The Kremlin is not The Kremlin

They should have had the Kremlin with the whole cool fortress things, with the walls, Forts, Cathedrals, and everything.

Wouldn't it look cool if your city was surrounded by the Kremlin walls instead of ordinary walls?

Clearly, that in Civ IV the Kremlin is not a building, fortress etc. The Kremlin is a name for the sistem of opression created by bolsheviks. So true icon of communist's Kremlin is the LENIN'S MAUSOLEUM!

That bugged me soooo much how they had the wrong building (I study geography and skyscrapers/buildings)...

Umm... the name Kremlin means citadel, or castle. The Kremlin in Moscow was so named in the 14th century, and further expanded long before the Bolsheviks got into power. [src: wikipedia, so I'm sure someone knows better details]
The White House isn't a name for a system of democracy (or some other system if you consider the carte blanche wiretap order issued by Bush Jr.)
The Buckingham Palace isn't the name for the system of monarchy, and sometimes, imperialism.

I thought "kremlin" was a generic term used to name the walls protecting Russian cities. I suppose "the Kremlin" (being the one in Moscow) would make the average American think of St. Basil's Cathedral.

But in all honesty, it's not my thought people are stupid.

The building they used for the Kremlin is not the Kremlin :( It's a church located near the Kremlin on the Red Square (St.Basil Cathedral i think). The Kremlin is the fortification built from red bricks and the area inside...
Thanks. I never heard in before. Everytime I watch news report on TV about Kremlin, they always display St Basil Cathedral.... At the same time they always say the Red Square / Kremlin... But I never find where "the red brick wall" from TV.... (the Red Sqaure is translated as "the Red Wall" in Chinese.) And I can't understand why the palace is so small.... (Kremlin is translated as "Kremlin Palace" in Chinese.) Now I know....
(Well, I'm not from western, but HK)

Actually it isn't so much as "red wall", but more like "red (outdoor place)" Traditional Chinese link to Red Square in Wikipedia The words use for square in Chinese isn't wall, but more like an outdoor gathering place - in which it's secondary meaning could mean marketplace.
I think you'll get what I mean when you look at the link.

I can't believe there's people in the western world who doesn't even know what USSR is and where it is.

The way History is teached in some countries is even more shocking. Like Australia focusing just on Australian origins, and world wars.
In Italy the 20th century is 1/5 of the total school course. The other fifths regarding egypt, greece, rome, middle ages (in europe and middle east), age of discoveries (including America), french rev. and napoleonic era, industrial age (with focus on both Europe and Italy)

Well they are people that when asked what the model of their computers is, well they say "Windows XP" or "Intel inside". And these are people calling to tech support callcenters every day. Come on, you can find stupid people everywhere.

Edit: Can you name at least ten african nations and their capital cities without searching in google?

I can't believe the designers picked a picture of a beautiful cathedral to represent a wonder when they could have picked a red brick building. Idiots.

And those silly teenagers in America who don't know the difference between the cathedral and the red brick building! They're clearly idiots too, since the red brick building has played such an important role in their lives.

God, we must live in a world full of idiots. Good thing our knowledge of the difference between the pretty cathedral and the red brick building makes us smarter than them.

Yes, kremlin means citadel and there are many old russian cities with kremlins.
But IN THE GAME the Kremlin WW starts availaible since you discover COMMUNISM, not massonry, monarchy etc! It reduce hurry production cost and not produce CULTURE, just like the Pentagon and ower modern instituts!
So I think in Civ IV the Kremlin is the cold war term for Soviet goverment.

Doesn't this suggest some sort of global myopia to you? Don't you think that it shows the rest of the world who buys this game that Americans only think about America? Don't you think that, in it's small little way, Civ is perpetuating the feeling amongst non-Amercians about the way Americans think?

Not starting one mate, but you can see what I mean?

Sure I can but from a bizz stand point it makes since. I bet +80% of total game sales were American. I bet +95% of the people who worked on the Civ project are American. You want a game that is more global centric, then have a company outside the US create one for you! Besides if they did there would be the SAME built in NATURAL bias that you get in Civ, only from a different bias. Geee people get a grip, sometimes I am just amazed at the anti-American sentiment, and even more amazed at how much comes from Americans.
