The Iliad

I have a proper army but I have placed it so that it could be used in any situation that it was needed. The fact that you took two directly one after the after without even giving me a chance to reply is certainly not fair. I have done my best not to DM, although I did not since I need to get some sleep otherwise. I would have been able to beat you back had I been given the chance to do so.

If DM's are allowed your army obviously wasn't placed well enough... If it was your city wouldn't be razed...

Just for the record, I did allow double moves in this game simply because I wanted to intervene as little as possible because I did not want to find myself in a situation of adjudicating/policing. Also, we did have a discussion about this during the game and the majority decision was to continue with double moves allowed.

There are 16 hour turns in this game, which means that if turns run to the limit then one in three will fall during the night for players.

Finally, while within the game "anything goes," I would request that players temper their comments in this game thread.

Bolkonsky. ;)

Surely there should be a reasonable time frame for a person to give a chance to respond to a players turns. Since I have not been afforded this opportunity, then you will need to find someone else for this game since I do not want to play a game where I have no chance of reply for my turn. You can clearly see that most of the other players have been trying to keep the turn order as is, since it is best that way, you even saw Toxo apologise for a DM. It is certainly unfair especially when you declare war. Had there been a declaration of war beforehand I would have been better prepared.

I find it funny how alot of hosts doesn't set any rules somehow thinking it is more fair to the players while in truth just allowing those that want it to exploits the clear flaws in the systems. Currently there are sooo many things that just aren't fair that actually work within the game system that it is neither funny nor fair to allow "everything goes". Double turns and half turns(multiple logins per turn moving different units every time) is only the tip of the iceberg.

Had I realised that anything goes, then i would have done damaging thins to Rycheman. The whole point of being a host is to intervene when things go wrong between the players. That is what a good host does.

The decision to have minimal rules, in particular allowing double turns, was not taken in the interests of fairness but rather because I did not want to end up policing. Prior to setting the game up I did consult others on the desirability or otherwise of doing this. There are advantages and disadvantages to having a rule and there is no consensus of opinion. We did revisit this during the game and the vote was to continue without a rule.

Personally I would like to see in future versions of the game an option to have true simultaneous turns, which would deal with problems like this and improve "fairness."

There was a power outage today. Normal Service has resumed. Apologies for any inconvenience.

All players should be advised that the game will be down from March 3rd or 4th to the 17th inclusive.

:cooool:

:wavey: The game has been taken down and will restart on Monday March 17th.

To all players:

In the last two weeks Real Life has intervened dramatically in ways I could never imagined. This means that I will have to commit more time to other things.

Regretabbly this means that I will no longer be able to play in The Iliad. Additionally, as I will not be playing I would prefer not to be hosting.

I would like to request that one of the other players take over the game.

I aplogise for this but I have an opportunity that I would be just too stupid to refuse.

Bolkonsky. ;)

Sorry to see you go Bolkonsky. But obviously RL matters take precedence. Thanks for hosting and good luck with your new opportunity.

I suggest that we declare Krum the winner and close the game. It is only a question of time anyway...

Well, I died in this game long ago; but I'm back to say that Bolkonski is one of the finest hosts I've encountered. He really extended himself for the sake of the player enjoyment.

Thank you very much Bolky, we need more hosts like you. And good luck in your new upcoming RL experience; I expect you will do just fine. :goodjob:

Yes, thanks to Bolkonski for being such a great host. :b:

I concur with Amh52 - Krum has the definate lead and should be declared the winner. For myself, I have maybe 1 or 2 turns left before my empire is history any way...

Yes, thanks to Bolkonski for being a great host, even though I only participated in such a short time. Good luck with RL.

I agree with Amh52 and Wittlich - Krum has a big lead and should be declared the winner.

I'm struglling with Rycheman, and my empire (what is left of it) will not last very long any way. Thank you all for the fun.

Why can't the remaining players just play it in one setting? That is only if bolonsky can still host for some time though... As if some other players in the game could host they would have done so... Sad to see hosts leaving as there are always need for more... From purely looking at the score pad i don't see what is wrong with everyone uniting to take down krum, but then again i am not fully aware of the situation ingame...

Great hosting Bolkonsky! :goodjob: And completely understand your reasoning.

I too am Ok declaring Krum the winner. I have lived very quietly in his shadow the whole game.

Thanks for hosting Bolkonsky! I agree with everyone else about Krum being declared the winner. He has a decent lead and has so throughout the time I've been in the game.

Oyzar - I am off on an island while everyone else is on one big continent, shaped like a fat reversed C, and while I may not be up on the latest diplomacy the position is roughly like this. Krum has a nice corner location in the north. He also appeared to be in some sort of tech agreement with Rycheman - and perhaps a none aggression pact or even an alliance with him. Either that or he is comfortably out teching 3 or 4 of us who are in a tech alliance. Toxo appears to be ahem 'fully embraced' by him too. He has devoured a few opponents already.

Most of the rest of us were in a sort of loose alliance. And we were losing. In techs and in battle. Maybe we could have got Rycheman to swap sides. But why should he? He was making good progress capturing the allies cities which may have enabled him to compete with Krum at the end.

Besides most of us would just have been king making. If Krum could be taken down then Rycheman (who had the main border with him) would win. Unless we all stabbed him in the back after he helped us beat Krum :) Then Bolkonsky would probably have won as he had most land and cities :( Unless the rest of us decided to then turn on him….etc....
