Thanks, there also 2 other bugs that can cause the game to crash and have been corrected (for the next version).
Future Tech will indeed disappear from the screen.
@ TLC : posted a message that strangely did not show. Anyway I will take a look at that possibility of having the African techs in another era. I did that for the Last of the Mohicans but failed to do that here. I know some resource issues could be troublesome but I will check today.

As stated in another thread I am sorry but my PC is under the roof and the heat was so strong here I spent as little time as possible in front of the PC (and in these parts of the forum too).

This has been a great game. So far I have played as Germany. Its nice being neutral and just watching every one else fight.

I made a new map for this as I thought the cities were way too close. Also added railroads with limited movement (Flintlock Mod!). The biggest change I did however was splitting the Boers into the Orange Free State and Transvaal. I figure this will make it much tougher on the Boers, but that’s how I like it. I am picking the Orange Free State Civ, which puts me right on the front lines with the Brits. Well let’s begin…

Week 39 1899
I’ve got my units ready on the border and we’re looking to attack Kimberly, Colesburg, Stormberg Junction (VP location on a hill) and Ladysmith. I’ll leave Vryburg and Mafeking to our brothers up north. The march begins, all units cross into Brit held territory.
Week 40
In the south the Walls of Colesburg were destroyed, we killed 1 Militia and took the city!
Sent the Cavalry to the Stormberg rail junction and after a couple of Cavs retreated we did kill 1 Colonial Inf to take the VP location! Sent 2 Boer Inf to hold this hill.
Week 41
Killed a Zulu Army unit near LadySmith but lost 2 Cavs in the process. We’re pretty much screwed now at Ladysmith, not enough units. Time to retreat back to Harrismith.
In the west we killed 2 Militia while losing 1 Cav and the town of Kimberly is captured!
In the south, decided to send a Boer Inf to De Aar to see if it’s capturable.
-Spotted around 3 Brit units running around De Aar.
Week 43
In the south, moved 5 Cav units to De Aar and attacked anyway despite the bigger Brit force and killed a Gatlin, Brit Cav and Militia to take the town!!!
-Killed an Impi at Harrismith after Zulu attacks.
Week 44
In the west I decide to march to Prieska with Kimberly feeling safeish. There are 2 more northern Brit towns (Vryburg and Mafeking), but I think the Brits there will be busy defending against the Transvaal.
3 Zulus killed near Harrismith. I was hoping the Transvaal would be fighting these guys more than us.
-Arrrrrg, lost a Boer Inf and the city of Kimberly as it was deposed by the partisan citizens!!!
Week 45
I diverted the Cavs going to Prieska back to Kimberly, where they killed a Brit colonial Inf and recaptured Kimberly! Forgot to divert the cannons and Inf, so they are moving ahead to Prieska. Oh well, let’s see what happens.
-Large Brit force attacked the Stormberg Junction, we killed a colonial Inf but lost 2 Boer Inf and Stormberg VP was lost.
Was hoping to make the Brits bleed a bit more than that on this hill! The Colonial Inf unit has 7-7-1 stats, so very formidable compared to our Boer Inf unit. Also, it looks like the Boers cannot build any Cannons!!

Cannons arrive at Prieska and there is only 1 Militia unit defending, attack with Boer Inf and take the town!!

Lots of activity in the east around Harrismith, with losses and kills, but I feel I have enough troops to defend the town.
-Several Brit units marched around De Aar bypassing it completely to arrive at Kimberly by using the railroads! I should’ve taken them out when I saw them there.

Ugh, I think Kimberly will be lost, there’s only 1 injured Cav unit defending there now. Sending Units from De Aar to save it! Killed a Brit Cav and Inf, but lost a Cav on the road to Kimberly. I may be able to recapture quickly, if I lose it though. Starting to see more Transvaal Cavs around Harrismith, finally just need to get the pesky Zulus off of me, to free up some of those units.
-HOOOOO AAAAAAH!!! our lonely Cav survived the Brit Cav attack in Kimberly and the city is saved!!!

I just noticed the Transvaal have taken Mafeking! There’s only Vryburg, as the last Brit town north of us.
-Battles around De Aar, a lot more Brit units now approaching the city…
Week 3
Sending a couple of Cannons to De Aar from Prieska, hopefully they arrive in time to make a difference!
I’m losing too many units! I cannot keep up this attrition! Especially since each Boer Inf cost 1 population and I can’t build any Cannons!
-Uggggggghh!!!! Lost a Cav and 3 Boer Inf units in the Brit assault of De Aar while only killing 1 Brit Inf unit and the town was taken by the Brits along with my 2 Cannons in there. I can’t afford to lose Cannons!
-Around Prieska we lost our escorting Inf and 2 Cannons who were on their way to De Aar! Damn, I just have 2 Cannons to defend the entire Republic.

