The Crazed Vikings

Ok, then I'll take it. Dalgo, do you want to keep going with just the 2 of us, abandon it, or advertise for another player? I'll probably post the save later this afternoon and then we can decide where to go from there. Personally I'd prefer either the 1st or 3rd alternative, this one is going to be fun here VERY shortly.

Turn Log:
Turn 0 (550 A.D.)

Upgrade 2 Archers to Berserkers. Up lux to 10% and move archers that were in our size 8 cities over the main archer stack. Demand Theology and Chivalry from the Inca, and since they won't give them to us declare war.

Turn 1 (560 A.D.)

Trondheim Berserk>Berserk. Upgrade another Berserk.

Turn 2 (570 A.D.)

Get 4 Berserks loaded up, invasion to begin next turn.

Turn 3 (580 A.D.)

Stockholm Aquaduct>Temple. Upgrade another archer. Start the assault on Corihuayrachina, first Berserk redlines a pike, but dies (0-1), second Berserk kills a spear (1-1), and we get this:
GA.JPG

Third Berserk finishes off the pike (2-1), and we raze Corihuayrachina and net 2 slaves. Turn Reykjavik into a Pikeman pump because we'll need defense in the cities we capture/found on the mainland.

Turn 4 (590 A.D.)

Copenhagen Berserk>Berserk, Alesund Barracks>Temple, Reykjavik Pikeman>Pikeman. Upgrade another archer.

Turn 5 (600 A.D.)

Oslo Aquaduct>Temple, Hareid Settler>Berserk. Upgrade another archer(I love GA cash :D )

Turn 6 (610 A.D.)

Trondheim Berserk>Berserk. Upgrade another archer. Load up settler, pike, and 7 Berserks for another raid.

Turn 7 (620 A.D.)

Land settler with Pike escort, everyone else goes on to raid Andahuaylas. First Berserk kills a pike (3-1), second Berserk kills the other pike (4-1), and Andahuaylas is ours with 4 resistors. Start it on a harbor.

Turn 8 (630 A.D.)

Copenhagen Berserk>Berserk, Reykjavik Pike>Pike. Aztecs move a sword/settler pair towards the razed area, but I found Karasjok on the pink dot. Andahuaylas is at 4-7.5% fliprisk, so we may have to start razing, but I hope we can starve it fast enough.

Turn 9 (640 A.D.)

Aztec settler pair retreats. Finally some Incan activity, a galley and a MI come into view. Trondheim Berserk>Berserk, Stockholm Temple>Berserk. Upgrade our last 2 archers, so we can now start accumulating cash to buy/steal techs (it would be nice to get caravels...)

Turn 10 (650 A.D.)

^)(*&^(_^)*&^*)&%^%&*%$**&%%()*&%& (^*%(%*(^%*%(%^%^(%^(%^%$^%$#^$*#*^%$*&$(&*%^ (Andahuaylas deposed with 7 Berserks in the city) I don't think its going to be feasible to capture, I think we are going to have to raze/replace. Our dyes deal with Aztecs has run out, but I'm not giving them Invention for dyes. I have our retake Andahuaylas force loaded up onto the galley's, I'll leave it to Dalgo to burn that city to the ground since our culture sucks so much that we can't keep the cities. Reykjavik is our best food town, so possibly have it and any other city that is size 9 or higher build settlers and build Berserks/Pikes while waiting to grow again. Karasjok is at .5 to .9% fliprisk, so the sooner we get rid of Incan culture influence near it the better. Start Bergen on a Temple, didn't realize that it didn't have one yet. The loss of dyes has forced lux up to 20%, but we are still rolling in cash.

The Save

Good work, our Berserks are finally in action. Bad news about the flip, I guess we will have to raze until we get into the core and cut their culture down.

We should try and get a couple more players. Anyone out there want to get in on the action? To be frank, I don't really think we can win the game from this position but we can have fun trying. I'm out of town for a couple of days. If no-one else has taken the game by then I'll play when I get back.

:bump:

Anyone out there interested in going berserk? :D

Its been a week with no takers. Dalgo, do you want to keep this going or call it dead?

I admire you dedication to this game. I may not stay the course with only two players - but I'll take another 10. Got it.

By the way - do you know if it is possible to get a leader when attacking directly from ship?

Not sure, never had it happen (mainly due to not doing many amphibious assaults), but I would think it would be possible.

Thanks for the info madviking, I'll be sure to leave a spare seat on the boat. Want to join the game? With your name it should be a natural for you.

We've been playing sets of 10, so if you want to finish your 10 feel free to do so.

:wallbash: can't count

Roster:

Dalgo - Up
General Mayhem - On deck
MadViking - Just played

That was quick madviking. Looks like Cuzco is our next target but that will be a land attack. I'll build some settlers to fill in the gaps.

I've got it.

Pre-Turn: Have a good look round the map. Trondheim is 25 spt! Hill mines are certainly impressive in a GA. The invasion fleet is scattered but the best approach to Cuzco is from the west where we can land on mountains. Rush a few berserks. Hareid can’t grow so I change to worker, then aqueduct. MM other towns. Turn music back on :)

Hit Enter.

IBT – Trondheim: Berserk => Berserk
Bergen: Berserk => Settler
Copenhagen: Berserk => Berserk
Reykjavik: Berserk => Settler
Oslo: Berserk => Berserk
Hareid: Worker => Aqueduct

Turn 1 760 AD: load up the galleys with berserks and head for the west coast. Re-direct some workers and then – Marco Polo :lol: Nice one madviking.

