The Avatar size limit is to arbitrary

Did you fight for bringing animated avatars and sigs here?? I can't remember you ever doing so, so why in the name of God do you feel offended by what I said? In any case, you're getting offended amazingly quick. :crazyeye:

(and this is not an insult, just making sure you know that)

You missed my point entirely too, my point was that if you're going to be rude while asking for something that would be an effort to implement and that a good part of the people disagree with, you're never going to get anything. I believe if he stayed polite during the whole thread he would have had a much better shot at it. That was the point, why did you have to twist that into me insulting you??
As I said to Knight-Dragon, when you post a general "you" in response to a post, it's impossible to know if you are replying to ONE person only. Since you didn't make it clear in context that you were NOT including me in your rather obvious slam against people who like animated avatars and sigs as "immature fanatics," how was I to know you only meant one particular individual?

No, I have not lobbied for animated avatars/sigs here except to say I would enjoy having them if allowed. It shouldn't matter to you whether or not I actively lobbied for them here or not. I did say I enjoy them, and in your later post you included an offensive comment (I would certainly consider the phrase "immature fanatics" to be insulting, no matter who it's directed at).

Yes, I realize the person you quoted has been somewhat rude and pushy. Asking politely is the best way to get what one wants, in all things, not just privileges on an Internet forum. But one rudeness doesn't excuse another, in my opinion.

...all im trying to get across is that a little change would make (some) people happy & it really wouldn't be that big of deal. it would help personalize the site a bit more for people who spend a lot of time here...it works in other sites & i think it would be cool to see what people around here could come up with.
nobody is saying that the sigs/avatars/whatever should be obnoxiously big but that is something that is controllable...

but whatever...it is obviously a sore spot for some who care WAY more about NOT having these things than i care about having them.

in the end i have said my piece and i think i will just move along...this bs is keeping me away from a civ game i am enjoying.

I agree that bandwidth isn't such a major issue anymore. The question should therefore be about style. I think that smaller avatars (i.e. 70x70 @ 4kb) forces you to think hard about what you use as an avatar. Having these limits are a good way of making you choose an avatar that is stylish, functional, and meaningful.

And lets face it, smaller avatars, sigs and usernames are just more stylish.... :mischief:

Yeah, you keep telling yourself small is beautiful ;)

80x80 would make my life easier, but Paint.NET is a great resizer of any icon you want :D

Maybe increase the number of pixels allowed, but leave the filesize limit the same? That way, it won't affect the strain on the server, but there will be more potential space for people to express themselves.

Yeah, but in this world we're not about serving the wants of the minority against the majority's will. I think there's always room for compromise, but in this case I think people should be happy with the fact that we're allowed to have avatars and sigs period, because I've been on forums that allowed neither. What we have already feels like compromise enough to me, personally.

Well, nobody is going to force you to have an avatar that's bigger if you want a smaller one. I used to have some really tiny ones here. My current one is the biggest I've ever had on this forum.

I'd be in favour of increasing the size limit. 100x100 would be good, as long as special people like me who uploaded 150+ files still get awesome bigger avs :p

And absolutely no animation!

So if I made one, you would use it? :mischief:

Perhaps you just shouldn't hang around where you can compare so readily

I think you misunderstood me. I'm in FAVOR of 80x80 which is 10 pixels larger than the current default. I'm just pointing out a nice, easy to use, free program for people who might be having difficulties with the current size. :)
