Very nice ! :)

But there must be an urgent clarification, otherwise these two points make Civ 2 ToT feel very outdated (especially only one sound for all unit movements):

Must admit i haven't tried any other than 2, i did 1 a little while back in the day but that was way too primitive. 2 is just right. I did try 6 demo version, it took me 15 minutes to install it, then i spent 30 minutes getting through the settings, and the text is so small that you need a magnifying glass to read it .... then my motivation went away and i scrapped it.

I just stick to 2, it's perfect.

I have tried other versions but still only play MPGE, and very rarely TOT. I bought a new fan-less Win 10, 32-bit mini pc that I have hidden behind my big screen to play on, but it does not work for LAN play.

So, I have been buying older Win 7 32-bit laptops and recently setup an isolated network so my sons (12 yrs.twins) and I can play LAN games. Right now, we are playing Hotseat when my wife is at work (nights) until they get some better skills and experience. I made a new map based on Pangea with good starting locations for all Civs. I let my boys pick my civ and they chose the Vikings because of all the civs they had the worst/most challenging location, on a large island chain in the pacific. To keep them from getting frustrated when one brother sabotages the others Great Wall, 2 turns before completion (which happened and he nearly cried and stopped playing), I told them it was the 3 of us vs everyone else. After we win, I expect the 2 of them to go after me. At which time I plan to save the hotseat game and change it to a LAN game so they can strategize together. However, I already plan to lose (but not too easily). In 2011 I made the mistake of playing chess with my older stepson, but I did not let him win...ever. He soon did not want to play and still does not want to. It is one of my mistakes as a parent, wish I had learned it earlier.

Should I end up in a nursing home someday, I already have my days and nights planned.

Hey guys, out of curiosity I was randomly reading a bit the civ VII section and I had the feeling that none of the "old guys" of the forum (me included) were commenting on it (and of course I include myself). I have this feeling they all are kids on their 16.

Is it because as I think, Civ VII is nothing but the same s.hit as previous civ games starting from Civ IV and all the clones such as humankind and millennia and crap like this?

I feel naive sometimes, but for me civilization definitely died after the number 3, despite I tried several times they never caught my interest at all for all the reason we know.

Civ2MGE remains the game we love.

A civilization game without workers. Instead, the computer can do it instead. As if AIs can self-replicate and get things running from the beginning of history.

I stopped with Civ after vanilla IV, meaning no expansions. I played it a year or so ago and I enjoyed it (Leonard Nimoy! voice overs), except I think all the detailed Religious stuff, ick, and maybe some other features along those lines. The only regret I have for not getting the expansions is that I now can't attempt some of the Civ IV Mods. Still, I find Civ IV is more like Civ 1-2-3 than Civ 5-6-7.

At the risk of causing a newly spawned thread, can people in this here thread comment on what was their turn off regarding Civ IV?

I tried to answer this in a civilized discussion (without the normal provocations by Civ 4 fans, who at every time shout out their very disputable postulation, that Civ 4 should be the best version of the civ series), why Civ 3 players "stayed with Civ 3" here:

I started reading your comment and immediately recalled our conversation about this, then was shocked to see that that was what you were actually referencing!

There are actually 3 Civilization Series, here is my take.
1-2 is the first series with 2 probably being multiple games by todays standards.
3-4 is the second series with 4 being the better evolution IMO but that seems to be subjective if you look at conversations about them. If nothing else 4 displays much clearer on modern monitors.
5-7 is the third series with 5 bucking tradition by being the best.... at least for SP play. 6 is purely an MP game with SP tacked on and 7 seems to be the inevitable end evolution of this. This series actually seems to be progressively targeting younger and younger audiences as it moves along.... with the leaders funnily being basically pouty children with random temper tantrums at this point. They are shifting as hard as possible with Civilization as an inclusive service it seems. They started off with 5, took a wild turn with 6 and now 7 seems to actually be 6.5 the same way 2 was actually 1.5. I would like to divorce 5 from 6 but I cannot honestly do that.

Maybe they will actually fix the mistakes they made with 6 but I highly doubt it.... and boy did they make a lot.

TBH I think the reason for CCM existing is to fix Civ3 more than to enhance it..... and it was pretty broken and confusing when they stopped patching. It's a game I mostly dislike... but I also keep coming back to it for some reason. Nostalgia perhaps I dunno. That said though, CCM actually makes it playable for me.
