Would just like to hear peoples opinions on how they like the way the world of civilizations is going. I have been playing civs since the very early days. Infact i remember back when i was 11 and playing colonization on dos. i am very happy with civs 3 and play the world. and am looking forward to there next instalment.
Also tell me which of the following you have been playing recently.
colonization
Civilization
Civ's 2
Civ's 2 gold
Civ's 2 Call to power
Civ's 2 TOT
Alpha century
Anturim
Civs 3

Tell me any i missed.

after 2 its been all downhill.

It pains me to say it,but the series may be/is getting tired.

The only glimmer of hope on the horizon is the faint hope that 3 will someday be able to have some kind of events.txt.The scenario possibilities with the stuff in 3 will never happen without this all important ability

smash, have you or do you use the "if" "then" functions in civs 2?. i found using them to create a scenario i made a good scenario which imitated the final battle in lord of the rings 2, with special timed events like the arrival of gandalf and the timed death of certain caracters...

i have to agree with you though that in some aspects civs need a complete rewrite..u got any ideas on the kind of things they should introduce?

I started playing Civ II in the mid 90s. Picked up Alpha Centauri & Civ III but have yet to open either box. -- well, maybe next year. (This year I finally got around to Masters of Orion II & Heroes of Might & Magic I.) Haven’t seen/tried any of the other Civ-related products.

i have been playing might and magic 4 just now and loving it. i would recommend ripping the cover off that alpha century box.. it starys a little from the confines of civs and that adds to the appeal of the game. I personally wouldnt recommend anyone to go buy it but i wouldnt leave it sitting in its packing either. So open it up have a shot on it and tell me what you thing...just watch out for mind worms..(barbarians)

I personally am not a scenrio creator. Not real scenarios anyways. But there are literally 100s, if not 1000s,available for d/l.Most are darn good. Some are excellent.A few are all time greats. My favs are Red Front,Sparticus and Midgaard oddly.
I don't really have any ideas for future versions.Sometimes too many ingredients spoil the soup. This is kinda what happened in 3.All these neato new features and the game is..for lack of a better word..boring.

1 thing for sure is they need to bring back real trade, exploration and espionage. As you know if are not at war in 3,you really have nothing to do except hit end turn

Civ2 - great

Civ3 - good

all others a waste of time.

I play both 2 and 3(in ptw version) and like both they are just different. From the early info about Civ3 conquests it sounds like a lot of the scenario /mod people will find this more to their liking - perhaps more akin to scenario creation in civ2 .

Never played any other civ games. It is not hard to think of things which would liven up the game. One would be "terrorists", basically red flagged dips/spys that could bribe units and cities, poison water supplies, perform sabotage and (after Manhattan) nuke cities.

I believe the order goes something like this:
Civilization DOS
Colonization DOS
Civilization Win
Colonization Win
CivNET
Civilization II (Classic)
---Conflicts In Civilization
---Fantastic Worlds
---Multiplayer (UK only)
---Multiplayer Gold Edition/Ultimate Civilization Collection (Europe)
---Test of Time
Alpha Centauri
---Alien Crossfire
Civilization III
---Play the World
---Conquests

Civ2 is one of the all time great single player games. Haven't played it in awhile when I did I played it to death. Now for single player I'm doing Europa Universalis 2.
Multiplayer> Warlords3 Darklords Rising <strategy, Quake1 CTF
