The Chronicles of the Next Empire

First: is this the way you can reach peace?

Second, some reactions on your statements:

It is common knowledge that France was seeking a 'master' two turns ago. It is our understanding that the Calanthian's deliberately delayed accepting their vassal offer by a turn or two so that they could maximize their own gain in the situation (ie marshaling units to attack and kill GD units and taking for their own 'Maastricht'). They have sent no units to help France. They have let the French capital of Paris fall.

We were surprised by the WEGD attack on France, before you even ended your war against the dutch. Indeed we waited one turn before we made our counterattack, as Calanthian troops had to move into position. It is no use to make an understaffed attack against a numerically superior enemy. Still we knew we had to do something to stop the WEGD war machine. The best way to do that is do a good attack which the WEGD must react upon. Maastricht was the only option.

Furthermore the French territories are quite some distance away from the Calanthian core countries, so of course it takes time for troops to arrive. And your claim that I let Paris fall is ridiculous: it is 3 tiles away from your territory and 20+ from mine: how in earth could I have saved Paris?

'Liberating' is the wrong word. They kept the city. That is called occupation with the hope that the GDs will do the Calanthian's dirty work for them and totally subsume the Dutch. If the Calanthian's meant liberating, they would have returned the city to Dutch control. I am sure that was an option presented to them by the leaders of that city.

Who exactly is subsuming the dutch? Now tell me..
Furthermore: I am prepared to return Maastricht if the Dutch ask me to.

And it is good to hear that the WEGD will not continue it's push into France.
Then the Calanthian attack has it's first results.

(but I want to see it before I believe it)

Game forwarded. I am looking forward to seeing the turn next time to see the Calanthian's match their actions and words.

ruff paraphrase said:
don't want war, liberating cities, helping nations in distress, etc

So far, I must say that I don't see a very good match.

Reports have reached our Capital from the new front with Calanthian and, as unfortunately expected, they illustrate perfectly the Calanthian approach. As previously implied, the GDs were testing the waters, trying to gauge the true Calanthian intent. We left a brand new city undefended next to some threatening, state of the art, Calanthian units. The test was to see if they would match their words ...
we do not want this war
... to their actions. Unfortunately, they did not. They spitefully invaded and sacked that city ... totally destroying it before it could even report its founding to the WE capital.

As an ancient ancestor of mine would have said ...

[tab]Yellow man speak with forked tongue

Further to my observations regarding the total disregard illustrated by the Calanthian's for their new charge (the French), no Calanthian units have been sent into France to provide support. In fact, the only observable unit movement are French Great People that are obviously fleeing to become useful tools to their new French Overlords.
Spoiler :
I am starting to believe that the French now realize that they placed their trust in the wrong power ... maybe they should have tried harder in their dealing with the WE.

Indeed we waited one turn before we made our counterattack, as Calanthian troops had to move into position.
Yes, this is true ... they waited until the opportune time (for Calanthian, not France and not the Dutch) to launch an unprovided, underhand and dastardly invasion of sovereign WE land.

Unfortunately, I have to report that the WE can and will no longer trust any of the words issued by the Calanthians. They will be judged based on their actions.

We have told you there will be no peace if you don't relinquish the French lands you control, and pay indemnities for the ones you razed.

Brilliant propaganda, to sell even a tactical mistake of the WEGD army as a test of the Calanthian word.

The city, rather a military outpost, was built only one cycle ago, on a hill near the Calanthian border. I sent a elite strike force to deal with this imminent danger. Just before my troops would attack your two musketeer divisions, they cowardly fled. So we outmaneuvred you and we are proud of it.

My men realize they must fight at the best of their abilities to make sure the evil WEGD empire does not rule the world.

Will be away for the next week.
