They used to be able to build wonders, but that was nerfed waaaay back.

I had assumed that barbs couldn't build palace but could maybe build national wonders, like forbidden palace.

I had never heard of barbarians being able to found a religion or build a world wonder (or national wonder) before, though.

You can rest assured that if I were ever beaten to liberalism by the barbs i would be kinda mad.

Actually, I don't think it is possible for barbs to FOUND a religion, but if they capture a holy city, they do exploit the religion for happiness benefits. I've seen barbs create missionaries.

The best way to test out the abilities of barbarians is to run a Terra map, and seed the New World (ie empty) continent with two settlers, 5 workers, and 4 archers for the barbarians, and grant them all the basic worker techs. Give yourself a spy unit and keep it over there to watch them grow
