The Capo's LH Gallery and Self-Help Thread!

Damn Capo, you really are rusty.

It's a new program, leave me alone! And I've been making units damn it!

Besides, it was never my technical knowlege that was good, it was always the "artistic" aspect of it I felt best at. Once I figure this out I'll be putting out good LHs again. I'm confident in that. I'm not too worried about it.

Oh, I thought you were laughing at my troubles. Which would be mean, and would make me sad.

Anyway, Igor may be right about why Cetshwayo was screwed up. I did try to use CFK's Xerxes because the chin looked like a beard, and my plan was to use Cunhambebe (mainly because he is shirtless and I think his animations would fit the leader) as Cetshwayo, but I had to resculpt his head (Cetshwayo's head is more square-shaped while Cunhambebe's is more round), when I saw CFK's Xerxes I figured the work had mostly been done (all I'd have to do is make the jaw look more beard-like and give him hair) and it would save me a lot of time (to me resculpting an LH takes the most time), the opposite happened there. I'm not entirely sure what the problem with Dido was, apparently I had brought in a skeleton that shouldn't have been brought into the mix, but I don't know (if I knew I wouldn't have had problems), and I think I also exported/imported models with the wrong settings.

In any event, I'm hoping I have finally learned to get everything right (and I have certainly learned my lesson on using custom LHs as bases for new custom LHs... again  ) so I'm hoping to have more success with the next LH I am working on, which is Solomon.

You may ask, "Capo, why are you working on so many Leaders at once when you haven't made one yet and have screwed two up already?!?!" and I'd tell you that I have to make fifteen LHs for my mod so it doesn't really matter how many I make because I need to finish fifteen of them in short order. In the end I make leaderheads because I want them for a mod or a module (every LH I have made, with the exception of Cersobleptes, which was a request, will be or has been in either my mod or modules). If you are wondering why Dido isn't finished yet since Ekmek posted a working Nif it is because I still wanted to add an effect to her.

The point of that tirade was that I am going to release some LHs soon, but I don't want to jump the gun and I think practicing on a bunch at once is good because I can see my progress and because it keeps it interesting. Anyone who has made LHs knows how frustrating it can get sometimes, especially in the learning phases, so in my experience its better to put something off if it isn't cooperating with you and come back later. The reason I explained all of this is because I was going to post a preview of my reworked Solomon. As usual the texturing is by no means final, but this is the generic concept of his head. I changed his hair from Darius' to Peter's (which I will reskin. I used Den's crown, but removed the top-piece from it, I lightened his skin a little bit and I made his nose look less Native-American and more Semetic (at least I think I did). I plan on using Darius' shirt (reskinned) with Tachnechobrus/Logan's "cape" thing over his left arm (that will also be reskinned of course). This LH is based on the Arawak LH, who is holding some type of staff. I am considering changing this into a sceptar, but I am not entirely sure what he does with the stick in the animations (since I have never seen it happen), so if someone could enlighten me on that it would be very helpful to me. I know it's a small preview but what do you think so far?

Looking from the side, the nose does look Jewish.

Is he wearing eyeliner?!?

Yes he is, it was a common practice of leaders in that period of time and that region.

I thought only the gay-ass Egyptians did that.

The Egyptians may have originated it, but it certainly was common for rulers to not only don "eyeliner" but to wear make up in general, particularly when they were meeting with a foreign dignitary. I think it was so they looked more divine or something, but it is pretty common and while I didn't actually read anything specifically saying that Solomon wore make-up, I'm pretty sure the ancient Israelites followed suit. I mean Solomon had 700 wives (supposedly), so one would think he was cosmopolitan.

I don't think it's possible to have 700 wives. That would mean he would have to deal with 700 mothers-in-law.

Well, I think the majority of marriages in those days were tantamount to political alliances or at least a means to prevent war. So I'd say dealing with the fathers-in-law was probably worse.

EDIT: Didn't Solomon wear some type of ring that was, supposedly, used to conjur up demons that he controlled or something like that?

Remember that though many ancient leaders may have had several hundred wives (and apparently the Chinese Emperors had several thousand concubines, so I've heard), that didn't mean you had to sleep with each one, or, for that matter, even give them a hug at all. Oftentimes, the wives would just be there, and if they never really interacted much with you during the marriage or concubinage, tough luck for them. The wives/concubines either were political tools (i.e. marriage to foreign princess for alliance kind of thing), or there for the king/Emperor if he felt like it.

Also, make-up for men was and probably still is a part of many cultures. One may also note that in movies, actors have to wear make-up too. :)

Also, The Capo, I like your new Solomon - I used the old one as David in my mod - but I was just wondering if he'll remain shirtless by the time he's completed?

No, I gave him some proper clothing this time (see attachment). Ekmek has a really good David already too BTW.

Ekmek's was pretty good, too, but I prefer your Solomon (no offense to Ekmek, of course). Good to see Solomon won't be going shirtless. :D

Should I do anything with the staff? Like turn it into a sceptar or something or should I just get rid of it? I don't really know what the animations do with it so I'm not sure where to go with that one.

EDIT: I'm actually almost finished with this one (I literally started it like ten minutes before I posted that first preview shot, so I'm a little amazed/worried with the quickness here), if this doesn't work I'm going to get pissed off and then go drink myself into oblivion.

I mean it'd be great if you can somehow find an animation that works with the staff... But otherwise I myself would rather just get the LH done and play around with the staff later. Although you could try to attach it to his back, even though it wouldn't make sense at all...

Don't bother with Agueybana's stick. I checked all the animations and he does nothing with it.

Mazel Tov!

FINAL-:):):):)ING-LY! Solomon did the trick! Once I get him reskinned (he needs it), and fix that weird crown texture issue I'll release him. I want a new background too, I didn't like my old one that much so if anyone wants to help me out on that a little that'd be great (because I gotta leave in like an hour... to go drink myself into oblivion...) I have attached an image in NifSkope, of the successfully NifSwapped Solomon (he works in game too fortunately). I was going to go with the cliche blue and white Israeli colors, but if anyone had some good ideas on a better skinning I'd appreciate that advice too. I am going to completely change the way his shirt looks though so it doesn't look like an exact copy of Darius'. What do you guys think?

And about the staff: The staff is part of the base LH, so I assume it already has animation for it, I just don't know what that animation is, so it may not make sense with Solomon.

Strange, when I went to bing to search for images for his bg there was some kind of Hannukah (sp?) motif going on. That's very strange... is it Hannukah or something?

It is Hannukah right now.

Anyhow, I think keeping the blue is fine for the guy; in my opinion, maybe you could add in some more gold embellishment here and there, if you think it'd do nicely. But regardless, he does seem pretty nifty.
