Why should you care?

I am dying.

I, the Chhattrapati Rajaram am not long for this life.

Soon I shall be reborn.

But as what? A Shudra?

This cannot do.

I must survive.

I must!

If only to gain enough karma to find favor in my next life...

The doctors at the Chhattrapati's bedside were amazed at the king's quick recovery. But not as nearly amazed as his advisors were when he announced that he was going to sign a treaty with the British.

"But your majesty, the British have no interest in protecting us. They may even attack us!"

"Yes, but if we get them to sign a treaty, they will have to break it in order to attack us. By signing a treaty, we will know when they plan to march on us and will have some time to prepare when they inevitably break it."

In the end, the Terms of the treaty of Mumbai were thus. The Marathi Empire would be placed under the protection of the British. They were not to attack the British under any circumstances, and would have to assist them in their wars. In return, however, the British would join the Marathi Empire in any war against a European power.

The Marathi took the city of Kolachi, despite the Mughals desperate defense of it, and established contact with the Safavids in Persia in the same year.