Attempted to take back my Cannons, but they were used against me and my Cav had to retreat.
-The Brits are now using the railroad from De Aar to Kimberly to move a bunch of units quickly. Now there’s a significant force of Brits at Kimberly.
Week 5
I’m spread too far and can’t get any units up to Kimberly to reinforce in 1 turn, this city will almost surely fall now, too many enemy forces nearby.
The Zulus have gone quiet, probably the Transvaal is given them hell, Finally!!!
-As suspected we lost an Inf and Kimberly falls to the Brits too easily, now they turn their attention to Pederburg, which is the only town standing in their way of my capital Bloemenfontein!
Week 6
Okay I have the Guerrila tech and can build some Invisible Kommandos, although they have weak stats 4-1-2, they are All Terrain as Road and Invisible!, maybe I can use them to destroy some rails and slow the Brits down.
I did notice Transvaal has taken Hlobane from the Zulus!! Hopefully they can finish them off. They should as the Orange Free State is taking all of the hits from the Brits!

-Brits bypassing Pederburg and going after the capital Bloemfontein!
Week 9
Lots of battles around Bloemfontein and Pederburg. It is getting very dicey!
But just as we’re losing all hope I see 5 Transvaal units cross in from the north and they are heading for the Brits in Bloem!!!!
Week 11
Been sitting back as the Transvaal units take over the fight in the Pederburg-Bloemfontein corridor. But man they are fruitlessly getting mauled attacking the Brit Inf! With their 7-7 stats we have no units that can be their equal in attack or defense.
Week 13
I’ve completely cut off all railroads south of De Aar and Colesburg, hoping this slows down the Brits! I’m going to keep sending these Kommandos further south to destroy more of the rails! Transvaal keeps taking a lot of losses around Bloem, but it’s just enough to hold the Brits back from launching another big attack on our capital.

Brits sending more troops to the east at Harrismith. My last 2 Cannons are here, and we’re blasting anyone who approaches. What a difference to have some Cannons at our disposal! I need a resource called European something to build Cannons and it’s only in German, Portuguese and British territory, very far from the Orange Free State!
Week 20
Attacks on Bloem and Colesburg have stopped, the destroyed rails have made a big effect along with the Transvaal units that keep pouring south. The Brits are now appearing to concentrate their attack on the east at Harrismith, with 5 units in the immediate tiles over.
Week 21
Noticed a Brit near Springfontein and upon further inspection I stumbled upon a force of 5 Brit Inf.
-Never mind, The Brit force near Springfontein now has swollen to 15!
Week 22
All Transvaal units in the south suddenly turned north. What the hell guys!!! We’re in this together!!
Week 23
Looks like the Brits near Springfontein appear to be headed to maybe Bloemfontein again.
Week 25
Just noticed the eastern Transvaal towns of Barberton and Komatipoort are under English control, who knows how long they’ve had them, but no units from the Transvaal are showing up anymore. These towns are far from any Brit town, so not sure how the Brits were able to take them.
The large Brit force in my territory is randomly moving everywhere, I have no clue where their next attack will be.

The Brits are definitely bypassing us and going north as I just noticed Mafeking has now been recaptured from the Transvaal. My only hope is the Military Alliance tech to get everyone in on the Brits.

2 Cannons recaptured near De Aar by our Kommandos!!!They were just guarded by a Colonial Infantry on the road from Pireska to De Aar. But now I have to get them back to safety! I haven’t really seen any kind of Arty use by the Brits so far. A big lull, as we are now just reinforcing our towns and the Brits keep heading north. The Transvaal just lost the town of Klerksdorp.
-The Brits are now swooping down from Klerksdorp into our northern towns of Kronstad and Welkom.
Week 36
Man there was a fierce assault on Kroonstad, but we held our ground and kept the town! The Brits scampered off back north to Transvaal.
Week 39
The town of Prieska was attacked leaving only an injured Kommando to defend. I moved the Kommando out to save their lives and let the Brits walk into the undefended town. There is now a large Brit Cavalry Hoarde heading in the east direction, threatening to cut off the north and south Orange towns.
In the east the Brits have taken over the rails from Kroonstad to Harrismith as they rushed in from Natal colony. Harrismith sits on a hill with 2 Cannons, which is why they are bypassing it despite it being a VP location.
Ugh, the Portuguese signed an Alliance against the Transvaal, so the Brits now have that tech and we’ll probably be at war with everyone pretty soon.

