I see ... so my Shock bonus is substracted from his forest + fortify one ?
Quite strange but ... it brings the values to displayed ones. :)

Anyway ... where is the game now ? Still at Ardi ?
Yes, bonuses aren't always added to the unit as you'd expect but sometimes to the other unit (and they cancel out). For example a swordsman with vs. melee (but no combat) against an axeman (with no extra defensive bonuses), you'd expect it to be 6 + 25% = 7.5 vs. 7.5 = 5 + 50%, but it's really 6 vs. 6.25 = 5 + (50-25)% (i.e. the axeman has the advantage whereas you might expect it to be a fair battle).

This, however, has nothing to do with just being plain lucky. If you did inflict a bunch of damage on the spearman, it's just because you were much luckier than you should have been. A first strike chance gave you a free chance at doing some damage right off the bat, but realistically you shouldn't have inflicted too much. Civ is at least a little bit a game of chance though.
It wasn't the first archer (with 1.9% odds of winning) that did the damage, but the second (still with only 9.6% odds). There were a couple of chariots who'd probably have finished my spear anyway, but it'd have been nice if he'd managed to take out both archers. He shall be remembered. And avenged.

Onwards!

Yes - I expected to lose both archers and to mop the spearman with a chariot ... but it's better this way. :)

Damn ! And I found out this only after I played Civ4 for almost 6 years ??? :wallbash:

On other hand ... no save this morning. :(

You're f*ing joking, right? 70%, 90% and 96% chances... and I lose two (if you're wondering, the 70% and 96%). On top of my previous losses when defending to 20% and 10%, I'm beginning to think this game hates me... Mitiu's new city will survive for another couple of turns.

At least I have more units where those came from.

Sent.

Edit: If you're wondering, with those odds I had a 60% chance of winning all three battles, and over 95% chance of winning at least two. I think that gives me the right to be a bit grumpy :)

That's harsh bro. I hate losing battles at 96% odds, cause you just never seem to win with the same frequency at 4%...

Well ... just received and checked the save ... what else to say ? I'm delighted for the moment for the outcome of these battles - never expect more than to be able to knock down one of your axemans ... in order to resist enough a little bit to be able to pop-rush my first metal-based units. :P
Actually I was almost desperate when I saw you little concentration of forces but ... for the moment at least I survived !

Losing only one chariot ( which don't receive defensive bonuses anyway ) for an axeman + spearman ... is an excelent result !

Sent to Ardi again.

Just a little statistics, we have played for ~100days now (if we count 11.jan as the start) and have completed 81 turns, so thats 0.81 turns per day, or 4 turns for every 5 days (i hope thats correct, im not your maths guy really).

playing now.

We started on January 21st, which makes it almost exactly 90 days. That means we've missed a net amount of 7 days. We've obviously missed more, but we played multiple turns in a day to make up for some of them.

It's not a bad rate. Honestly, I'm pretty happy with how the turns are going by. It settled into a nice pattern quite well.

Oh, and our small world is once more plunged into the abyss of warfare.

Better. Can the Zulu break the siege in time?

So ... in Zulu-translation this means that I just lost an archer ( don't received yet the save to check ) ? :(

Alexei - did you already played the save - because I received nothing yet ...

The Sumerians, so sweetly talking peace and alliances the last 20 turns, have treacherously attacked. Let this be a warning for others!

The fate of the free world hangs in balance. Will the more powerful leader win and further assert his dominance over the world, or will the Egyptian underdog halt his progress? Only time will tell..

Interesting development in western part of our continent ! :)

Regarding the east side ... well, if we would play a game face-to-face probably Espirito would throw the board in my head after this round - because ... I won a battle at incredible ~5% odd in my favor ! :goodjob:
I should admit - it's pure insanity what's happening and I should step out from this hyper-confidence mood in which I am for the moment !

I could found no good explanation for what's happening ... probably, without noticing at the time, I stepped in a sh*t while this game-setup was underway ... :crazyeye:

This has stopped being funny. Okay it was never funny, but I could see a faintly humourous side to it. Fiereni can't ride it's luck much longer though, right?

Sent despondently.

Well ... I spot 2 more units - 1 axeman and 1 archer - heading towards it. Probably you used your spearman to kill my chariot ( the one which just killed your axeman - but this time with good odds - ~83% or something ) so this represents 3 units against 2 of mine inside the city + the super-hero archer ( who killed your axeman this turn at 5% odds  ). And who can't get inside of the city due to lack of bridges ( - well ... Construction tech is still far away :( ).
So ... we will see what's happening ... the fact that Fiereni still resist and provide Iron for my small-empire is for the moment a true miracle ! :king:

I resent the Egyptians' characterization of my offensive. They were the ones who brought their barbaric ways to our lands and forced us to give way to them. Now their time of owning our land has come to an end.
