I just saw a Gato sub sink, and even though it was mine, it was pretty cool.

Also, I noticed the, I believe, Fletcher Class Destroyer occasionally seems to have an oil spill if it is not moved. It startled me the first time I saw it. I thought it was sinking or something.

Also, a question. I think I already know the answer, but cities can't culture flip, right?

Update!

After 6 months of constant bombardment from A-1 Skyraiders, F9F Panthers, P-51 Mustangs, a B-29 Superfortress, and various destroyers, Vladivostok is reduced to 210,000 citizens with simply a Field Gun to defend against the Yanks' assault. Needless to say, Vladivostok was overrun by American Infantry in Nov. of 1950.
On the other side of the globe, Havana, Cuba was assaulted by several divisions of U.S. Infantry and M-4 Sherman tanks, as well as a brand new bomber. The bomber is larger than any airplane known to man, and witnesses claim that it "blocked out the sun". It has been dubbed the Peacemaker.
After a bloody fight with heavy losses for both Cubans and Americans, Havana was taken by the Yanks. 2 major vicories in one month!
Rumor is spreading that peace talks with the WP are beginning.
IroquoisPlisken,

the Gato sub gfx are also used for the Amphion class sub also (UK, Canada, and Aust/NZ).

that is a stream of smoke that you are seeing on the Fletcher DDs. :D

yeah, no culture flips in TCW. i thought about ading it for 1.5 but we decided against it in the end.

those B36s are huge, i know. i like the fortify gfx w/ the little escort plane. very cool (Wyrmshadow unit).

that's quite impressive to take those 2 locations in just 1 turn!

Oh, so it is smoke. I was wondering why a destroyer would be carrrying oil.

I prefer not having to worry about culture flips, actually. Besides, I use MapStat, and it said Seattle and some other cities near Canada had over a 25% chance of flipping.

EDIT: Vladivostok has over a 700% chance of flipping!

I'd say that even on the higher difficulty levels the goal by the end of the scenario should be all of North Africa and the two african Arab League cities(which I expect to be a lot harder to crack.) The help that allied airpower gives can not be overstated. The downside is if you are accustomed to playing one of the bigger powers you will absolutely miss the hidden nationality troops and better hardware.
good points PriestOfDiscord. has production levels increased for you as you progressed? specifically, are you able to build enough units to sustain offensives?

Hi El justo,

I tried extracting the files again but got the same error. I will try and re-download the file to see if that helps.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks
yeah, i guess re-DL'ing the file again is the best bet. let us know when it works. :D

Will we have to redownload the main file for the larger map?
no. you won't. i should probably give an update on this one as well.

the Huge map is running pretty smoothly. there are a few things that are being tweaked as we move along w/ the testing. i haven't had much time to thoroughly test it but I_Batman has gotten well into the sixties w/ it. he reports that most civis are building large amounts of units and that battles are very protracted. however, turn times are creeping up as the months elapse. so, as a result of these long turn times, we've decided to break this big 'ole map down a little by making four different biq files:

TCWFifties
TCWSixties
TCWSeventies
TCWEighties

each will have a turn limit of 120 (exactly 10 yrs) and the VP scoring has been adjusted accordingly.

the benefits of using the Huge map like this will keep turn times at an acceptable level and also give the civer the chance to jump straight into the really fancy late-game hardware. alliances can be tweaked some depending upon the decade. plus, the massive scale of the map will offer a whole new range of tactical options.

below is a screen shot of indochina on the Huge map. it's sort of blurry but you can make out 5 locations for n vietnam, 3 s vietnamese cities, the loatian and cambodian capitals, and bangkok. i'm lovin' the scale of this map.

Re-downloading did the trick : :D

Have been playing since yesterday afternoon. Fantastic scenario.

I have stated off as China but there isnt too much room for growth. North Vietnam is an option but China dosent start with too many units with high attacking options. Guess I'll need to develop tech to get tanks and build an airforce.

I dont have a particulary fast pc but the turns fly by. Hope this continue as the civs develop more units but so far so good. :goodjob:

El you are not gonna believe this lol....

My whole computer crashed like 30 min after I nuked the crap outa russia...so I tried to do system restore...that wouldn't run...tried all I could.

Then I was told by my dads friend that I had to Dump The WHOLE hard drive...I was like no f'in way..

Well I'ma try to play again wish me luck

I continued my game, unfortunately it locked up. :( But the autosaves should give me back all but one turn. I won't report on the last turn yet, although I'll do things basically the same.

Anyway...

The United States Army, with strong armored forces now present in Europe as well as the Middle East, felt ready to fight a war. Efforts now focused on building up a larger infantry force, to hold liberated territory.

President Truman also worked to improve the domestic economy, bringing many additional manufacturing plants into operation. A dramatic overhaul of the IRS approximately doubled net tax revenues. (Tax collectors, yay!)

In May 1960 he spotted an emerging opportunity. Soviet forces invaded China, over-running border posts and heading for Beijing. President Truman conferred urgently with European leaders. Russia could not be permitted to conquer China, and there might never be a better opportunity to liberate Kiel.

