is replaced with a Hot Military Chick GP) Each has their own benfits and disadvantage and can only remain in the world for 29.8 years (turns) before opening the portal and leaving.

Segway Factory- Produces the Segway resource. It gets you +100 :commerce: because the stupid nerds of other civs and your own buy it and it's really expensive for a stupid machine that holds up a pole. However the side-effect is that the :health: of your population decreases by 50% as people sell prized possessions to get their hands on one and some build their own, causing them to suffer badly. if the populace finds out how useless it is and a GP named Maddox were to appear, you'd lose the benefits but keep the side-effects
