'The Mumbles'

I think putting in "The Mumbles" was a great idea.
I play a lot of war games and therefore am pretty good at geography <ponders probable reasons for so much Moderator activity ...> not because I'm smart but because all those WWII battles were fought across a big section of the globe.
Anyway,I had never heard of The Mumbles, but now I know where it is. More proof that Civilization is educational.

And gee, look at all the international goodwill this thread has engendered.

It would be nice if we could choose the next city name from the list.
It's possible to 'force' this. While founding a city, at the moment that you have the naming box on the screen: cancel it. Your settler will become available again and next time you choose to build a city it defaults to another name (assumably the next one in the list).:)
This is not true in my experience. The system always suggests the first available name on the list, so in this case would come up with the same name again.
If for example you start as the Babylonians and name your capital Ur (the second name on their list), then for the next town it would propose Babylon.
A lot of very different approaches to the naming of towns can be found in the thread Name this town.

Strange, might this be a difference between regular Civ3 and PTW?

I clearly remember while playing the Ottomans (my current game in fact) I cancelled some city because I didn't like the name and wanted to see if it would give another suggestion. Which it did. And then I went on for about 10 names to see what the next ones were (and also because I again didn't like the other name :) ) and each time I got another name.

I'll try it out again this evening to see if it was a one-time feature...

Started new game with the Romans in PTW: same result. Cancelling out Rome and then hitting the <B> key again gives the next name in the list (Vieii).

So they must have put some extra time in enhancing the city name chooser for PTW...:crazyeye:

What I described above your posts applied to vanilla, so that must be the difference then.

Wait a minuite Zeta Jones, Tom Jone, Charlote Church were born in Wales well that setles it the mumbles is going to have to be raised. Then again Hopkins (my favorite non-comic actor was born there)nah lets raise it. Seriously now the city lists are missing Belfast Edinborough Glasgow Hull Shefield.
P.s.
To the yank who said saying that the mumbles is in england is not like saying toronto is in the usa because Wales is run by the united kingdom government which is in power over Northern Island Scotland Wales England Jamaca The Falkland Islands and some other wayward former empire colonys whereas as Toronto is a Sars infected part of Canada not the usa now that may be hard for some americans to grasp but you don't rule the world.

Sadly, the most interesting part of this thread is trying to work out what was in the posts that Padma has moderated out :(

Is there an uncensored version !?

I don't even remember what I said. Did I mention I like to eat cheese, and that certain other nationalities also like cheese? Or maybe it was something else I said on another thread.

Maybe I need to set up a thread on off topic with good recipes that use cheese. Toasted cheese sandwiches are great. I don't recommend cheese whiz, especially not on French Fries. There are a lot of French cheese you can't buy leagally in the US because they are made with unpasturised milk. I believe I read somewhere that you can buy some countries cheese if it is made with unpastureized milk, if it is aged for a certain period, like 90 days. But not French cheese even if aged 90 days. This seems like discrimination to me.

Have you noticed that the poets have been misteriously silent on the subject of cheese?

There are plenty of 'odd' names in Civ3.

Like 'Not Constantinople', and of course, 'Thunderfall' :D