Major assault on Perdeburg by the Colonial Inf, lost many units, but am going to reinforce soon. In the south I let the Cav hoard reach our rail lines then went in for the kill! Now they’re all switching north. I’ve noticed a Zulu town is now British, hmmm maybe their at war now???
Week 45
Another huge attack came to Perdeburg and once again lost many Elite Boer Infantry and Cavs defending the town. But we also made the Brits pay a heavy price as well! Sending reinforcements again!
Week 48
Well the Brits haven’t stopped their attacks on Perdeburg with big numbers on every turn, but it is costing them a lot!! Their numbers have dwindled down significantly in this area now through the attrition. Although not completely finished I’m calling this a WIN in The Great Battle of Perdeburg!!!
Week 49
Arrrggg, the Brits do have the military alliance tech. They now signed allliances with the Small African States and the Germans. The techs have been exhausted and we are not even halfway through the minimum turns yet of the scenario.
VP’s are 30,500 to Orange Free State and 32,430 to England. I think I can win this game on VP, due to the continued slaughter the English keep receiving attacking our well defended towns!

Appears the Africans are at war with the Zulus and they’ve only sent 1 unit to attack us. They are staying away!! Destroyed a contingent of Portuguese units at Bloemfontein, their units are weak 4-4-1.
My strategy against the Brits, is to just let them advance all the way to our railways, then pick them off 1 by 1 with our own Cavalry and return them back to the safety of the towns.

Transvaal took back Klerksdorp. But the Africans have taken Springs and Johannesburg. I signed a peace treaty with them which also triggered the end of the Transvaal fight. I’m thinking I saved Their lives!!
-Big attack on Bloemfontein from the Brits! I’ve not seen any Brits on the east side at Harrismith for a while now. Not sure what’s happened over there with the Brits.

Germany declares war on England!! The Transvaal now have the Military Alliance Tech!!

Small African States declare war on England! This is going to be huge as they have a large force spread throughout!
-Brits are now scattering around our territory as they don’t know what to do with front lines now extending everywhere!
The Transvaal has taken back Klerksdorp and Mafeking! The tide is turning!!!!
I’m going to take this chance and see if I can take Kimberly back!!!

I have 4 B Inf, 2 Cannons, 7 Boer Cavs and 4 Kommandos outside of Kimberly! Just about my entire offensive force here. Also spotted German units nearby too along with injured Brit units.

Kimberly wasn’t as heavily defended as I thought, helped that the Germans were bombing it with Cannons. We killed 2 Colonial Inf and captured the city!
Which is now a size 10!! Going to clean up the remaining units here and try to push south to De Aar again too!!!

Johannesburg has reverted to the Transvaal, no doubt this was a culture flip.

Portuguese declare war on England!
Bunch of Transvaal units including artillery have been pouring in pass Harrismith to attack the Natal colony. They have Howitzers and Gatling, I’m guessing is trading with Portugal to get the European Weapons resource. I can’t trade with Germany because the roads have been pillaged by Kommandos earlier on!

Komatipoort has been captured by the Africans from the Brits. This was a former Transvaal town.
I’ve now successfully shifted 2 Cannons, 3 Boer Inf and 7 Boer Cavs to outside of De Aar. This town doesn’t have a VP so I’m expecting a quick victory like at Kimberly!
I’m following the German units out west just in case any their arty gets captured! And I can get it and steal it!

Cannons hit nothing and several Cavs redlined but retreated. So a bit tougher than Kimberly but still killed 2 Colonial Inf with no losses, plus I got my 2 Cannons back that I had lost a long time ago!!! De Aar is once again a Free Orange town!!
So now, I don’t see any other easy targets, as I’m concerned about overextending, so I’m going to take it easy for a bit.

Germany signed peace with England, so I then gave them 350 more gold coin to keep the war going! Okay nevermind, if I don’t fight I might lose on VP’s so decided to send units to Harrismith and see if I can start advancing on Natal.

Brits lost Prieska to the Germans, Isandlwana to the Transvaal, but have captured Mokhotlong from the Africans.
Portuguese declare war on Africans. The German AI is using artillery very effectively. Makes me wonder why the Brits aren’t using any themselves?!?

Africans captured Ladysmith from the Brits! It’s taking a while to move my units to Harrismith as the Transvaal crowding the single rail with their units!

Germany declares war on Transvaal, not good at all. We are supposed to be brothers in arms!
Africans capture Dundee from the Brits. My units are now in Natal Colony and get a closer look and noticed a humongous stack of 52 units in just one square, holy shiiiiiiiiii!!! The Small African State civ is a power in this scenario. I’m going to have to break them apart to their respective civs, or they will overrun everybody.

