In unrelated news, I have an important question concerning the future of my DYOS contributions. This past weekend, Side 7 was made aware that it and several other art sites were victims of data scraping by one nyuuzyou, affiliated with several generative AI sites including a Chinese company, ModelScope. The situation has been a wake-up call for a lot of people and while being on DeviantArt I was probably already scraped long before now, this is the 'loss of innocence' moment that forces me to make a decision on how I want to proceed as a creative.
Being a collaborative cartoon with a longstanding tradition of remixing, I always sought to provide my pages in the best fidelity. While "AI poison" filtres are far from foolproof, some protection is better than nothing at all—but this will require hosting public copies in different quality from the master files, and while the days of C+P collages are mostly behind the current contributors, I wanted to gauge attitudes before I commit to a course.
As part of such a change, I'm considering following several artists' lead on Patreon/Ko-Fi and making "unedited" copies paid exclusives. I will, however, provide colleagues with master files as they may require.
