The Deity Challenge Line-up #32 - England

@Bimblecrumbs :worship:

I think when I finally get to this map (if ever) I'll go liberty first .. (won't beat your time but I like to grab good dirt when I can : ) )

Yeah amazing domV Bimble ! Definitely realizing that i took way too long to attack the other continents. Should have spammed a 2nd army from the get go. Really tempted to just re-use an old save and see if i can do better.

seeing bimble crush his enemies and see them driven before him makes me confident I can finish my game in under 200 with sufficient reinforcements

Thanks guys!

One must take one's time when considering Dom victories; I approach them like an extended chess game, playing them over a number of days (though I'm much better at Civ than chess...). That said, I don't think I could ever do one of these quick DCL Doms without reloads, at least not yet.

How do you upload saves? You're welcome to start with any of those screens (except NC I think, which was screenshotted and not saved).

Also it doesn't always work. I tried and failed to crack the Carthage DCL with H-C-A :)

@Kissblade

Spoiler :
It takes practice, but now I'm much more comfortable opening honour than tradition for a pre-industrial war.

The tech deficit can be countered with some of the following:
- Science cargo ships/caravans. I only send the first one with food to the cap. Unfortunately that meant a food caravan in this particular game.
- Buying 1+ Unis.
- RAs if possible as soon as you hit Education. Often it's a toss up between these and purchasing Unis though.
- Bulbing GSs, not planting any.
- Oxfording Dynamite/Industrialisation/(Navigation).
- Cities with observatories when possible

I don't consider high growth to be that important. My 22/15/15 pop cities were enough to get the job done, and I stagnated them by turn 160 or so if I remember correctly.

Happiness is less of a problem because your cities are smaller, and you have less of them (2-3 self built). To this end it's worth building scouts to occupy captured cities. Due to garrisoned units, honour actually gets more culture than tradition. I like this.

In this game, Honour probably netted me about 3000g more than Tradition would have; gold saved with mass unit upgrades (waves of galleasses, composites, knights, cannons) and the gold/kill finisher. Tradition only has Monarchy for gold, which would have given me +15/turn maximum by the end. Not comparable.

Also noteworthy is that you miss out on Monuments/Aqueducts. It's not so bad because these come at a less busy time in the tech tree; I'd rather have to build these earlier on and have much more gold to buy units later on.

I know I get better results if I force myself take a break and reevaluate all factors at least every 30 minutes but (real)time is an issue (getting lazier with old age :P ) so I just put in 2-4 hour long slogs without stopping too much to think things trough / notice all opportunities/mistakes .. In game win times suffer for this sometimes near autopilot type of play..
For the chess analogy is like playing with a chess clock :) .

Honor works better if you're doing lots of upgrades. My 10 Archers -> 10 CB -> 10 Longbows would have cost me a lot less on Honor, and might have been slightly more experienced, but still, my continent got blindsided and they never saw it coming.

The people overseas *seem* fairly weakened as well, my only problem is that they don't suddenly conjure armies out of nowhere :D

Lastly, you mentioned patience and I agree completely. If you're playing out your conquest in smaller chucks, the fatigue doesn't kick in and you will make fewer mistakes

It's simply that I don't have the time to play for long periods. I thought about the Industrialisation/Dynamite decision over for a long weekend during which there was no time for civ. I'm a civ fanatic and would play more if I could :)

Best of luck stormtrooper, make them war each other!

Well yeah, work has seriously limited by Civ time as well which kind of reduced me to maybe a pair of maps between DCLs

SIP for four city tradition. Things look much better than my last game, so I should be able war with LB and SotL this time!

Even though I started with LBs, I still could not close out a domination run until T355! Game was a lot stronger, no snipping with nukes and XCOM. Map was mostly red. This time screen shot focus centered on original 4 cities.

Since DCL 33 is supposed to be the 20th, someone can post a game if interested. Just say it here if you're interested to do it.

I can do this one. I'll aim for a Medium difficulty map and post it late on the 19th, EST. Did you have a civilization in mind or should I just choose from the remainders?

Well, I'm getting really close to winning. Only one cap remains but it's built to 85ish strength and it's around 190ish turns in. I have 5 arty units so far, fingers crossed :)

also Olodune, I expect you to return the favour for all the awesome trinkets I put in the Mayans map :lol:
