The Fifth Game: Towers of the Amurite

95. Take the scientist off its work; settler production halved from 80 to 32. Turn research down to 70% to get some gold while still grabbing mining in 2.

96. Science down to 60%, +9gpt.

97. Mining--Bronze Working Max research and we'll get it in 30. Excellent, no copper in site. No wait, there is some. It's literally next to Flauros.

100. Plantation finished, but I didn't know we already had one plantation online (didn't pay enough attention to one of the reports). We don't need that extra dye right now and the commerce will be needed after we churn out that settler and another worker. Decide to farm one of the older plantations to get our second city founded faster.

103. Out 1 exp scout (what a champ) runs into Mokka as I begin to explore Odio's Prison. Cat and mouse game ensues. Irrigating one of the plantations knocks off a couple of turns from the settler, so send the worker west to chop a forest.

108. Chopping of a forest begins. Our scout down south is dodging Mokka but is still being pursued relentlessly.

110. Scout kills a wolf and promotes to Woodman I.

113. Well, things begin looking up. Orthus spawns directly at the bottom of our map... right outside of Os-Gabella's realm.

115. Scout successfully flees from Mokka, but I keep him fortified at the pass to see if he'll come up north. If he does, use our scout to coax him west. You can guess why.

If you need a visual to our vicarious attack of the Sheaim through barbs, here's a pic:

As for the rest of the land, I've uploaded a pic with the suggested city spots plus an eastern one. I say once we have four cities up, we pump out the swords and continue our beeline towards KotE and Honor.

To maintain some control over the variant, I'm not going to allow us to found any other religion. Sorry Dominicius, old boy.

Next player should play 25 turns to get us to the right number, then the rest of the team take 20 turns a piece until it gets back to me again.

Looks like you played the 25 turns already Dienekes, which is fine.

120: The settler will be ready in 2 turns, so I send a force of 3 warriors West to hunt a stray tiger that has been roaming the forests there.

Turn 122: The settler is ready and he starts west, towards the City1 site. I start another warrior because we will soon have two cities to defend.

Turn 124: The rampaging tiger is killed, but he takes down one warrior first, even though he was fortified on a forested hill. We get our 1st lvl 3 warrior.

Turn 125: I get a minor event.
civ4screenshot0018.jpg
In the end, I choose the 25 gp over the monument since we are so short on cash. Too bad the monument wasn't in our new city.

Turn 126: Udenarat is founded.
civ4screenshot0019.jpg

Turn 127: Yikes! Orthus is killed just outside the Os-Gabella capital of Galveholm.:scared:

Turn 128: Bronze Working is researched. I will start on a Training Yard and also clearing out the jungle to start cultivating the rice. We will need roads, so I start researching Exploration, which takes only 6 turns.

Turn 134: Exploration done. It is only 12 turns to Animal Husbandry, so I start researching that. We will need it for the pigs outside Udenarat.

Turn 140: All done.

The state of our nascent Empire.

Hmm, I inherited on turn 95 and ended on 115. It seems fromage needs to invest beakers into mathematics. ;)

So far things are looking up. Orthus being slain so easily is a bother, but I suppose it's better that way. A Combat V Orthus killing off Os and then tackling our meager units is probably a less desirable scenario.

Important: Fromage, good work overall. Next player, please put our scientist back to work at the capital. We may want to sneak in another worker once we reach the happy cap, too. Actually, another worker would do wonders right now.

Pictures in the attachments.

Turn 141. We get an event which says a gruesome murder occurred in Cevedes. We haven't got any money to patrol the streets,so we have to do nothing.

Turn 142. The killer continues his rampage, people flee the city. We get a -2 population and +4 temporary  is the city. Isn't that a little extreme?

Turn 143. I reconfigure Cevedes to stop growth, since the event temporary put it at its happy cap at 3.

Turn 144-46. Nothing interesting happens in the Amurite nation.

Turn 147. AH is discovered. The Caswallawn decides to introduce an education system in the Amurite nation, and orders his sages to work on it. (Education is on the way to Honor, and cottages are always welcome).

Turn 148. Our brave scout finally dies. He was running out of things to explore anyway.

Turn 149. Murris clan goblins spoil some inconsequential short-term jungle tile next to Cevedes.

Turn 152. Os-Gabella declares war, offended at my offer to take some anti-depressant meds.

Turn 154. Cevedes trembles in fear as the Sheaim's mighty troops rain fire upon the city.

Not.

I can't understand why someone on the FfH team hadn't told the AI not to use its scouts as attacking troops yet. It's extremely easy, and I've already done that in my modmod.

Turn 155. Momument in Urdenaat completed. The Caswallawn orders an Elder Council to be organized there.

Turn 157. I try to catch the only Sheaim scout who retreated when attacking Cevedes, but the little bugger flees back, to bring Os-Gabella news about the failed attack.

Turn 158. No news is good news.

