The lack of a unique model for a unique unit from Great Britain is an embarrassment.

It's not very likely that they knew about this - and again it's unrealistic to expect this to be an issue with art ^^
The Battersea building art is bad for entirely different reasons.

They didn't have to choose this particular wonder, though. They could have chosen something else and avoided the entire problem.
Yet they wanted this one, idk just my thoughts on that issue

Times like this I wish Steam had more than Positive and Negative review choices because I’m hopelessly addicted to this one and can’t say my personal opinion of the product as a whole is negative but would want to warn others of the massive issues and to wait on purchasing for some time.
Maybe add "Mixed" as a review option instead of only positive and negative? I often have mixed feelings on games myself.

I find Battersea Power Station a rather uninspired choice to associate with the British, especially when there were so many better options. They could have gone with the Palace of Westminster/Big Ben or Buckingham Palace instead.

There will undoubtedly be a Civ 8, but this game has done serious damage to the franchise and I don't even care what they do with upcoming DLC/expansions/updates/whatever. Some people like the design choices, and that's fine. But a serious amount of people don't and add in the horrible UI, the pretty much standard opinion everyone has now that the "vanilla" Civ game is bare bones (even more so with all of the usual standard stuff that was left out of 7) and waiting on years of DLC, DLC models themselves being frustrating, etc, and this is all going to result in Civ 8 having a high amount of skepticism. A LOT of people who bought 7 blindly are absolutely not going to be doing that with 8, and I don't think those people are going to be completely replaced by new customers. They screwed up here. Considerably.

I find those more uninspired because they've been done over and over. Well, maybe not Buckingham Palace, but it's cliched IRL.

disagree. buckingham palace is one of the most visited , iconic tourism sites in the world and merits inclusion based solely off its notoriety, not to mention its considerable artistic and architecture gravitas.

I like GB and Carthage, I don't feel like I got a bad product, but it's not worth $30 and I won't be purchasing the next DLC (Rise something). I'm now firmly in the wait for major expansions, wait one year, wait for the discount camp. It's easy to be here because I have the game and am able to enjoy it. But, this inability to even ship with a unique unit model on top of all the other issues betrays something that's just not working on the production side with this game.

I'll compare to Starfield. I put many hours into that game, but at some point I just put my controller down and never played it again and have no interest in ever playing it again. it's a strange thing to explain. A lot of fun I had in Starfield was because I didn't understand how the game completely worked yet, and was doing busy work like settlement construction, leveling up, almost anticipating what I thought all these game systems would be once I fully understood them and needed to use them. At some point I realize they were never going to be anything, never lead into any kind of game experience other than what's at face value. So then I played to fill out some of the content I hadn't touched yet and it was raw completionism and by the end I was sick of the game rushing through stuff.

Civ 7 is dangerously close to that territory. The better I learn it, I fear I'll fall into the camp of these people who say "modern age has no point" and "it's too easy". I can argue against these points and explain where there's a lot of potential depth to the game. However, I'm left with the nagging suspicion that that depth will never actually be delved into. Now, unlike Starfield, Civ 7 will be easier to mod depth into, and that could genuine fix things. But I'm very skeptical about the necessary tweaks being made to vanilla for a long time if ever. What you see is what you get.

This screw up is really sad. Clearly speaks of business interests winning out over product and development. I really love the game design choices and have been having a lot of fun playing it, but this is sad, sloppy lack of care for quality software.

when you brought up starfield i felt that. such an empty waste of potential . and not a game civ wants to be associated with.

tbh, it just feels like an another unneeded hit to PR/morale. Idk who comes up with the pricing and deadlines.(cant be only 2k right?) Expansion pricing for content that is less than what you would get in an expansion is pretty greedy. Cutting corners in said dlc is even more damning.

Would of been better for us if it was delayed 1-3 months. It would of been better for them, as maybe the DLC would be finished, and the game would be in a better state. Instead it just looks like they are racing to milk people for more money.

You could argue that it would be a choice with significance, but I wouldn't describe it as inspired.

I have to disagree - though I live in London - I think those two are pretty uninspired especially Buckingham Palace - it really isn't a wondrous building at all, feel like other national trust properties and palaces in Europe are far more wonderous! Bigben/Palace of Westminster i'm sure will be a wonder eventually, plus we have the White Tower and Oxford Uni too.

Alternative modern age wonders for Britain, could have been the British Museum, but we already have the Hermitage, Crystal Palace would have been my ideal, but we already have the Worlds Fair. I liked the idea of a more industrial wonder, the Tube or Crossness pumping station would have been cool, but don't see how that could have worked from a mechanics and presentation perspective (rail station in every city?), there are various bridges (Forth or Glenfinnan Viaduct) but from a gameplay perspective placement requirements might not mean they're fun. Joddrell Bank Observatory became a heritage site recently (and funnily enough relates to HMS revenge as it uses it's turrets). Bletchley Park might have made for a pretty unique wonder and ties nicely with Ada. I like Battersea as a wonder, but it shouldn't have been a nautical themed wonder and should just have a river adjacency - could have been the Naval College, Docklands, Maunsell Forts or Bell Rock Lighthouse as a more naval focused one.

To me it's the UUs and UBs that feel a bit uninspired and the Revenge model a slap in the face.
Was expecting Lancaster Bombers (to have a niche with the Stuka and Zero) or the Black Watch/Green Jackets/Commandos or something given Dreadnoughts are a basic unit.

as far as UU go, black watch would have been my top choice. and would have fit well with GB including Scots and Scots notoriety as ferocious soldiers. I have to disagree on Buckingham as it is truly very famous and i think makes sense as a wonder but agree to disagree.

I would also point toward the Royal Pavilion as a really cool modern British wonder. It's not the most culturally relevant, but man is it distinct and pretty and I would love its inclusion just for the aesthetic. In fact, given that I am having trouble pinpointing what the World's Fair is based on, I suspect they just used the Indo-Saracenic style because it's just the coolest and represents a strong throughline from Indo-European antiquity (Maurya/Persia) to Indo-European modernity (Britain), which is about as "universally applicable" a style as you can derive, even moreso than Greco-Egyptian classicism.

Speaking of the Tube, I think a Chunnel wonder would be kind of neat for short ocean straits. Functionally no different than a bridge or maybe Pacha's Civ VI Qhapaq Nan, but then again the Bermuda is just window dressing for a warp pad yeet.

It doesn't reaaaaallly look like that, though.

The base structure was very monochromatic brick that I think contributes to the deco "carved in stone" aesthetic. By contrast, you can clearly see the wonder model just reused British city assets, which all have that grey framing/moulding on literally everything.

Battersea also has a very deco glass roof covering the entire upper structure, which is totally absent in the wonder model and replaced with crappy greenhouse-style roofs. And, in general, a lot of the additional glasswork on the wings is missing.

Granted, the Byrsa also looks like it was phoned in with reused assets, too.
It looked exactly like the image in game when it was built.

The glass roof your looking for was added later.
