ı slowly climbed the stairs . Definitely in need of fresh air after a whole summer day's of being a "museum guide" in the basement . A crowd at the door of the museum . The night guard boosting maybe 3 from the museum's day security team , the other (male) museum guide , maybe one of the (female) museum guides and the (female) assistant director / art historian of the museum . The subject of their common derision , just a single guy facing them on the stairs at the door of the museum . And a female ready to burst into laughter against him . Didn't take many minutes to figure out that these last two were a couple meeting in the then fashionable front courtyard of the museum in like a date or whatever and the female quickly found a better option and was in the process of dumping her date and the dumped was facing the challenger . Until the time challenger proved he had a herd with him .


the challenger was a security guard . Handsome , well built up , brilliantly likeable . With a single issue of vacillation about something . If he had had a supremely rich father he would be on Televole everyweek , with a new love on each new episode . Televole being a magazine programme about the the sport stars and mindless rich . He didn't even want to score or anything , it was just about proving himself . With the minimum wage + an additional fee as museum staff , he was below the strata where relationships are a lark , the girls he would charm (and he could charm aplenty) would all talk of marrying . Almost immediately . He was that likeable . And there he was , breaking a relationship with glances and little smiles . My problem was that he was already quite serious with the girl in the cafetaria and ı had to find a reason not to be at their wedding , considering he was prowling quite a bit around me , unsure to do what . Made the scene quite unworkable , with the assistant director totally enjoying the thing . Security guard providing a supreme show ; her Tigers afterall .


she should have been concerned ; but then the girl in the cafetaria did not count as a tiger afterall . Certainly not her tiger . Despite the thing that many months ago there were two of them and one was sent elsewhere in the catering company network . No doubt because the security guy was trying to see whether he could run two things at once and it was creating issues and the number of visitors had already gone down ; there was no need for two girls in the cafetaria ... Museum guides would have to be valuable , with memorising everything on the show , sorry , in the museum . Day security was a lower but still important rung . In interaction with the visitors , they would directly make an impact on the reputation . Cleaners or cafetaria people ? They had no place in the weekly or monthly meetings . Totally replaceable in contrast to security that might be . Or guides hard to replace . r16 being the irritating enigma . A broken clock shows the correct time twice everyday , the saying goes . A fool ı mostly was , but could turn out to be right at awkward moments . A fool ı was ; unable to understand the mocking from the guys who would just wet themselves laughing as soon as ı turned my back . And there was the inevitable visitor unhappy at the treatment he got and he would be like loud enough for me to hear and ı could soothe out things . Somehow . Now that he would mostly be some otherwise non important person who discovered he could shout at people who couldn't shout back .


the guy's insecurities stemmed from such moments . He had had no one to tell him grown ups lied all the time . When the opposition didn't back down after his initial flare up and he just couldn't punch people in the face because he would be fired to end up in a factory or workshop if he was lucky . Where the possibilities of such flare ups were astronomically higher . Stuck in a vicious spiral he would selfdoubt , selfhate , selfwhatever . He had to be regularly taken out of fights ; he once said he had served informal time for attacking a superior while in compulsory military service . As a commando where he was naturally exğected to show the emotions and attitude he couldn't quite hold under full control . He just had to accept he would still be a man if there was this little doubt , almost fear , perhaps outright fear . Kept under control , not to be shown but still there . Something professionals needed most . Which the professional knew he/she needed to survive . For too much confidence gets people into situations they can not get out . He was man enough to be security , he should have learned he would still be a man , if his weekly or daily opposition did not back down in an instant , for like he had been aggressive or whatever .


the assistant director didn't like the verdict . Coming out from the mouse r16 was . Mostly because the guy would start something really big one day and it would like escalate out of proportions , far beyond the tastes . An attack on one of her tigers , from somebody who clearly wasn't . ı was about 10 years older than the other 3 guides . My brother ran the health department of the municipality at the time , he volunteered me before the opening . As the only one speaking English (however broken) r16 kept the official translator out of ordinary daily stuff . Lonesome r16 kept the basement when the security guard on daily rotation needed a cigarette break . ı could stay in the basement a whole day without any issues . Which tended to keep me out of daily or weekly meetings at the office of the assistant director . Or indeed , the totally informal chats , in the cafeteria , or at the door , or the security booth . Bonding a team together is important , many times it involves jokes against outsiders . And ı was an outsider . By that summer of breaking relationships with smiles , it was already clear ı would be like gone when this museum competition thing was over .


