The Apollo Challenge Lineup - Game #2 - PAC A cold barren world

Turn 224 Emancipation Victory.

Shaved another 12 turns off my previous attempt.

After trying out Purity last game I don't think I'll pain myself going that route again, and with the locations of Xeno being pretty far out, I'll stick with Supremacy and knockout some playtesting.

This game my goals were to test some early game tech paths and check the strength of 2 external 1 internal coastal routes.


City Planning:

With goals in mind, when I started exploring paths, I revealed more inland spaces before I revealed all my coastline and as expected I got my station drops to the interior as I wanted. This served 2 purposes, blocks forward settling from my neighbors and sets up my coastline for city expansion.

I set to expand cities in the healthiest areas first but fewest turns to start was also taken into account so I went NW W NE SW as it was furthest out. After those 4 cities I went to the sea and set up my titanium city first then another on that island and 2 on the northern islands. 2 late mid-game cities were built, 1 for oil to the far NE, and one south of capital as a defensive city.

I used 2 workers pre-Master Control(T115), after master control I spammed an additional 7 from my boosted production capital. Spammed Generators except for 2 mines in the capital. Watching my Energy info I maintained a net positive energy rate if my trade routes were excluded from the count. with trade routes I was about earned between about 50-80 EPT pre-Organics, 100-150 EPT until I had Xenomalleum on T185 which boosted me to 325-350ish range. I always forget about trying to tech towards Planetary Engineering to get the +1P on generators, it just seems to far out of the way but then again that is a lot of hammers and unlike Xenomalleum it comes with the tech no building required.

Military:

Very peaceful game this time, only 1 war, with FI(T180).It lasted 9 turns, I saw her massing troops w/spy and then they started to heard north so I purchased 5 armors and setup a wall at my southern flank. I lost 1 armor and coerced a peace treaty w/Fidele which had a institute so I saved myself from going into bionics. Note: before this war started I scouted westward with a Cruiser to establish trade route paths to PAU which came in quite handy.

Other than that I stationed 1 artillery and 2 armor at my NE oil base which saw a few massive movements from Hutama but no declarations.

In all I maintained an army of 8 Armor, 2 Rangers, 2 Artillery and 1 Cruiser.

Trade routes were always maintained with Hutama, Elodie and Brasilia then ARC after their death. For the majority of the game I was at friendly status with 4 AI, towards the end only 3. Brasilia was conquered by ARC but the AI even seemed to maintain peace among themselves for most part.

Because the game was peaceful I delayed Affinity Techs, this seemed to work to make the game even more peaceful as not having a dominant affinity means less flags the AI will have to trigger a war. I realize this is not the best strategy for MP games, because the scoreboard shows affinity level I should probably maintain parity with other top players to avoid becoming a target, just something I should keep in mind while fleshing out tech paths.

I only triggered 4 Affinity quests and 1 was bugged, I need to find that Affinity quest thread someone posted explaining all the different triggers/hidden quests.

Trade:

Autoplant Quest popped T99

So for the first 153 turns of the game I was always using 1 trade route for internal Capital boost and 2nd/3rd were sent external. When my island cities had

developed trade routes they immediately began boosting Quyen. After turn 153 I switched mainland cities from boosting the capital to boosting Quyen, as my mainland-coastal cities trade routes with Tiangong ended I put the Trade convoys to sleep and purchased a replacement Trade vessel to boost Quyen. After the boost switch I transferred trade convoys to my late mid-game inner cities as their Trade depots were completed.

Capital trade routes were used initially for stations and as they were destroyed I sent them out towards my neighbors. FBO was my quest station so I killed it and sent TR to New Babylon which had spawned far NW just off coast. After Elodie killed Hekima Station I established route with Brasilia and then ARC after they captured Cidadela.

After boost switch Quyen trade routes were all international until Okiema(sp) spawned late mid-game and I wanted to abuse that food for my surplus.

All in all, 8 Coastal Cities, 16 International trade routes. Either to Le Ceuor/Prosperite or Magan/Ayaana.

Did another attempt. 220 domination win, so 26 turns faster than last time.

Went Supremacy this time, focused on all the science boosting techs until redeemers and then swapped every city to redeemer spam. I'm not sure if it would have been faster to start taking out some AI's earlier with CNDR's. Likely so. But by the time I got redeemers I had conquered the world before the first peace treaties had expired. 4 move lev units are just so good for war.

Virtues were Prosperity to free colonist. Industry to internal trade routes. Knowledge to -40% science cost increase per new city and then picking stuff to keep myself over 0 happy while teching.

Opened with 6 cities until war started. I probably should have put a 7th in on a source of firaxite to get more science. Did a bit of academy spam to keep the tech going. Tech path was essentially all the science related buildings and anything that gave me supremacy points.