Turn 159. An innovative farmer has developed advanced irrigation techniques on that farmed Dye tile next to Cevedes. Tell him to sell his extra produce.

Turn 160. An overview of our struggling nation. As you can see, there's a small barbarian expedition next to barbarian city of Deluoc, and a barbarian city had spawned south of the Pyre of the Seraphic.

Anyway, the Erebus mapscript sucks. The low food, the boring, unpassable mountain ranges...

Ouch! At least the rice will help to grow it back, but that is a harsh event.

Good God.

Sooner rather than later. The scout frenzy will hopefully give us enough experience to get our warriors up to snuff for our counter-attack. I'm sure we'll keep this war going until they send actual units that game can defeat our warriors outright.

Anyway, the Erebus mapscript sucks. The low food, the boring, unpassable mountain ranges...
I never find it boring... just that the AI never uses the terrain correctly and many of the dwarfs and sand peoples end up perishing without ever getting more than 3 cities up.

Dominicius said:
Nice try, Dienekes, but as you can see in your very own screenshot, you finished up on turn 120.
I just checked the screenshots. It is as most of my female friends say; I'm an idiot . That, and a beefcake.

I forgot that I originally saved a 115 file but ended up deleting it when I purged my save folder of outdated games. I shall place beaker research into optics. Or animal husbandry, because I belong on a farm.

Lone Wolf, did you not put a scientist back to work due to the -4 happiness situation? Also, well done holding on to our frontier.

Dominicius, unless it hampers growth significantly, put our scientist back to work.

Dienekes, that is not as clear as you make it out to be, IMHO. I didn't want to put our scientist back to work because it would have stalled growth completely. Now, with the rice on-line, the situation may be better, but we are far below the happy cap.

Things look good, here. Too bad about that event!

And Lone Wolf, would you care to explain why you picked +1:commerce: above +1:food: when we want to run a specialist in the city? I always pick the food thing myself.

And yeah, we want that GSage soon, because we need to go on a rampage with magic, soon.

A controversial decision, right, but our happy cap is rather low at that point.

Ok people, time to discuss a few things.

What do we research after education?

1.KotE,

2.Writing

3.Archery

KotE is a tech we will need sooner or later but the next GS is about 50+ turns away. On the other hand, we can survive without it for a while. Your call.

Writing is essential if we are going to beeline for Honor. However we will need both Trade (we have neither sailing nor horseback riding) and way of the wise (we don't even have philosophy) so essentially this will take us way too long and 90 of all these techs won't benefit us at all.

Archery is what I am personally leaning towards. It will give us 50% bonus on chopping (we will be doing this rather soon I think), lumber mills for our production city and will open up the path towards boyers and firebows (which are awesome).

There is also an interesting fact to note here. Flauros is at war with Os-Gabella (why wasn't this mentioned) and he has trade (played a few turns as a test, he got it on my third turn). Slowly we are getting an increase in relationships with him. We could try to further sweeten him up and then trade for the stuff we need. But this might be risky.

So I think such, we research Archery and go for Boyers. Wait for the GS to bulb us KotE and get trade from Flauros if we can get relations with the Calebim high enough.

Thoughts?

I like your thinking, Dominicius. I would have gone for KotE personally, but it is true we can bulb it soon enough.

Turn 1: Inspect our empire (hah). Switch some things around in our capitol to focus on growth.

Turn 3: Our capitol grows to size 4. I resign the GS. I also order the construction of a worker in our new city instead of the elder council.

Turn 4: The borders of our new city grow! Assign the worker to build the pasture immediately.

Turn 6: Event....

44873741.png

I choose the first. A +1 Armg counter is not that bad and we don't want to have any more chances for bad events to happen. (for those curious the second option gives a -3 armg counter but seems to imply the chance of bad things happening)

Turn 8: Education is in! Convert to Apprenticeship immediately.

Turn 9: Start Archery.

Turn 10-14: *yawn*

Turn 15: Flauros makes peace with Os-Gabella so I follow suit. The war has netted us a +2 relationship increase with him.

Turn 16: Fellowship FIADL.

Turn 19: Worker comes in. Capitol grows to size 5. Revelry has been cast.

Turn 20: Nothing.

91207834.png

Well this has been a rather uneventful turn set. Archery will come in 6 turns and I have also included two images that I thought most interesting.

As for the future I currently plan on having one of the workers build a road towards the Calabim kingdom so that we can get some trade going on. Someone should also probably research cartography in the near future.

As for the Pyre. I prefer to wait until we have at least a level 3 unit before we explore it. Units with high levels have hugely better chances of getting good results but I'll leave it up to you.

We might also want to capture some of the barb cities around us. Either for money, XP or just to expand our empire somewhat.

Playing the set now. I hadn't noticed that I was up until Dianekes II posted the roster, which is approximately 16 hours ago. Apologies if the delay's on me.