nobody liked me , down to the contractor company thing which we were officially contracted to . Directly working in the state makes one real hard to fire , if a contractor hires you and than lends your service to the state organizations it is far easier . My brother left the municipality , not because of A-K-P but a better pay would help the education expenses of my niece and nephew . On the very next morning the contractor company officials collected 8 of us (4 guides , 4 security guards) to talk about reforms to come . That things would change and a discipline to come down to the workforce . Seemingly solely intented for me , like because the mo-r-on r16 no doubt was like this because his big brother would protect him . But no more . Except the company official left unhappy ; ı guess he didn't find the fear and the doom he really expected to see in the eyes of r16 . So , that was that and so it would transpire . r16 serving in the tattered uniforms of the previous year , because he was an idiot and the museum was so generous to employ the handicapped . Certainly not because the laws stipulated a percentage would be given jobs . Definitely not because the conditions of the competition required love be shown to fools and whatnot . There he was , r16 the idiot , with the tie really showing up threads coming out , the idiot who didn't like the new uniform and toiled in his old . And of course , ı had been the one to translate the conditions from English to Turkish . Including showing love to the idiots . With particular stress on how the judges valued human interaction with the visitors more than any fancy restaurants they might have been taken by the administration . Of course the final judge was taken to a fancy restaurant . So that his time in the basement could be limited , lest he would talk too much with r16 the idiot . You know , this was about the time the lovely banter of r16 being a spy gaining much currency ; and they wouldn't want a discussion on why ı was the sore thumb . With an old uniform .


the guy , the final judge , seemed uncomfortable . When shown an icy r16 the second time he descended into the basement . The first one had been cut short with an invitation to see a performance by a youth theater or something where the actors could not beat a kid who joined or something and danced as "well" as them . The judge was immediately summoned upstairs again , this time to the restaurant with people who could talk English ...

time to talk grand strategy or something ... 'Coz it's gonna be complex and confusing . Hooligans do not make good soldiers , those who do are merely souls who had lost their way . But immensely "useful" , especially in the opening phases of a civil war . This 2004-5 period being the time the plans were changing . There were the 4 "greats" , fans of teams that had won the championship title of the first league as it was called back than . People supporting them could be found all over the country . Trabzon fans hailing from the Blacksea would support any "Blacksea" Goverment . Galatasaray was more open to businessmen from Anatolia , them Anatolian Tigers , half of them crooks that became rich with stealing tax returns with fake exports . Fenerbahçe had been quite mixed up with the old regime's elites and military . And the PM was supposedly a prospect in Fenerbahçe , as a player on the pitch/field , a Turkish Beckenbauer if you are to believe the Party propaganda . But his father did not let him , so he gave up , went into business and later politics . Opposition says PM's football skills are way overrated ; his extented family status meant he would play a big role in Blacksea and then countrywide politics . That's why he didn't become an imam , laws of the education were ignored and he was enrolled in an university before spending a full year in an ordinary high school after graduating from an Imam Hatip as per the requirements of the time and his place on a local football team was a result of the requirement to have him placed somewhere so that he could get a salary while conducting politics . He might have kept them unders check . This requirement was the first break that happened between him and the Congregation , he was too lax at a time when Congregation wanted Fenerbahçe destroyed with match fixing charges ...

that left Beşiktaş . Back at some time directed by a former intelligence person who really didn't want the embarresments that could be provided by the fans . Meaning due to lack of available people from the Right with enough "culture" , Beşiktaş fan leadership has been kinda Leftist . As would be proven almost a decade later during the Gezi events . After a first spark , Beşiktaş fans followed the calls for mobilization and without much doubting of their leadership , pointblank charged the Police , throwing them out of the Gezi gardens ... They kept vigil , protecting people who were to save the trees but could not (or maybe would not want to) face the gas canisters and rubber bullets and watercannons . They would also stop "anarchists" stealing the the thing . Their power thus proven , naturally the Al Crusading TV of Qatar provoked them to march onto the PM's working offices in an Ottoman palace , behind a bulldozer or something . So that real bullets would fly . Syria is important only because it will provide the supprt areas for the Civil War here and those ex-BBC people CFC people might have seen on TV screens are far too pacifistic when one knows enough Arabic to follow Al Jazeera in its natural style pertaining to the "Arab Awakening" period ... Whatever remained of the Old in intelligence apparatus finally convinced that leadership to pull out , so that there would be enough gay pride flags and seperatist pieces of cloth making their way in to make sure the people would see this was nothing but a riot in Taksim .