Just calculated, there are about 90+ African units just in the Natal area fighting the Brits!
The whole of Natal is crowded with units and no easy way for me to get to the front. I’ve decided to send these units back to Harrismith and wait until the situation clears up.

Still concerned about the close VP race, so I’ve decided to take some units to the south! I’ve been building up a significant force now that I haven’t been fighting as much. Feeling like I can go toe to toe with the Brits now.

Appears the Africans are at war with the Zulus and they’ve only sent 1 unit to attack us. They are staying away!! Destroyed a contingent of Portuguese units at Bloemfontein, their units are weak 4-4-1.
My strategy against the Brits, is to just let them advance all the way to our railways, then pick them off 1 by 1 with our own Cavalry and return them back to the safety of the towns.

My military forces have swelled since the Brits went on the retreat!!! I’ve decided to go for Middlesburg and perhaps Victoria West. I’d previously cut off the railroads to these towns, which should keep the Brits from reinforcing.

And we’re at war with the Africans! That didn’t take long. I still have a big Cavalry force nearby and I send them to attack Ladysmith and Dundee. To my surprise the Africans did not have a lot of units in the actual towns, I was able to take both with minimal losses!!
In the south, I’ve got a big force as well and take out some Colonial Infantry with no losses to capture Middlesburg from the Brits!

Transvaal takes back Springs, but loses Isanhlwana to the Africans. In the south we start moving to take Victoria West. The Africans are not attacking our cities!! They are moving pass the newly captured towns in Natal.

Victoria West was defended by a bunch of Brit Cavs, not even 1 Colonial Infantry! I lost a Cav in the attack but successfully took over the town. I’m now planning on sending a big force to Lesotho!!!
Because the Africans are moving out in the open, I just keep hunting down their units I see in Natal Colony where they are in grasslands for easy pickings. Definitely need to do something about this! I’ll up the African Warrior stats to 4-2-2 so they are not afraid to attack. It’s weird because they are taking out Brit towns who have even better units than the Boers! They also have a Hidden Nationality unit with better attack stat, but I’ve rarely seen it in action!?!? Might be better to take the HN tag out of them.
-Germany reached Transvaal land and now our alliance kicked in and we’re at war with the Germans again.

We’ve reached 2 towns in Lesotho including the African State capital for a 2-prong attack. In the town of Quthing our Boer Cavs overwhelm the defenders and take it from the Africans, very easy. Now the attack on the African capital Maseru was always going to be tough as it’s across the river and sitting on a hill, I sent Cannons to support this attack. I still lost 4 units in the Battle of Maseru but eventually did capture it!
With that, I contact the Africans for peace, as I need them strong to take on the Brits too. They are willing to give me 5 towns in exchange for peace! What a deal!!!!

Now I have a problem of a bunch of new undefended towns!

Sneaky Africans took back Hlobane with their HIdden Nationality warriors. Decide to give Amatongaland to the Transvaal before they steal that too! In the south I’m gathering a force to take the Stormberg VP rail junction. Although no rails lead to it anymore since my Kommandos pillaged everything around it.

We Captured Stormberg VP location, the Brits only had 2 units stationed there. The Black Rebel HN unit is causing havoc in the Natal. They are 5-3-1! Surprised the Africans did not build more of these units. They’re taking out more of our units now than they did in the actual war.

My military just got bigger and bigger could’ve marched all the way to Cape Town I bet! Would have been difficult to hold on if the Africans and Germans had not turned on the Brits though. Still confused about the Africans not sending any units to attack our cities whilst they had no qualms about attacking Brit towns with better Colonial Infantry units in there.
Scenario changes…
-Separate the African State Civ into different Civs, maybe the Basotho, Xhosa, Ndebele, Swazi, Tswana (Brit Allies in Boer version) and Khoikhoi. And put a lot of culture producing buildings in their villages.
-Hidden nationality unit for African Civs should maybe have that tag removed, so they can just build it. Or have it auto-produce at each African capital every few turns. Not sure, needs to be studied some more.
-remove the population cost for the Boers in the Brit version! So the AI doesn’t drain itself of people.
-Bushvelt Carabineers who detect invisible were never built by Brits. Should auto-produce in Boer version then.
-African Rifle unit who are 5-3-1 were never built and but these are slower than the HN Black Rebels? So no reason for the Africans to build. Need to change their stats or something. Should upgrade from the Warriors too.
-Howitzer and Gatlin units are twice in there for each Civ to build separate. This is why I couldn't capture any, as they would just get destroyed. The only other difference being the cost, cheaper for Boers.
-Why are Brits not using Arty? Can't figure this one out, as they should.
I should play the Brit version before doing all of these changes and probably read the whole tread too.
