The great global warming swindle

Just curious:

Let's pretend global warming is a big fraud. What would motivate people to perpetuate this fraud?

Money..........

Who will make money from this and how?

Open your mind. Lots of people stand to benefit

I'll make a short list of some groups who could benefit from pushing global warming

Scientists who need grants or have an agenda to push
People who sell "Clean Energy Credits"
The media who need another story to scare people
Politics- Kyoto, puts obligations on developed countries to curb their industry while other countries are not under equal obligation.
Alternative energy or clean energy technology industries

All kinds of people can benefit

I have seen reports that the Sun is heating up. And there is certainly nothing we can do about that at this time. But, given that we are dumping a lot of
C02 into the atmosphere through burning of fossil fuels, AND, given what we
can observe about Venus, I can't buy into the notion that "global warming" is a swindle. I am of the opinion that we should behave as if the C02 problem is real, and if we conclusively prove later that this was wrong, we have done nothing more than inconvenienced ourselves somewhat. On the other hand, if we behave as if the C02 problem is a hoax, and then find out later that we are wrong, we're somewhere between screwed and dead.

This has always seemed like a pointless principle. The "let's hinder ourselves every time there's a slight chance something bad could happen." I don't want to make a religious analogy here, but it's the same as "you should have your kids believe in god for their sake just in case hell exists." We could apply this to just about anything, literally. And, as the documentary shows, often this hindrance can mean life and death for developing countries.

Thanks ainwood. While I am skeptical of this, I pride myself on trying to be objective and witness both sides of the issue. I have the video loading now for later viewing.

In my opinion I believe the current global warming trend is by and large a natural occurance. Human being do have a great effect on it though; global dimming. It has been proven that humans are capable of creating enough pollutants to help block out the suns rays; the amount of these pollutants of been decreasing since the 1990s and as a result the effects of global warming are increasing as the effects of global dimming decrease.

And no, we shouldnt pollut the world to spare us from global warming; we've had periods in the close past where the world was much more warm than now, and the planet has pulled through basically intact each time.

This is no news here, people with common sense have known this all along. Global warming is just a scare tactic used by enviromentalists.

False. Global Warming is happening, but there is little we can do about it. We aren't going to destroy the world as we know it, infact, we are barely heating up the world at all from the data I have seen.

The media portray GW as a doom and gloom scenario, because its more interesting for viewers and has more shock value. You don't hear news about people who had nothing interesting happen to them, you hear news about things that will shock you.

The good thing about global warming is that it'll destroy human civilization as we know it. This may actually be a good thing. For instance, I saw in the news today about how a 100 year old woman got bashed for $33. All governments care about are votes and all companies care for are profits. Reach for the stars? Forget it. Pump that carbon dioxide into the atmosphere! Chop down all the trees! Pollute all the fresh water in the world! I will do my bid by wasting water, paper and electricity to help our cause of self-destruction.

Shakespeare, Mozart, Goethe et al have been great and they and many others will remain in my memory - we've had our moments - but we're on our way out and I shall cheer on heartily.

We are not doomed. Even if civilization as we know it is destroyed (and im not talking about the game), we will still survive one way or another.

People need to remember, or realise, that the global warming concern was first elucidated over ten years ago. At the time, there was little social or political incentive to believe such an idea, or to push such an idea.

People seem to think that we've 'discovered' man-caused global warming in the last 4 years, and now there's a raging debate. This isn't true. Climate change is more like the evolution problem than any other scientific issue. There are well-funded people who don't want the science to be believed, and there are other people who seem to think the GW is a partisan issue and have thus 'picked a side'.

Finally, people can wax on about how humanity will survive. No doubt it can. Climate Change will represent merely a drop of 6% or so of our economic growth rate (potentially putting it into the negatives; Google your country's economic growth rate to see where you'd lie on the chart.) due to migration and infrastructure changes. Of course, curbing our CO2 output to zero growth would still give us a positive economic growth rate ...

There is indeed very little we can do about it but we should still do it. An economy based on nuclear and biofuel energy is not difficult to achieve, and it the only way to go if the whole world wants to have our standard of living. Otherwise we will have dangerous, man-made climate change.

We are not on our way out. There have been many natural disasters around and mankind is still around.

We are not doomed. Even if civilization as we know it is destroyed (and im not talking about the game), we will still survive one way or another.

Like I said, waste away, pollute, and destruct. Water, and electricity are cheap anyway. I also hope for disease, war, and other things so we can have maximum chaos. It would be rather exciting.
