The Most Dangerous Game - Small Pangaea FFA

Well ... seems that the lucky days of Fiereni are about to end - managed to kill just one archer ... not enough ... :(
The interesting part is that Fiereni's borders expanded when I press <END TURN> ... I'm the last player in a round ???

Sent to Ardi - let's hope that he is still at home.

Borders always expand at the end of turn. Techs also are completed at the end of the turn, not the start. As are buildings and units. The only real turn-by-turn effect that is done at the beginning of a turn is unit healing. It's interesting how these things actually matter in a PBEM, cause your borders expanding actually gives you defensive bonuses, as I'm sure mister "Converted to Judaism to get faster border pops in Darnussus" must very well know. :P

:P

I actually really can't wait for this save. What will Ardi have whipped, if anything? Will my aggressive Vultures be strong enough to take the city? The suspense is killing me!

Well it all depends on whether you've got a chariot able to re-inforce Fiereni or whether Fiereni has managed to build a defensive unit as there's finally only one chariot defending.

Those battles I lost :spear: turn out to have cost more than just one unit as they've allowed you to counter-attack successfully (e.g. if my spear at 96% had won he'd have been defending my axe on the hill which would then probably not have been destroyed by your chariot).
Plus they delayed me long enough to let Fiereni expand culturally. I always expected to take Fiereni despite the setbacks, but I'm going to be physically sick :vomit: if you manage to get a defender there.

Well ... from the begining of the second Zulu - Ottoman war the losses are something like this ( if I'm remember well and you ) :

1 city razed, 2 archers, 4 axemans, 1 spearman from your side
4 archers and 2 chariots lost from my side.

We will see what will happen next - I'm just waiting to see the save ... because I'm not remember now if I promoted or not the axeman which is 2 tile away from Fiereni ( if not ... there is a chance to save the city ) ! ;)

Well ... I didn't managed to do this, you was really lucky now - and that's partly because last turn I was so idiot to not queue in production-list a scout :wallbash: ... cheaper enough to be chopped in one round but still counting as a defensive unit.

OK - it's anyway somehow fair situation now ... use your spearman to get your prize. :(

Sent the save to Ardi.

Haven't received the save yet, so I don't know. Perhaps Ardi knows something I don't? Perhaps he's nuked my capital! *gasp*

Espirito, i guess i know how you feel now.. In addition to some other close calls, Alexi has managed to win a 21% odds victory with his spear against my fortified archer.

What surprises me more than this result, however, is Alexis decision to make that last attack at all, knowing that a) i have 4 more units in the city, b) he has no follow-up to that attack, c) theres a 80% chance that he will just throw away his spear and make my archer stronger with exp, and last but not least, d) the rules do not allow him to reload if he loses.

I'm surprised you didn't use your GG-axeman to re-inforce Fiereni and save the city.

Anyway, the massacred people of Ankara have been avenged as my rampaging spearman has destroyed Fiereni and scattered the populace after the cowardly defenders abandoned the city.

As you are surprised - I was disappointed when I realised that the damn crossing-river prevent me to do this. :(
So I choose to kill one of your units instead ... and - as long as the position of the second sperman is well known from below sentence :

Anyway, the massacred people of Ankara have been avenged as my rampaging spearman has destroyed Fiereni and scattered the populace after the cowardly defenders abandoned the city.

... I'll mop the other one to from the area - so now I'll be able to bring enough units and to re-settle the city again. :crazyeye:

Well, I made that call because yes, there will be a counterattack, because most of my vultures will get promotions and will therefore have the opportunity to heal with them and attack again. I won't lie, I was extremely lucky and was also extremely pleasantly surprised when my spearman won, but to be fair I have a large force of aggressive UU axemen with City Raider. I think a certain amount of destruction is to be expected.

And speaking of poor odds, I don't fully understand why you pre-emptively attacked my stack with that axeman. You must have had 50% odds at best, but your own stack is smaller than mine and could benefit from the defensive bonuses of the city, so for all intents and purposes your axeman was stronger inside the city than out.