there has been an attempt to create an "Ottoman" Beşiktaş which went nowhere . Always seen as a fake attempt by the Party to break the hold of Beşiktaş fan leadership . Football fandom requires long times on the road and around the stadiums , fights , alcohol , more fights , far more time . Those Congregation members smart enough to pull strings of a dozen different groups who could always violently clash with each other while wearing the same club colours were no doubt needed elsewhere . Lesser Congregation members would loose discipline or cause leaks . The Galatasaray "team" had been infiltrated , creating a possibility of millions of fans following . Fenerbahçe would be worked upon . Trabzon was expected to follow the interests of Blacksea . This indeed left Beşiktaş and at the interests of a rapid civil war planned at the time (like in Pentagon) led to a possibility of clash between fans , which could lead to a massacre of the said fan leadership . If and when cornered , say in a gas station during an away game , with little help from traffic cops . Rapid promotion or whatever then creating a more flexible and amenable fan support ... for Congregation interests . During the Civil War that would soon explode out of nothing . Everybody in the country knows a lot of Fenerbahçe officials could have been arrested for match fixing claims and outright street battles with one killed were fought between Beşiktaş fans and yeah , people from the big city nearby . The reason for this final choice is a little history . Beşiktaş would be some sort of Byzantium while the great city would be some Ottoman thing cleansing the country from evil . Only difference being those fan events came long after Washington decided not to start a Civil War and chose to bring Democracy to this country instead ...


uh , where was ı ? Yeah , the subject of being endless jokes at the museum as Congregation was choosing fighters for a gas station . A test run to give a police record to a guy to scare me with long knife (so that he would be known as a crazy so that his butchering some Armenian guy from Istanbul in town for a Beşiktaş game would not be that deeply investigated) ending almost in disaster , because the guy would have really preferred to cut me , just for the reputation . As the whole city obviously hated me , talking so much and so on . These old guys taking an interest in me is not that much of accident , you see ... Because ı am a graduate of the Anatolian High , this way or the other , with enough awkward moments in the 7 years ı spent fulltime there . And enough Congregation smarties to dismiss me over the years . Like also graduates of the same .


they came in echelons . The one selected and groomed for foreign service in the previous post ? She was the vanguard , ı understand she didn't even visit the museum but did the terrible Turkish thing . ı have never been told which version of her has been more imposing ; the East Coast Executive or the laidback West Coast Money Spender and yeah , gotta be a Blonde ... All she had to do was speaking the local language atrociously to state she was "indeed" foreign and the people would race between them to tell the latest and greatest r16 story . Lady Vader was the second . Alone , speaking perfect Turkish being one for starters just like the first , but still noticing the fun they were once again having inside the museum behind my back . Ripples in the pond to be noticed . "What are they doing here?" being the question that suddenly creates the doubts in the minds of jokers , many of them in the security business , all of them having seen tons of voluble idiots during their careers . Could ı be ..?


the other male guide was a fan of the footbal team of the great city nearby . He was providing the fun in many meetings , bringing in a few of his pals . He practically put the crosshairs on my back with causing the main dispersion of the inside joke of r16 the spy across the city . But he wasn't the one that specifically claimed ı was a retired execution squad person (like what , at 32 ?) Which led the seperatists to send a scout to check for the claims and discover a spot to lay a bomb . Which led to a true alarm and security team practically running around in the museum with civilian cops arriving en masse . My male colleague did not have the sense to understand what that could have led to ... He was also there where it gained even more official status . Lord Vader had naturally refused to provide any kind of lobbying on behalf of a coup in that 2004-5 period . America was getting bogged down in Iraq , there would be extremely conflicting views in Washington and frankly the old guys doubted this then new Turkish Armed Forces could fight its way out of a wet paper bag . With ever increasing numbers of Congregation in it . The Army that half tried to get some of them killed in '74 , or the one that tried to get them arrested around the 1980 coup declaring them to be Commies could control the situation . The one that did the February 28 thing most probably could not . Even if it was still imposing enough to get the seperatist leader out of Greek hands with like a threat of all out war , if Athens fancied that in '99 . Lady Vader going around a museum was surely not about its kinda paltry collection .