European leaders were hesitant, but agreed that if Beijing fell, NATO would have to act.

In August, Soviet forces reached Beijing. The fighting raged fiercely for three months, with massive casualties suffered by both Soviet and Chinese forces. In October, Beijing fell.

In November, the USSR rejected an ultimatum ordering them to withdraw immediately from Kiel and Beijing. In response, US forces attacked Kiel. Supported by naval bombardment and heavy air support, they pushed Soviet forces out of Kiel. Losses were light (only 1 division destroyed) as Soviet forces in the city were surprisingly small.

In the Middle East, US forces seized Mosul, destroying the Arabs.

The Soviet counter-attack, with their army committed in China, mainly took the form of an air offensive. A powerful air force struck the US Pacific Fleet near Japan. Brave efforts by fighter pilots proved inadequate, and all of the surface vessels - including carriers - took heavy damage. Many fighter planes were also lost.

bkwrm79,

were you able to figure why the game froze on you

that's surprising that kiel wasn't defended that well.

was it the Tu 95 Bears that were showing up to bomb your fleet?

I ended up nuking a Chinese Infantry SOD near Urmuqui. Very effective it really crippled them.

Unfourtnaley the world declared war on me and I was attackd from all directions. Then the Chinese nuked Ulan Bator. That hurt it completly cut off the Far East from the rest of Russia and Chinese Infantry began swarming in.
The second rate powers really like their human waves of Infantry.

that's nuts silver!

post a screenie!

EDIT: yea, the lesser civis often build alot of infantry units. realistic i s'pose...

Hmm, the Iranian front doesn't look too bad...yet. I agree, though, the Chinese are a threat. Good luck, silver.

I've played some more of my USA game.

Nov. 1950 – Ismail Ashari of the Central Africans approaches the Americans with a request for peace. Truman refuses, however, knowing that Castro’s regime will be toppled if the war lasts simply a few months longer.

Dec. 1950 – Truman becomes even surer of his previous statement after the capture of Cienfuegos in December. Spearheading the attack was a division of the new M-26 Pershing tank, the first of which was completed late last month, which single-handedly destroyed a BTR-152 APC. The Americans took very few casualties (I lost no units) mopping up the remaining Cuban Infantry.
The Cubans attempt to retake the city later in the month with two divisions of Cuban Infantry, but fail miserably.

A peace treaty is signed between Japan and WP. Truman is extremely angry with the Japanese, for he knew it was only a matter of months before Castro would have been ousted from power.

Jan. 1951 – The radio is modernized and the “Howard Stern Show” quickly becomes a popular station around the country.
That same month, a successful espionage mission against the Chinese claims the secrets of the Atomic Theory.

Feb. 1951 – Breaking News! 2 United States Infantry who had captured, then guarded a Soviet airbase near Dresden during the war were kicked out of the country. Instead of returning them to the airbase near Paris where they originally came from, Stalin thought it would be more appropriate to drop them off over 4000 miles away in the desert between Soviet, Chinese, and Iran/Afghan/Pak borders. Learn more tonight during the 10 o’ clock news!

TCW_-_Stranded!.JPG

Those brave soldiers.

Mar. 1951 – Reporters have…well, reported…that the two infantry divisions have decided to seek shelter in Iran.
The British were caught attempting to plant a spy in Washington…this is disturbing for two reasons. 1, it means the British already have Espionage, and 2…even our allies are spying on us.

I have ended the war with NATO by nuking Bonn. That convinced the Germans to open negoations.

The Chinese war continues though. they just keep on coming with endless bloody amounts of Infantry.

Chinese_front.JPG

This has been a long, pointless and bloody war. No territory has been taken by any side. Only cities nuked.

Ermm, did I miss something, or is there a new huge card?
However I am nearly through with my Germany game. The first onslught was tough but I was able to turn them back and go into the offensive. In a series of tough fought wars, Soviets are reduced to only a single city on Kamshatka. Cuba was conquered by the US AI with AI problems but still they won. Central Africa is now also under German rule. I am now attacking with my Afrikacorps Egypt- from the South!
Some proposals:
Leopard 2 and M1A1 should have the same stats, in fact both have the same gun and protection. Nevertheless the German Leopard has a bigger range and does not consume so much (exotic) fuel (Diesel instead of gas). So a third movement point could be thought on.
I also propose to rethink the No German WW2 unit strategy: 3 Panther with 28.20.2 7 hp regular stats would be sufficient to build the first offensive units at the start. They are not enough to go into the offensive but you can use them wisely in defense and perhaps also in attacking cities in the very moment. Also on the sea I propose to give the Germans XXI type Uboats which are upgraded/ replaced by the type 209 uboats in the 70s. Also to give them perhaps the Prinz Eugen as CA would be good as well as the ability later to build a carrier. I mean nearly all other civs have carrier (although I know none was ever completed but...).
Sevastopal is indeed Sevastopol.
Kiel is now somewhere in Mecklenburg and not in Schleswig- Holstein. I propose again just to rename Amsterdam on the old map as Hamburg.
Taipeh has no rubber beacuse of the huge culture of Zhangjiang.
