What do you do when you suddently find yourself bored of Civ3? I find myself in that exact situation...I quit games toward the end of the ancient age, even if I have a great start, because I'll be bored...

What do you suggest? This has been bugging me.

play on a harder level or else try playing some scenarios. Also, try to change your style of play a bit to challenge yourself.

Actually I just moved up a level...and I think it's the scenarios that got me bored of regular play! I suddenly have a lack of patience (which is a necessary attribute to play Civ3)...

Play community games like Tournament or Game of the Moment, Super Deity challenge, Hall of Fame. Name them!

I played a game of SMACx this past weekend, actually am still playing it between Civ3 games. Its interesting because when my economy wasn't doing too well, and social engineering wasn't helping, I lamented the lack of luxury resources for trade.

There was an entire period of months when I don't even want to think of Civ3. Still do a little now.

Do something different and put your game on hold. You're going to do strange things in your game when you continue like that.

the trick is to always try to improve..
You have a problem when you find Deity easy though :(

Try to get a game that will be radically different from your normal ones.

I usually played builder games on standard or above maps with max number of civs, but got a bit bored with the last half of the game.

I then started playing small and tiny maps as a conqueror - fast and furious games that gave me a new experience. After a few such games I started longing for the bigger empire again and is now back on a large map :)

So if you're used to pangea, try playing on an archipelago map. If you usually win by domination, try going for a cultural win, etc.

I get bored, too - extremely. The only solution is to set goals in the late eras. Capture an entire civ in 1 turns, build all wonders, win by histograph (a real challenge if spaceship is on)....

You could start your own GOTM with civplayers you know in person. Or, use governors to rule your city and automate your workers. That speeds the game up dramatically (but it sucks)

I'm getting bored bigtime...

The problem is the normal gameplay and the lack of surprises.
Later in the game there are some moments when you get little bit "excited" but otherwise game has came very dull to me.

I personally really wait someone doing good scenarios for the game and I think everybody should try different mods like that "Double Your Pleasure" -mod.

I have my doubts does MP give new steam to game for me...it's still the same game and if you know what is going to happen...

Maybe Civilization should have more micro-management afterall which could be automated and when you find yourself bored you could start organizing small details of every city...

I think Civilization should have random events that could "shake up and down" the gameplay...I mean disasters like fires in certain cities (burning down your harbor when you need it most) and natural disasters (floods, vulcanoes, earthquakes, tornadoes). This could make the game more interesting and would keep the player "busy" all the time. I think also the games politics of inside affairs should be remodeled so there could be civilwars and such.

Civilization is right now a game that is too easily controlled...whatever the difficulty level is really. Also I find those winning options (space race, cultural) be too far in the future so you would get start trying to get them in the ancient era. Only option is domination or conquest really...so you end up playing civilization just like any wargame.

Is civ really just a wargame?

Hey, it is a most interesting and unusual point you have raised here.

I must say, though I am totally addict to Civ3 as many people here, that sometimes I fall to the "Civ3 blues" too.

What everybody said here is very true: try changing something in your game to add some spice to it -be it playing scenarios, tournaments, even changing game. It does work.
But... wait... what if someday you still felt the blues?

Well. Then there is the extreme solution: quit playing for a while

Why, yes, it sounds very much like heresy to me too.
But then, how much time are we spending on Civ3? Deep in my heart, I know that the answer for me is just "(way) too much"...

Even now that I am writing this, I am but playing Civ3 in a more subtle way. The fact that I am writing from the office, during my lunch break, simply testifies to the severity of my addiction.

So, whenever I feel the blues, I almost take it with some relief and try to seize the opportunity to let my PC rest and, when I am finished working, try one of the following:

- Meet some friends
- Meet some girlfriends
- Go trekking
- Sleep (why not, from time to time...)
- Take a shower (see above)
- Eat (same as above)
- Read a book (NO! Not the Civ3 manual!)
- Any other crazy thing that come to my mind

Happy CIVving everybody!

I usually put it away for a few weeks because my games will just be lousy if not, I'll keep getting fed up and starting over and over. If I try a harder level when I'm suffering from burn out I'll most likely chuck the CD across the room LOL

It would help if there were random events you simply can not controll like civil wars and political power strugels. Otherwis eI would suggest going to an old saved game where everyone is a superpower and mess about, and try a different path to victory (think of all thoes "What if" Situaitons!) I find I have a lot of thoes!

I've got to try Conquering on Tiny maps, I never thought of that...
...anyways I'm trying my hand at making scenerios, that should occupy me for I while (I'm going to start one now, but I have to read a 300 pg book and school starts TOMORROW! )

Looks like everyone is answering about the same thing: try variant games or take a break!