so , the male museum guide came down the stairs one day and told me that we would be on alert because some high ranking general would visit the museum . Uh , ı would be down in the basement with surely the more dedicated female guide would conduct the tour with the remaining two [more polished] guides taking care of the rest and r16 would keep out of the way ? Like , where else ı would be ? Hours passed and nobody insight and ı went UPSTAIRS . Asked the guy what was going on . He smiled his usual smile , that talking to idiot r16 smile . Went down , within the hour was called two floors up , to the management . To meet the angry director . Who the hell ı thought ı was , asking the name of the general to visit when the museum was not told at all . Yeah , he knew a captain in the Jandarma who would make me eat his excrement to say the least . In return he got a look people sometimes get before they starting to smile ... a concerted effort for self control . Turns out the Military was point blank refusing to provide a name or timetable or anything . Male colleague was of course happy as usual . With hindsight of a chat taking place maybe a decade later between r16 and the old guys , he of course didn't know Ankara was debating to send a high ranking person , up to and including 4 star level , to talk to Lady Vader . Before that he would check me (not the museum) in person to have an idea to see whether ı was anything real . That is kinda why the museum was told the crew on duty throughout the day , instead of making the male guide laugh . If a fool ı could be wandering around . If not ? If this was the case , he would then consider a friendly chat . Or ignoring stuff so that there could be a game on par between a cat and a mouse or something , if there wasn't one going on already .


because it must have readily looked like that would be quite fair . If ı was an idiot he would then tell Lady Vader they had also noticed that the Congregation was plotting to start a full bloodfeud between football teams and yes , they would talk to the Police to keep r16 the idiot safe .


this is where r16 gets a place on the map .

as locals would have noticed over time , foreigners keep being around despite the local assurances that they are much better than whatever they seek by being around and get politely ignored . Nobody has ever needed Lord Vader before things get really ugly .

so ... People knew me , even if ı didn't know them . Suddenly ı was available as a target but it couldn't be like a simple phone call . Like they had to fill the final judge with tales of how big an idiot ı was , ı even thought myself as James Bond . Though ı don't personally know if that was ever mentioned . 5 minutes of freedom to the guy , because ı would simply show him the entrance and keep out of sight . He would check the gallery , and possibly talk to me again after coming out before ı could manage to direct him to the secondary gallery on silk production . Hence he was called out to the performance . Where he noticed the alarm in the players about the "sabotage" they were suffering . The rush by the performers to get the kid carry the stuff inside now that he had volunteeered to be a performer and the rush of the kid's mother to prevent getting him slapped . ı imagine they just wanted to question him whether this was a deep state plot to get them ... He was unhappy with icyness which arose inside me only because the brusque or something response ı had got from a previous judge , some museum director from Northern Germany . And yeah , he was still called upstairs before he could finish the full tour , both sides of the basement , lest ı could poison him with wrong and made up lies .


this is the background on how the football fans thought ı was a "legal" target . Encouraged by the Congregation . Informed by city wide talk . This is how ı was made into a spy when ı wasn't . With the Passive-Aggressive attitude grom the city . With people laughing and hating and making me the other so that somebody could get me and they would both laugh and reject they knew why . Quite at a time when you were in diapers .

Breaking up somebody else's relationship with smiles was glorious but he had nothing else to offer to that would be conquest of his . He was surely a lucky guy to get out with regard to his girlfriend thing early enough !

The oldest of the security guys (who would still call me older brother with conviction) was unhappy at the injustice or whatever to happen right then , whatever respect he had for me having grown just one bit higher , after the discovery that ı was right in that particular discussion and ı would be the first to be sacked , before him no matter what .


the workplace was indeed becoming unsafe . After ı got my orders to the new spot with no doubt talking to some Islamist of the kind on the phone . Who would have followed the Agriculture Minister of Afghanistan after stories of how ı was gay or something , for the fun of it . With the official mission of the visit like turning out to prove it ... This is something "Muslims" talk too much about , people suggest that's because of their own personal histories of gettting molested . ı went upstairs to see the assistant director , who no doubt expected to see me next time , after a few days , with a willingness to beg , instead of the manifest anger . Something kept me out of her office for about 5 minutes . She unfortunately had no relay of security feed in her room , otherwise she would have spotted me ... She came out all smiles to face 4 or 5 people sitting in the outer office , down to the librarian guy , no doubt to announce her tiger was coming back , the fool was going out and would never come back unless crawling on the knees and all the rest had to welcome the tiger with open arms or something . Everybody was not my enemy , ı don't think ı was an enemy of anybody and the 20 months ı spent there was not entirely wasted ... With still good memories of stuff , down to kids who would like what they saw in the galleries ı led them through , but her face at the discovery that people were not happy to see me go was the fitting end to my life as a museum guide .

