The many questions-not-worth-their-own-thread question thread XV

What are some ways in which the interdependence of nations may actually escalate the risk of armed conflict?

In a concert review it said this. What does it mean and is it a good or bad thing?

I'm not one for crowd paranoia, but I half expected someone to leap from the bleachers in a cathartic fit.

Is that a type of shampoo?

A review compares a concert to a "revival meeting." Whats this?

It's (typically) an event held at (typically) evangelical protestant churches (typically) in the United States. Fervent, highly emotional, etc.

A revival meeting refers to a gathering of evangelicals, with the meeting heavily emphasizing coming to faith in Jesus as savior. People being saved is an exciting thing at revival meetings.

Thats an interesting analogy. Certainly better than the tight-as-a-wetsuit-on-a-Sports-Illustrated-cover-girl one.

What do people in other places call smelt storms? (That's a snowstorm in the spring after the snow starts melting. I dont know why its called that)

We do not have those here in Holland. When snow starts falling and it won't stick around (due to the temperature) we call it wet snow.

Corollary: the better the revival meeting, the more orgasmic its participants

No, not sleetstorm... But a spring snowstorm. Because right now most of the snows melted. But we';ll probably get more snowstorms before summer

Is there any difference in the characteristics of the snow? Or is it just called that because its spring time?

No difference in the snow. Its called that because its spring.

ROFL, a "SMELT" storm?!? The hell?? It rains fish up in Canadia??

It doesnt rain fish... but thats literally what its called. I dont know why

I like my version better. "Today's forecast calls for mild temperatures and increasing clouds through morning, with a 60% chance of a smeltstorm in the afternoon. Area residents are urged to stay indoors to avoid copious amounts of fish falling from the sky. Back to you, Anne!"
