The lack of a unique model for a unique unit from Great Britain is an embarrassment.

That seems fair. Not really sure how the conversation got past response of "oh ok" or "that kind of sucks" to go to ten pages. It seems like if this really angers someone they already had an axe to grind and this just seemed like a convenient new thing.
Even the people very enthused about the game agree that this shouldn't have happened, and that someone somewhere messed up.
On the initial screenshots we were all speculating that they wouldn't get a unique naval unit because they were all generic looking. Who knew this whole time we probably were all looking at a bunch of Revenges. :crazyeye:

For 10 pages though?

You're right. It's true that a lot of people seem very disappointed by this. Maybe it's yet another issue that stretches their tolerance beyond the limit. But it's also more ammunition for people who are dead set on slamming the game, and that's how the thread started.

I just find the crapstorm very interesting, partly because I'm totally unaffected. I don't like this DLC model, so I didn't buy the DLCs (woah!), but I'm enjoying the base game a lot. Maybe I just have too little time to worry about additional content when the base game would take me a while to squeeze dry. Whereas for some this is their only hobby, or even a second job.

At the same time, other people seem to waste a surprising amount of time (given how above it all and how busy they say they are having fun) to complain about how other people waste their time posting about how they aren't happy with the product. For the latter, I can at least sort of understand why they are on the forums instead of playing. Ultimately it's just human nature I suppose.

You can check my posting history to see how much I'm posting about this sort of stuff. It's a lot less frequent than you.

Okay, kind of rude, but I guess it's true I'm not really playing because I am waiting for some improvements. I didn't intend to get into personal attacks and was really just saying it's human nature we're dealing with.. it's not something only one person is doing. But sure, I'll assume you win the number of posts on the topic contest if we really need to have that sort of contest.

Depends on what you mean by human nature, I suppose. It's probably also human to have a limited amount of energy and attention to care about things.

And this is probably also a cultural phenomenon. For one, tribal identities have shifted towards more modern things (unlike, say, religion - though that's still very much alive). And since people by and large seem to have given up the workplace as a battleground and embraced their identity as consumers, they pour more energies into what they consume as a battleground. Choosing how to spend their money is not enough to assert where they stand. They must also fight it out - not organise themselves as workers for more bargaining power against corporations, but get on the soapbox and assert their rights as consumers to corporations.

It remains to be seen whether this actually works. The track record seems to vary, but the trend is not looking very good. Voting with your wallet, so to speak, still seems to be the most efficient approach. But, as I mentioned elsewhere, I suppose there's also the entertainment factor. Getting on the soapbox can be fun, and for some that might be part of the consumption experience.

Companies also trawl social media now and run sentiment analysis on posts, so it's absolutely right as a consumer to "get on your soapbox", as they are measuring for that.

And I'm saying it doesn't seem to end bad practices in general. Far from that, in fact.

They are lend-lease Iowa battleships from Ben Franklin!
Does anyone here even read history??
Fun Fact: the only "Lend Lease" battleship was actually a Revenge-class Superdreadnaught, the HMS Royal Sovereign, which was loaned to the Soviet Union in May 1944 and returned to Great Britain in 1949 after the war. In Soviet service she was renamed the Arkhangelsk

I haven't seen anything anywhere to indicate that the game will let us 'loan out' Revenge unique units, though . . .