After some other cafe was showing me the door and ı somehow got the inspiration that it was encouraged by a nearby supermarket , ı naturally went right into the supermarket and nobody showed me the door there . Translators do not do a sloppy job , they just make up things and when Americans passed a warning that the city observing r16 was really becoming to annoy Washington because Lord Vader was certainly NOT doing what he was supposed to and every question would get an r16 quote as an answer , the same translators ignored the news that they were to either do it right or stop . That's how ı saw one in person in all probability , him having his girlfriend right next to him , no doubt to jump on him as soon as they found someplace half secluded , you know , because he was so brave . She didn't appear she was game but that's not how the male mind exactly works ...

Like if ı could influence evil Disney for them to depict the PM beating the spiritual leader of the Congregation , don't you people think ı would have them to have something actually good or something , more like aspiring to be Rogue spread over three episodes ? My nephew in casual conversation today about what to watch on the net said he had seen the first two Disneys but never bothered about IX ...

so , after the post on Monday ı could have no doubt spotted at least 10 volunteers to beat me up . lnsisting ı have threatened the city about paying the price in a passage on how seeking trouble would bring people to a pass where the toll would be extracted no matter what and indeed a price paid . One guy discovering an idea that he is just like what came before and it is not worth it however he sizes it , becomes four ... That they can do it RIGHT NOW because anyone before them are wimps and gay but they are men . Despite the long passage about creating narratives that make people the other , the target in other words .

No doubt because the security guy was trying to see whether he could run two things at once and it was creating issues and the number of visitors had already gone down ; there was no need for two girls in the cafetaria ... Museum guides would have to be valuable , with memorising everything on the show , sorry , in the museum . Day security was a lower but still important rung . In interaction with the visitors , they would directly make an impact on the reputation . Cleaners or cafetaria people ? They had no place in the weekly or monthly meetings . Totally replaceable in contrast to security that might be . Or guides hard to replace . r16 being the irritating enigma . A broken clock shows the correct time twice everyday , the saying goes . A fool ı mostly was , but could turn out to be right at awkward moments . A fool ı was ; unable to understand the mocking from the guys who would just wet themselves laughing as soon as ı turned my back . And there was the inevitable visitor unhappy at the treatment he got and he would be like loud enough for me to hear and ı could soothe out things . Somehow . the guy's insecurities stemmed from such moments . He had had no one to tell him grown ups lied all the time . When the opposition didn't back down after his initial flare up and he just couldn't punch people in the face because he would be fired to end up in a factory or workshop if he was lucky . Where the possibilities of such flare ups were astronomically higher . Stuck in a vicious spiral he would selfdoubt , selfhate , selfwhatever . He had to be regularly taken out of fights ; he once said he had served informal time for attacking a superior while in compulsory military service . He just had to accept he would still be a man if there was this little doubt , almost fear , perhaps outright fear . Kept under control , not to be shown but still there . Something professionals needed most . Which the professional knew he/she needed to survive . For too much confidence gets people into situations they can not get out . He was man enough to be security , he should have learned he would still be a man , if his weekly or daily opposition did not back down in an instant , for like he had been aggressive or whatever .


the assistant director didn't like the verdict . Coming out from the mouse r16 was . Mostly because the guy would start something really big one day and it would like escalate out of proportions , far beyond the tastes . An attack on one of her tigers , from somebody who clearly wasn't . ı was about 10 years older than the other 3 guides . My brother ran the health department of the municipality at the time , he volunteered me before the opening . With particular stress on how the judges valued human interaction with the visitors more than any fancy restaurants they might have been taken by the administration . Of course the final judge was taken to a fancy restaurant . So that his time in the basement could be limited , lest he would talk too much with r16 the idiot . You know , this was about the time the lovely banter of r16 being a spy gaining much currency ; and they wouldn't want a discussion on why ı was the sore thumb . With an old uniform .