Turn 2 770 AD: 10 berserks land on mountain range west of Cuzco. I hope that’s enough. The Incas have re-established one of their towns. I send a couple of galleys that way before it can be reinforced. I also land a couple of berserk on a hill to intercept another settler pair.

IBT – The Incas attack but the action is too quick to follow. I go back and change preferences so I can see what happens, and replay the turn. An MDI attacks an elite berserk on a mountain; our berserk is redlined but wins. (I thought they’d be safe there, probably should have brought a pike along). Two MDI attack the berserks I’d dropped on a hill. We win one and lose one.

Turn 3 780 AD: Our berserk army treks through the Andes to the outskirts of Cuzco. I send some reinforcements south from Karasjok in case they are needed. Meanwhile we attack the new Incan town from the sea:
Vet berserk v’s reg pike – win
Vet berserk v’s reg pike – win
Juli is destroyed
There is an Aztec settler pair in the area, if we don’t claim this territory someone else will. I rush the settler in Bergen.

IBT - Our 2/4 berserk that sacked Juli is attacked by a 1/4 MDI (aggressive Incas!). The berserk wins and is promoted.
The GA is over and Trondheim riots. I missed that :blush: I’d been running lux at 10% but it will need to go back to 20% Trondheim is our largest city so I change to a Cathedral.
Bergen: Settler => Settler
Reykjavik: Settler => Berserk

Turn 4 790 AD: Two galleys pick up a pike/settler pair each and head south. The battle for Cuzco commences:
Vet berserk v’s vet pike – win (redlined)
Vet berserk v’s vet pike – lose
Vet berserk v’s vet pike – redline pike but lose
Vet berserk v’s reg pike – win
Vet berserk v’s reg pike – wins unscratched and promotes
Elite berserk v’s reg pike – wins unscratched
Vet berserk v’s 2/4 pike – wins unscratched
Vet berserk v’s 1/3 pike – redlined but wins
Cuzco is destroyed :goodjob: that’ll hurt their culture!
Our reinforcements from the north just fail to cover the redlined berserk

IBT – We lose two berserks to MDI.
Stavanger: Berserk => Berserk

Turn 5 800 AD: An elite berserk takes out an Inca settler pair. 2 more free workers. I land two settler pairs of my own. I hope the Aztecs hold off settling for one more turn. The berserk army heads back towards the boats, covered by a fortified pike this time.

IBT – Two Aztec towns are settled, blocking our path through the peninsula :( We were just too late with our own settlers. An MDI kills our pike but I had covered it with a berserk to protect the settler. Another MDI and a longbow threaten.
Copenhagen: Berserk => Berserk

Turn 6 810 AD: I build Vadso in an attempt to make a path past the Aztec town. Doesn’t work. The Aztecs are definitely next for :ar15: .
Vet berserk v’s 2/4 MDI – wins and is promoted
4/5 berserk v’s vet MDI – wins, just
Vet berserk v’s vet longbow – wins and is promoted
The remaining healthy troops escape to galleys. The wounded units retreat north towards Vadso.

IBT – Oslo: Pike => Pike

Turn 7 820 AD: Embark the last of our troops and head off. There is an Inca galley in the way and I have an empty boat so; reg galley v’s reg galley – loses. At least I took 1 hp off it so it will head home.
Alesund is about to riot so I rush the temple.
I check for trades. We can afford to buy Theology, Chivalry AND Gunpowder. The first two aren’t much use just now but Gunpowder would be useful if we had saltpetre. There is one way to find out. I shop around and the best deal is from the Iroquois who give me Gunpowder + 110 gold for contact with the Aztecs and Maya. I take it and ctrl/shift/M shows – no saltpetre. The nearest is in Aztec territory.

IBT – Alesund: Temple => Galley

Turn 8 830 AD: Attack on Machu Picchu successful for no loss but I installed a new governor this time. If I hold the town for one turn I can rescue my victorious berserk, as the Incas don’t have horses. Attack on Ica is not successful and I lose two berserks to spears. I cash rush some buildings.

IBT – Vadso: Temple => Harbour
Stockholm: Berserk => Berserk
Hareid: Aqueduct => Temple
Bodo: Temple => Harbour

Turn 9 840 AD: Interesting – the first 2 culture points in Vadso took territory off the Aztec town. Machu Picchu survived and the Incan troops couldn’t reach my berserk so I sent a galley in to pick him up then abandoned the town. I renewed my attack on Ica. A sword and a spear were dispatched (as well as the injured galley) and we have a new town. I landed a settler before abandoning the town so I could build Farsund the same turn. This is an island town and will be useful for healing troops.

IBT – Aarhus: Berserk => Berserk
Maya and Iroquois begin Bach

Turn 10 850 AD: Start collecting ships and troops for next assault.

I’m not sure the best way forward from here. We could attack Vitcos next, but after that the Incan towns are scattered with their capital now on the south coast. On the other hand they will give us Theology and Chivalry for peace. If we do that we have to declare war immediately, presumably on the Aztecs. They will have muskets but no knights (where are the horses on this map?). If we do attack the Aztecs we could bring in the Maya against them, they would probably sign an MA for incense. We also have plenty of cash to spend.

Screenshot to follow.

I've got it, but may not get around to playing it until Saturday. I'll check to see when our incense for spices treaty ends with the Aztecs before declaring war...

Good point. It still has 9 turns to run. One problem we will have is that both the Aztec and Maya capitals are inland cities (as was Cuzco). We really should have used an archipelago map for this game.
